Shortly after Gustav Klimt, a renowned Austrian symbolist painter, died in 1918, a photograph was taken in the artist’s studio, It shows two paintings, each displayed on an easel: Lady with Fan and the unfinished work The Bride.
Lady with Fan was the last painting Klimt worked on during the year 1917. While most of his portraits paint society ladies, Klimt probably chose an unknown model here. In the appealing presentation of this unidentified woman, probably a dancer, she appears self-confident and assured. With her head held high, her shoulders exposed, and her bare breast covered by a fan, she gazes out beyond the viewer.
Klimt began studying East-Asian art as early as the 1890s. Initially, he was primarily interested in Japanese art, but in later years turned to Chinese, Korean, Persian, or Indian creative styles. Klimt adopted not only decorative elements from the art of these countries but also compositional aspects. He studied typical color schemes, for example, and transferred them into his paintings.
Lady with Fan was especially influenced by Chinese and Japanese art. Wrapped in a Chinese robe, the lady hides behind a decorated fan. The yellow wallpaper in the
background features several characteristic patterns that are symbols of good fortune in East-Asian art: the Chinese phoenix (fenghuang), a crane, and the lotus flower. Another reference to Japanese painting is the lady with a fan herself: bijin-ga, Japanese woodblock portraits of beautiful celebrities.
Like Schiele, Kokoschka, and other artists from his circle, Klimt was a member of the Vienna Institute for Cultural Research. Founded in 1915,the institution advocated a peaceful, equal world culture and rejected the idea of the cultural. superiority of the West, a concept widespread at the time. Klimt’s paintings convey his belief: European and Asian pictorial traditions are brought together in equal measure to form a harmonious symbiosis(共生).
24. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A. Details of Lady with Fan. B. Appearance of the painter.
C. Recommendation of a model. D. Comparison of two styles.
25. What can we infer about Gustav Klimt according to the passage
A. Lady with Fan was his greatest work.
B. He showed little interest in western art.
C. He was familiar with East-Asian cultural elements.
D. He applied various techniques of western art to all his works.
26. What message do Gustav Klimt’s paintings convey
A. Promoting modern art. B. Protecting western cultures.
C. Strengthening social bonds. D. Appealing for culture equality.
27. Where is this passage most likely from
A. An art journal. B. A science magazine. C. A news report. D. A travel guide.

Heidi Tai, co-founder of Tangaroa Blue Foundation , an organization committed to beach cleaning , was puzzled when she and her teammates started finding strange
tire shaped capsules washed ashore along the Cape York coast, near Australia’s northeastern tip. But Tait eventually connected with Satlink- a Spanish satellite communications company. Satlink’s CPS-enabled buoys(浮标), the ones the beach cleaners Kept finding, help commercial fishers track their nets, lines etc. Tait had a brainwave that would see the buoys not just recycled but reused.
For more than a decade, boat crews working farther west, in Australia’s Gulf of Carpentaria, had been telling Tait about how abandoned fishing nets were circling the gulf, hurting sea creatures. These so-called ghost(幽灵)nets had either broken free from commercial fishing boats and gotten lost, or were cut loose by fishers after getting caught on rocks. Weighing a few tonnes each, the nets that boat crews had chanced upon in the gulf were often too big for them to pull out of the water. They’d typically report the finds to the authorities, but by the time anyone with an appropriately equipped boat could head out to get one, the mass of messy rope had often gone from sight.
However, once one of the GPS-enabled buoys is attached, it sends its location every few hours to a website, which lets Tangaroa Blue Foundation monitor the nets’ movements and warns the organization of danger. So far, the reused GPS trackers have helped Tangaroa Blue Foundation recover three ghost nets from Australian waters.
Tangaroa Blue Foundation’s idea to track ghost nets isn’t entirely new; researchers with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation(CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency suggested it a decade ago. Taking the idea on board, the authorities tried using battery-powered trackers to monitor a few ghost nets. Tangaroa Blue Foundation’s approach differs in that its recycled buoys are solar-powered and require less upkeep.
28. What were the tire-shaped capsules originally used for
A. Removing beach waste. B. Recycling vehicle tires.
C. Locating fishing equipment. D. Strengthening satellite signals.
29. What does the author intend to do in paragrap2
A. Illustrate a future possibility. B. Describe a technical process.
C. Present a practical solution. D Frame a problem context.
30. How do Tangaroa Blue Foundation’s buoys outperform(胜过)earlier trackers
A. They need less maintenance. B. They monitor broader regions.
C. They receive government funding. D. They provide precise tracking data.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. Turning Waste into Treasure: A Solution to Ghost Nets
B. Fighting Threats: The Hidden Harm of Ghost Nets
C. Financing Change: Innovative Ocean Cleanup Plans
D. Protecting Seas from Waste: An Activist of Conservation
D
If you ever feel that the world is against you, you are not alone. We all have a tendency to assume that when anything goes wrong, the fault lies in some great intrigue (诡计)against us. If a co-worker fails to meet the deadline, he must be trying to beat you to a promotion. When Wi-Fi in a coffee shop is not working, the staff must
be lying about having it just to attract you in.
But the fact is that the simple conclusions, which we tend to jump to, are barely
true. Maybe your coworker thought today was Tuesday, not Wednesday. Maybe the Wi-Fi just went wrong. This is where Hanlon’s razor(剃须刀) works - a useful mental model that one should never consider what can be fully explained by neglect(疏忽)as doing harm on purpose.
Applying Hanlon’s razor, a helpful tool for rapid decision-making and comprehension, in our daily lives makes us less judgmental, and improves our reasoning skills. Meanwhile, Hanlon’s razor allows us to have more empathy(同感)and teaches us not to assume the worst intention in the actions of others, the value of which is most reflected in relationships, business matters, and personal happiness.
We all lead complex lives where things are constantly going wrong. When this occurs, a common response is to blame the nearest person and assume they have bad intention. When someone messes up around us we forget how many times we, too, have done the same. Instead, the perpetrator becomes a source of intense annoyance.
To assume intention in such a situation is likely to worsen the problem. None of us can ever know what someone else wants. Inability or neglect is far more likely to be the genuine cause than the desire to hurt. When a situation annoys us, it can be valuable to consider if those emotions are necessary. Often, the best way to react to other people causing us problems is by seeking to communicate with them, not to dismiss them. In this way, we can avoid a repeat of the same situation.
32. What can we learn about Hanlon’s razor
A. It is a way to solve colleagues problems. B. It avoids taking neglect as intentional harm
C. It is a device for restoring Wi-Fi connection D. It identifies who is responsible for mistakes.
33. What do we usually do when things fail
A. We turn to trustworthy persons. B. We change current situations.
C. We deal with negative emotions. D. We misjudge others’ intention.
34. What does the underlined “the perpetrator” in paragraph 4 refer to
A. The mind reader. B. The error maker C. The problem solver. D. The event planner.
35. What’s suggested when others cause problems
A. Losing temper with them. B. Putting them on the spot.
C. Exchanging ideas with them. D. Turning a blind eye to them.

Teaching English language learners (ELL) presents challenges, especially in helping students build academic skills and adjust to a new environment. 36 This approach encourages self-expression, supports teamwork and helps them connect personally to the learning process.
The unit can begin by engaging students in a discussion about gardening. Display tools such as pots, soil, watering cans, and trowels. Let students handle the tools and ask questions about their purpose. 37 This allows students to relate personally to the topic, as many have some connection to gardening, whether through family or favorite plants.
38 Ensure that each student has the materials they need. Repurpose household items if necessary. Students can be divided into groups, where they can support one another as they care for their plants. Conversation topics such as “Why do
plants ” or “What do plants need to grow ” can be used to guide discussions within the groups.
As the plants grow, it’s important to teach students about the plant life cycle. Remind them that growth may not always be visible immediately, but changes are happening beneath the soil. 39 Students can measure their plants, make observations, and reflect on. their experiences on their journals. Additionally, they could research plants from their home countries and learn about their cultural significance.
In the final stages of the unit, students can plant their plants in the school garden. 40 This marks the plants’ growth and the students’ development, both individually and as part of a larger community.
Incorporating gardening into the classroom not only teaches students about plants but also helps with language development, understanding others, and a sense of community.
A. Invite them to share their experiences with gardening.
B. A useful way to address these challenges is through a gardening unit.
C. Tracking plant growth through a journal is an essential part of this unit.
D. Alternatively, they can choose to share them with others in the community.
E. Subscribing to journals related to gardening can deepen students’ understanding of it.
F. To support language development, the approach to translanguaging can be introduced.
G. Once students are familiar with gardening tools and vocabulary, they can start planting.

It took a day’s drive, but distance was beside the point. I always enjoyed long journeys in my father’s car with my family. However, things went different that time. We were moving to a new town, not for any tourist destination, but to settle down, for my father had a new job there. My mother, sitting on the passenger seat in the front, was talking with my father. She looked excite for the coming new life. But I was down, feeling nervous about starting a new school life. Entering a new school meant adapting to a completely different environment and meeting new classmates and teachers. which I was not good at.
On my first day at the new school, I felt lost and out of place. The students already knew each other well, and they chatted happily during breaks. I missed my old friends terribly and wished I could go back to my old school. Feeling lonely, I often spent time alone during breaks and after classes, reading books in the library or drawing pictures in the art room. I missed the good days I had with my old friends and longed for that sense of belonging.
As the days went by, I still found it hard to fit in. I was shy and found it difficult to strike up conversations with my classmates. Some of the kids in my class noticed my discomfort and tried to be friendly, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling of being an outsider. I only had words with my desk mate, Alex, when necessary. Things took a turn for the worse when I knocked off Alex’s water bottle by accident, although I picked up the bottle immediately and apologized to him. He got mad at me and seemed not to forgive me. Soon i found we were avoiding each other.

第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (满分15分)
Embracing Traditions, Shaping the Future
Traditional Chinese culture connects who we were with who we are becoming. Among all the traditions, the Spring Festival, which is the most important festival in China, has always held a special place in my heart. The Spring Festival is a time when families gather together.
Today, the Spring Festival still plays a vital role. It reminds us of the importance of family, no matter how busy we are. Moreover, it has become a window through which the world learns about China. What’s more, the traditions during the festival, such as making dumplings, teach us patience and creativity. By celebrating it, we not only keep our traditions alive but also show our pride in Chinese culture.
第二节(满分25分)
However, I was assigned to pair up with Alex to design a poster. Reluctantly (不情愿地), we started working together. I was worried that working with Alex would be very difficult due to our previous relationship. But to my surprise, as the work progressed, we found that we shared many common interests. We put a lot of efforts into (投入) the drawings and texts, and finally we completed a quite outstanding poster. Alex seemed to forgive me. He appreciated my efforts and began to care about my feelings. The teacher highly praised our work and our classmates were amazed at the picture on the poster.
Alex proudly introduced that the fantastic picture was drawn by me. I smiled shyly but happily as my classmates crowned me and gave me a thumbs-up (给我点赞). Slowly but surely, I started feeling more comfortable in my new school. I made new friends, including Alex, and began to participate in activities in and after classes. By the end of the school year, I had fully adapted to the new environment. Moving to a new town was not only challenging, but it also opened up a world of opportunities and new experiences for me.

M: I agree. (15) We can start from the northwest corner of the country and end at the border between America and Mexico. Plus, we can rent a motorhome. (16) Our bed will be just above the driver’s seat, so we can save a lot on hotels and have a very flexible trip.
W: Hmm... We discussed that before, dear. I thought we both agreed not to rent a motorhome. (16)
M: But I really want to try it. Can we consider it again (16)
W: Well, let’s see... (16)

The Silk Road(44 3WZI) was an ancient network of trade routes connecting China with the West. Beginning in the ancient Chinese capitals of Chang’an and Luoyang, the routes stretched over 4000 miles to the Mediterranean Sea(It Fi). The most western point was in Antioch, one of the four great cities of the Roman Empire. Chinese silk, tea, china and later, world-changing inventions such as paper and gunpowder, were exported to the west. In return, western nations traded goods such as wool, glass, honey, wine, gold, and China’s most prized import-horses. (18) As the Roman Empire gradually lost power in Asia, the route became dangerous to travel on. However, trade improved again during the 13th and 14th centuries. (19) The Silk Road was not just used for trading, but to share ideas and beliefs. In all, the route was in use for more than 1500 years, ending in 1453, when the Ottoman Empire (奥斯曼帝国) closed off western trade. (20) However, parts of the Silk Road still exist today. It also inspired modern China’s Belt and Road Initiative (—Hi—F).
