Ⅰ.阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共20分)
(2025·保定高三模拟)
Josefa Marin went to New York from Mexico in 1987,supporting her daughter back home with the $140 a week she earned at a sweater factory. With that small income, she had to collect recyclables, trading in cans for five cents each.
When the sweater factory closed down in the late 2000s,she became a full time recycler, picking up cans and bottles to make ends meet.
Marin’s story is not unique.Millions around the world make a living from picking through waste and reselling it.They play a vital role in keeping waste manageable. In New York City, the administrative department collects only about 28 percent of the cans that could be recycled.Rubbish collectors keep millions of additional recyclables out of landfills every year.
Yet collectors are ruled out by government policies.Supreme Court of the United States in 1988 stated that household garbage is public property once it’s on streets. That enables the police to search rubbish for evidence, but that protection hasn’t always been extended to recyclers. And in places like New York City, which is testing city owned locked containers to hide garbage from rats, the containers are made clearly inaccessible to collectors.
“There’s value in the waste, and we feel that value should belong to the people, not the city or the corporations,” says Ryan Castalia, director of a nonprofit recycling and community center in Brooklyn.
Recognized or not, waste pickers have long been treated with disrespect.Marin recalls an occasion when someone living next to a building where she was collecting cans threw water at her.“Just because I recycle,it doesn’t mean I am less of a person than anyone else,” she says.
Some governments are starting to realize that protecting the environment and humanity go hand in hand. The United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, for example, calls for an end to poverty and all the risks it brings.
1.What is the author’s purpose of telling about Marin
To highlight waste collectors’ role. To reflect laid off workers’ hardship.
To praise her devotion to her daughter. To show the seriousness of unemployment.
2.How does the author show the importance of waste pickers’ work
By contrasting. By citing references.
By giving definitions. By cause effect analysis.
3.What would Marin agree with
Business is business. No job is noble or humble.
The early bird catches the worm. One good turn deserves another.
4.Which of the following is the best title for the text
How can we end poverty Who owns our garbage
Who takes blame for waste How should we recycle rubbish

Student loan debt has become a worldwide problem. In America, the country’s overall student debt reached a record of $1.6 trillion in 2019. The average person with student loan debt owed between$20,000 and $25,000. A recent Japanese government report says it has been lending over $9 billion yearly to students since 2010. Similar conditions exist in Africa and South America.
Several factors account for high student loan debt. One is that employers everywhere have increased their demands for skilled workers, making higher education a requirement for many jobs. The students, however, after graduation, often find that their country’s economy is not strong enough to support their financial needs, so their ability to pay back the loan becomes a problem.
To solve the problem, many countries are seeking their ways.Australia has developed a system where students do not have to pay anything back until they are earning at least $40,000 a year.In America, several candidates running for president in the 2020 election have offered more extreme solutions that all or at least some of these loans will be forgiven.
Some professors in several universities recently studied what the effects of debt forgiveness might be.They found that, overall, sudden debt relief greatly improved the borrowers’ lives. Not only did they have more money, but they were more likely to move to a new area and seek better paying work.
Yet the professors’ research doesn’t include what might happen to financial institutions or the overall economy if debts were totally forgiven. It only looks at how debt forgiveness would help the borrowers. The professors warn of some other possible negative effects. If a borrower knew that if he ran into any trouble he would be saved because he could get the debt relief, then he might actually become more reckless (无所顾忌的) with his borrowing in the future.
No matter what, the professors agree that if countries do decide to approve some student debt relief, the neediest students should be helped first.
5.How does the author introduce the problem of student loan debt
By making a comparison. By making classifications.
By presenting some statistics. By setting down general rules.
6.What can we learn about student loan debt relief
It will surely provide some benefits for borrowers.
It has already been carried out in the United States.
It aims to encourage more students to borrow money.
It will prevent a person from landing a well paying job.
7.What is the professors’ attitude to debt forgiveness
Uncaring. Positive.
Disapproving. Cautious.
8.What’s the main idea of the text
Student loan debt is the most serious problem worldwide.
Growing global student loan debt fuels the search for solutions.
Student loan debt tends to pull the needy out of trouble.
People hold different opinions on debt forgiveness.

Human history is full of horse stories like guiding cowboys home on foggy nights and taking wounded soldiers through battle zones.Such sensible and highly trained horses made Eakta Jain,a computer scientist and roboticist, think of robots.“A horse that can take a rider home on its own would be the highest level of autonomy,” Jain says.“You trust them with your life.”She was drawn to learning how such relationships form and if it could help improve human robot interactions.
For a year,Jain engaged herself in the horse world. She watched classes in horse training, and she also talked with students, instructors, trainers and horse owners.Along the way,Jain even learned to ride.
Horses learn signals from their trainers on how to comfortably interact with people.People, too, must learn their part.Riders must learn what a horse wants or how it feels based on its behavior, and what signals to use to direct horses to perform in desired ways.Jain found some similarities, here,to working with robots.People must learn how to direct robots to do specific tasks. They also must learn what to do when robots don’t perform as planned. The goal is to program robots that will respond predictably to inputs from people. But like horses, autonomous robots also should be able to respond on their own as conditions change. For example,a self driving car must stop to avoid hitting something, even if some human mistakenly tells it to keep going.
Trainers and riders work with horses to build respect.Horses show that respect by matching their pace to a human or giving someone who is leading them a safe degree of personal space.Trainers begin their work with a horse by getting them to show signs of respect in basic interactions,Jain says.Later, trainers will develop more complex interactions.Gradually,a horse’s respect can grow into trust.
But that trust is not given. And there may be a similar limitation with robots. What would it mean for robots and people to respect and trust each other For now,she adds, this is largely uncharted territory. But she’s looking to build a path.
5.What drew Eakta Jain’s attention to horses
Horses’ amazing performance. Long history of horse training.
Horse human interdependence. Her horse riding experience.
6.What are the robots of the highest autonomy designed to do
To act like real horses. To show respect for humans.
To follow instructions from humans. To make independent and sensible decisions.
7.What will Jain’s future research most probably focus on
The limitations of robots. Trust between robots and humans.
The path toward higher robot efficiency. Similarities between horses and robots.
8.What can be a suitable title for the text
History of Human Horse Relationship
Secrets of Human Animal Interactions
The Role of Trust in Human Robot Partnerships
Horses as the Inspiration for Autonomous Robots

An innovative creation will help transform treating diseases.Scientists at Tufts University and Harvard University’s Wyss Institute developed tiny biological robots “Anthrobots” from human cells. These Anthrobots possess the astonishing ability to move across surfaces and have exhibited a remarkable healing (治愈) effect by stimulating neuron (神经元) growth in damaged lab dish regions. This discovery serves as a crucial stepping stone toward the researchers’ vision of employing biological robots as innovative tools for healing, and disease treatment.
This breakthrough originates from earlier research conducted by Michael Levin,Professor of Biology at Tufts University School of Arts & Sciences, and Josh Bongard at the University of Vermont. They once created biological robots called Xenobots from frog cells, capable of various functions including self copying, for a limited number of cycles. However,it was unclear if biological robots could be formed using cells from other species.
In their latest study,Levin and Tufts PhD student Gizem Gumuskaya discovered that Anthrobots can indeed be crafted from adult human cells, with capabilities outperforming those observed in Xenobots.
Anthrobots showed the ability to move across a surface covered in human neurons grown in a lab dish, facilitating new growth to fill gaps caused by cell layer damage.
“It is extremely interesting and completely unexpected that normal patients’ cells, without changing their DNA,can move on their own and encourage neuron growth across a region of damage. We’re now looking at how the healing mechanism works, and asking what else these constructs can do,” says Levin.
One of the main advantages of using human cells lies in constructing biological robots from a patient’s cells to perform healing tasks without leading to immune (免疫的) responses. These Anthrobots naturally break down after a few weeks and can be easily absorbed into the body once their function is complete.
Anthrobots can only survive under specific laboratory conditions, posing no risk of exposure or unintended spread outside the controlled environment. They do not reproduce, have no genetic changes, and therefore carry no risk of developing beyond safety measures.
9.What do Anthrobots do in healing patients
Replace human cells. Facilitate neuron growth.
Create new human cells. Move across tissue surfaces.
10.What does the underlined word “crafted” in paragraph 3 mean
Made. Divided. Copied. Designed.
11.What is one of the main advantages of Anthrobots
They can be easily created from patients’ cells.
They can be used in many controlled environments.
They can avoid causing immune responses.
They can have genetic changes when necessary.
12.Which magazine is the text most probably taken from
Advanced Science. Sportsnet Magazine.

THIS STREET IS OPEN FOR PLAY
Concerned about outdoor play in crowded cities Start a play street—a community event where neighbors close their road to traffic, creating a safe space for children to play. This initiative allows kids and adults to explore, create and socialize, which, undoubtedly, will bring the bonds between neighbors to a new height.
Compared to the structured play with strict rules and fixed procedures,a play street allows children to lead, establish rules and get involved in an open ended activity without specific instructions, methods or goals.
Getting Started:
1.Host a meeting to discuss benefits and encourage involvement.Choose an event date and assign tasks to the neighbors.
2.Reach out to the city council for necessary permits to close the road.Ignoring this will lead to the cancellation of the whole plan.
3.Use posters, flyers, and social media to spread the word.Use these promotion means to inform residents of the date, time and activities planned for the play street.
4.Set up barriers for safety, provide equipment and encourage neighbors’ participation.
What to Expect:
·Game Areas:A variety of play equipment tailored for kids, such as jump ropes, balls, chalk for drawing, hula hoops and other outdoor games.
·Swapping Corner:A place where moms can bring unwanted items such as kitchenware, gardening tools or other household goods to exchange with each other.
·Arts and Crafts Seating: Arts and crafts seating with materials like paper, markers, crayons, paints and brushes.Children are encouraged to get creative and express themselves through art.
·Snack and Refreshment Station:Light refreshments like water, juice, fruit and healthy snacks to keep mixed age participants energized.A potluck to share homemade treats and recipes.

I was the only kid in college with a reason to go to the mailbox, because my mother never believed in email,or cell phones in general.I was literally waiting by the mailbox to get a letter with a warmest comfort from her.
So when I moved to New York and got depressed,I did the only thing I could think of.I wrote those same kinds of letters like my mother for strangers, and tucked them all over the city: in cafes,in libraries, and even in the subway.I blogged about those letters and promised if asked for a handwritten letter,I would write one.
Overnight,my inbox became this harbor of heartbreak—a single mother in Sacramento,a girl being bullied in Kansas,a 22 year old immigrant, all asking me to write them and give them a reason to wait by the mailbox. And this is how I initiated the act The World Needs More Love Letters.
Today I run a global organization fueled by those trips to the mailbox. It is a miracle. But the thing about these letters is that most of them have been written by people brought up in a paperless world where some best conversations happen on a screen. We have learned to record our pain onto social media, and we speak swiftly on the Internet.
Therefore,I’ve been carrying this mail crate (大木箱) with me these days, which is a magical icebreaker. So I get to tell total strangers about a woman whose husband was traumatized (受精神创伤的) from war,and how she left love letters throughout the house saying,“Come back to me.” And a man,who had decided to take his life, slept safely with a stack of letters just beneath his pillow, handwritten by strangers who were there for him.
These stories convince me that letter writing will never need to be about efficiency, because it is an art now.All of it is the signing and the scripting and the mailing.
4.Why did the author share her experience in college
To show her care for her family. To convey her love for writing letters.
To express her feelings attached to letters. To prove her consistency in writing letters.
5.What caused the author to launch the act
She advocated the paperless lifestyle.
She intended to provide professional aid.
She tried to improve her communication skills.
She aimed to give emotional support with letters.
6.Why does the author call the mail crate“a magical icebreaker”
It cures people of mental diseases. It serves as a conversation starter.
It has magic power to melt ice. It empowers people to be brave.
7.What is the best title for the passage
Family Letters Are Priceless Love for Writing Never Declines
World Needs More Love Letters Handwritten Letters Improve Efficiency

While climbing the Great Wall is a once in a lifetime dream for many,Jim Spear has taken it a step further, spending the last 18 years as a villager residing beneath this ancient wonder.
“Never did I dream I would have the chance to visit the Great Wall, let alone live under it,” said 68 year old Spear,a self taught architect from the United States.
Spear’s interest in China began during his college days.It deepened when he met Tang,a Chinese girl,in 1980,and they got married two years later. In 1986,he decided to drop out of his doctoral studies in Chinese politics at the University of California and moved to China “to get to the heart of things”.“I realized that if I became a scholar of China, based overseas,I wouldn’t be able to experience what was happening in China,” Spear said.
In 1995,the couple secured a long term rent of a traditional village farmhouse in Mutianyu and decided to make it their full time home ten years later.Shortly after possessing full time village life,he rented an abandoned schoolhouse and transformed it into a restaurant and art glass factory for a sustainable tourism business. He also turned a former factory into a hotel and helped renovate (翻新) over 20 households into restaurants.Besides,he explored other ways to support those residents in rural areas.“I want to do something for them,” Spear said.
Spear’s designs reflect his natural talent for fusing (使融合) traditional and modern elements, adopting the Great Wall style. However,Spear emphasized his approach involves creating designs and views “that echo (映现) the Great Wall, not copy it”.In 2014,Spear received the Great Wall Friendship Award from the Beijing government.
Talking about the future,Spear sees abundant possibilities in China, driven by significant domestic demand and a growing emphasis on preserving historic structures.
8.What do we know about Spear from the first two paragraphs

He came to China when he was 18.

They have received a world wide prize. They connect the past with the present.

Super communicators are people who are consistently able to create real connections with others just by listening and talking. The following are four habits of super communicators.
They know what kind of conversation they’re having.Super communicators are usually able to respond accordingly. If you’re having a practical conversation, your friend might ask you to help make hard decisions. 1 If your friend is just expressing her or his feelings, you just need to be a good listener.
They prove they’re listening. There are plenty of ways to appear like you’re listening, like making eye contact or nodding. To do that, experts suggest a technique called “cycles for understanding”.Ask a question and listen to the response.Repeat what they just told you.Ask your conversation partner if you got what they said correct. 2 .
They ask a lot of the right questions.Research shows that highly effective communicators tend to ask 10 to 20 times as many questions as everyone else. They may simply be follow up questions like“What happened next ” Super communicators also ask questions that get people to open up. 3 They ask about people’s values or experiences and create an opportunity for emotional connections.
4 The goal of a discussion isn’t to impress someone, convince someone or wait for their turn to speak. It’s to genuinely comprehend someone else’s point of view and share their own views accordingly. The right response creates an atmosphere of trust and openness that both parties can benefit from. 5
