When Yuan Longping was young, he witnessed the rough reality of farmers frequently suffering from poor harvests and even facing severe food shortages. Through his firm determination and painstaking efforts, he overcame a series of technical difficulties and successfully developed the first hybrid rice that could be used for large-scale farming. This achievement was a turning point, as it not only solved the food problem in China but also brought hope to people around the world suffering from hunger, enabling farmers to significantly increase their rice output.
Today, it is estimated that approximately 60 percent of the rice consumed in China comes from Yuan’s hybrid rice. His innovation has not only ensured food security in China but also has a far-reaching impact globally. The more data are gathered, the easier it is to predict who we are, what we like, where we live, whom we might vote for, how much money we might have, and what we might like to buy with it.
Once collected, our information ricochets around a complex ad-tech ecosystem — springing rapidly between computers, automated processes, and ad companies like a pinball (弹球游戏) in a machine made up of thousands of companies that offer to analyze it and deliver highly targeted ads based on it.

BEIJING — China’s independently-developed AG600 large amphibious (水陆两用的) aircraft has entered a new stage of low-rate initial mass production and final assembly (装配), according to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China（AVIC）on Tuesday.
The large part of the aircraft nose for the first batch produced AG600 airplane was delivered on June 30, said the AVIC, the country’s leading aircraft producer. The move marked a transition of the type of AG600 aircraft from the stage of development to mass production, the developer added. The Central and Southern Regional Administration of AVIC has carried out the inspection for the producing of this large part. After the AG600 aircraft obtains the type certificate, it will then be delivered to the customer, according to the developer.

The Science and Technology Carnival in our school
Last week, our school held a vibrant Science and Technology Carnival, aiming to spark students’ curiosity about science.
The event featured a rich array of activities. A robot competition drew cheers as student-designed robots navigated obstacle courses; a 3D printing workshop let us create small gadgets like keychains; and a “Little Inventors” corner displayed creative projects, from solar-powered toys to automatic plant-watering devices.
