We all know that drinking coffee late at night is bad for sleep. But does what you eat all day affect your sleep during the night A new study from a Japanese university says yes.
The study surveyed 5,000 people. They needed to share their information with two apps. One app recorded what they ate during the day. The other showed how well they slept at night. Then the scientists collected the information and looked at the results.
The findings are interesting. If people eat more protein (蛋白质), they could sleep about 10 minutes longer than those who eat less. Vegetable lovers fall asleep faster and sleep longer because they take in more fiber (纤维). What’s more, if people take in some carbohydrates (碳水化合物) like noodles, they could sleep better during the night. However, as for people who love fatty food, they sleep for a shorter time and wake up more often at night. So if you eat protein, fiber and carbohydrates in one meal, you may sleep better at night!
However, the study had some limitations (局限性). It didn’t show that people’s eating habits directly cause these changes. Besides, it didn’t check on other things that might affect people’s sleep, such as their age. But it does show that what we eat could play an important role in how well we sleep.
So if you find it hard to fall asleep at night, stop counting sheep. It’s time to think about adjusting your eating habits during the day!

During the Han Dynasty, there was a young man named Han Boyu. Everyone knew him because he loved and cared for his mother more than anything else.
One day, Han Boyu made a mistake. Like before, his mother wanted to teach him a lesson. She used a cane (藤条) to punish (惩罚) him. But this time, something was different. As soon as his mother hit him, he started crying loudly.
His mother was surprised and asked, “Why are you crying I’ve done this before, and you never cried.”
Han Boyu said, “Mom, every time you punished me before, it hurt—but I felt happy. I know that sounds silly. But it showed me that you were strong and healthy. Today, when you hit me, I felt less hurt. I realize that your body might not be as strong as before. I’m worried. I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
