Emotional intelligence is highly important in a teen's development. There is considerable evidence pointing to its positive role in helping students deal with stress, develop relationships, and handle the transitions(过渡) facing them.
Emotional intelligence helps us manage negative emotions and our behavior in response to them. So, does it impact on how teens and students perform academically Some research does, in fact, suggest a relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement. In one study of education students at university, self-emotion appraisal(评价) and understanding of emotion were revealed to have positive significant linkages with their academic performance on assessments. Later studies support this finding, with Sanchez-Ruiz and his colleagues finding that emotional intelligence predicts academic performance better than established personality and cognitive(认知的) ability for Cyprus university students.
But what about teens specifically Interestingly, there is also cogent evidence to suggest that teens with high EQs are better able to make the transition from high school to higher education. Results of a study of 1,426 first-year students find significantly higher interpersonal, stress management, and adaptability skills among students who are academically successful in entering university. The authors' conclusion is that emotional intelligence has a large impact on students' ability to deal with challenges such as developing new relationships and learning to live more independently, among other factors.
It is worth noting that while the above studies do provide evidence for some benefits of emotional intelligence skills for students, they don't necessarily indicate an academic consensus(共识). As with most areas in the field, much room for future research remains. So interpersonal and emotional management skills may play a key part in helping students better handle the challenging aspects of academic life.

B.More research is needed for emotional intelligence.
C.Emotional intelligence equals academic performance.
D.Interpersonal management counts in school examinations.
27. What's the suitable title for the text
A.We Should Develop Our Emotional Intelligence

Levtzow volunteers as chairwoman of the Hunger Ministry of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Westlake, Ohio.
Being the chairwoman includes organizing food drives, finding and organizing volunteers, known as “Hunger Warriors”, gathering donations(捐赠), and raising money. While the group does not track the amount of food donated, Levtzow guesses that the “Hunger Warriors” together raise an additional $48,000 to $60,000 per year for hunger organizations. Over the years, the Hunger Ministry of Saint Paul Lutheran Church has raised more than $1.5 million.
I recently spoke to Levtzow about her experience as a lead volunteer. She has held her present volunteer position for the past 26 years.
“We don't have as many people,” she said. “Right now, I need drivers.” Drivers pick up local bread donations every morning from stores and local restaurants. They also deliver food and money to the centers that serve people in need.
Levtzow said that her group can always use a little more help than they have. They contribute food, money, and other donations to 24 groups. Their greatest one is with Redeemer Crisis Center in Cleveland.
Helping others was a part of everyday life for Levtzow when she was growing up. Her mother was a director of nursing at a nursing home near the family's home. Levtzow and her brother, John, volunteered there as teens. “Volunteering,” Levtzow said, “was just a normal part of life.” Levtzow's family continues to volunteer. Her brother helps her with the Hunger Ministry. Even the family dog, Chico, attends events and is known as “the Hunger Dog”.
Levtzow plans to continue giving back for as long as she can. She encourages people of all ages to volunteer in whatever way they can. “The best advice I have is that for every friend you make, you should try and see what you can do to help them,” Levtzow said.
Levtzow hopes that the younger generation will continue her work. “The biggest challenge is keeping it going,” she said.
28.What do the figures in Paragraph 2 show
A.The cost of organizing food drives.
B.The worth of the donated food.
C.The awards the “Hunger Warriors” got.
D.The amount of money collected.
29.What problem does Levtzow face now
A.She is short of hands.
B.She needs food donations.
C.She is too old to be the chairwoman.
D.She has difficulty balancing work and life.
30.Why does the author mention Levtzow's family in Paragraph 6
A.To introduce a few more hunger organizations.
B.To talk about the history of a nursing home.
C.To add some information about Levtzow.
D.To introduce a new topic for discussion.
31.What is Levtzow probably worried about
A.So many people are still in trouble.
B.Her work might stop in the future.
C.Her present work is too heavy.

Looking back is a wonderful thing. It allows you to see what has led you here and, hopefully, how society has changed and improved.
Take my career goal for instance. First, I wanted, in 1999, to be a “farmer”, soon a real estate agent, then a driving instructor and somewhere along the way, a footballer.
I had grown up in a football-loving family. I remember the exact moment when I said, “I'm sad that I can't be a footballer.” while watching the game with Dad as a pre-teen. He asked why. “Because I'm not a boy.” He immediately responded, “You can, if you want to.” “Yeah, I suppose so,” I sighed, “but no one watches women's football.”
Looking back, I can see exactly why I felt like that. At school, there was an unwritten rule that sports like hockey and netball were “girl” sports and rugby and football were for boys. I'd never seen a women's football match on TV. You see, you can't be what you can't see, and lack of representation leads to, at best, misunderstanding, and at worst, fear and negative opinions.
Today, the Lionesses will take on Scotland women's football team in the World Cup, and people across the world will tune in—over 950,000 tickets have been sold so far. But, although women's football is one of FIFA's best investments—with a pound for pound return, the majority of female players are earning under a fair wage. Some argue that's because viewing statistics are lower than those of men's, but the rise in support shows the demand is there. Hopefully, more investment will push female football forward.
Today, I'll be cheering on the Lionesses, because it'll mean female footballers with aptitude being broadcast into millions of homes and maybe, just maybe, a little girl believing that she can also be a Lioness one day.
32.Which of the following best describes the author's career goals
A.Realistic. B.Changeable.
C.Consistent. D.Long-sought.
33.Why didn't the author believe she could be a footballer
A.She was not talented enough.
B.People lost faith in women's football.
C.Girls were forbidden to play football.
D.She had no example to follow.
34.What can we know about women's football from Paragraph 5
A.It's better paid than men's.
B.It is increasingly popular.
C.It has no market demand.
D.It is not profitable.
35.What does the text mainly want to tell us
A.Society advances with time.
B.Women deserve equal rights.
C.Each goal is worth pursuing.
D.Hard work always pays off.

Unlike the IQ, emotional intelligence is something we can develop with practice and time. 36 . Here are some ways to improve emotional intelligence.
Pay attention to your own feelings
One of the first steps in improving your EQ is to pay attention to your body language. Pause and pay attention to your body language when you experience different emotions. 37 A lot of people will clench their fists, tighten their breathing, and tense their shoulders. Release the tension consciously and take control of your breathing.
Also, consider writing down your feelings in a journal. 38 , but can help you understand more details about how you come to feel a certain way.
Empathize
Pause before reacting and put yourself into the other person's place. How would you feel in his or her position 39 Understanding others is a quick way to release tension. It helps diffuse(缓解) many situations while also making us better negotiators.
Active listening
40 . Active listening is a deliberate attempt to not only hear what someone is saying, but understand it. This sounds simple enough, but many people will nod to give the impression of listening, but will actually just be waiting to reply—or ignore the other person altogether. Those with low EQs will impulsively start talking about themselves every time they get chances, no matter what the topic is. For active listening, try to build a conversation, which can promote mutual understanding.
A.It's not only a good release
B.It will make a big difference
C.How should you deal with such situations
D.Here's one skill that many people can improve
E.What could be a possible reason for their behavior
F.It's a skill that will pay off many times in our lives
G.What do you instinctively do when you get bad news

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In 1989, fresh from high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited choices: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn't interested in engineering, so that I was left with medicine or business. I couldn't decide.
My uncle suggested that I do a work placement(实习工作) to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a good idea.
I was accepted by a foreign bank in Karachi for a one-month placement. I got the feel of how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easy-going work surroundings.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn't have been more different. The hospital had a stressful environment. The days started early (at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement, but the studying and training were difficult. It seemed that the business choice was going to win out.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through(穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus.

The next day, when I went to the hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Dear Sir,
Learning that 10 British students are coming to our school to learn Chinese calligraphy this summer, I am writing to apply to be a volunteer.
As a Senior 2 student, I am outgoing and have a great sense of humor, which gains me a lot of popularity with my classmates. Besides, I am fluent in English and won first prize in the English Speech Contest held in our school last term. Last but not least, it is 10 years since I picked up Chinese calligraphy and I think I do well in it.
Hopefully, you can take my application into consideration and I am sure I won't let you down.
Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. He hit the road with the face down and rolled over. He lay still in the middle of the road as the bus sped away. None of the cars behind stopped. Thinking that he could die in a matter of minutes, I stopped my car and carefully examined the boy. With the help of some passers-by, I lifted the unconscious boy into the car and raced back to the hospital. Then his family was contacted, and he was wheeled into emergency surgery. I drove home, exhausted but happy.
The next day, when I went to the hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. What a feeling it was to help save the life of another person! I spent the rest of the day in a good mood. Driving home in the evening, I decided on my career path. Two months of placements could not do what 30 minutes' help with an accident victim had done for me. This experience taught me that at times, the decisions are made for you—and that whatever happens is always for the best.
