三、阅读理解(围绕“百科知识获取”主题,渗透语法点)
A篇:Learning from Encyclopaedias
Encyclopaedias are great for finding information about prehistoric animals like dinosaurs. If you have some questions—such as “Were dinosaurs intelligent ” or “Why did they die out ”—you can look them up in an encyclopaedia.
These books have many entries: some about dinosaur birth, some about their behavior. Talented artists often draw pictures of dinosaurs based on scientific facts in encyclopaedias. Nobody knows everything about prehistoric times, so encyclopaedias help us learn more. You can borrow one from the library or buy one—either way, they’re useful!
1. What can you look up in an encyclopaedia about dinosaurs
A. How to draw dinosaurs B. Why dinosaurs died out
C. How to keep a dinosaur D. What dinosaurs ate for breakfast
2. What do encyclopaedia entries include
A. Only dinosaur pictures B. Information about birth and behavior
C. Stories about modern animals D. Nothing about prehistoric times
3. Who draws dinosaur pictures based on encyclopaedia facts
A. Talented artists B. Doctors C. Drivers D. Teachers
4. Why are encyclopaedias helpful
A. They tell us everything B. Nobody needs other books
C. Nobody knows all prehistoric facts D. They are very cheap
5. How can you get an encyclopaedia
A. Only from the library B. Only by buying
C. From the library or by buying D. From school desks
B篇:Organizing Encyclopaedia Entries
Editors organize encyclopaedia entries in alphabetical order, so it’s easy to find what you need. For example, “dinosaur” comes before “elephant,” and “intelligent” comes after “artistic.”
Some entries are short, with just a few facts. Others are longer, with details about a whole species—like how a dinosaur’s original appearance changed over time. You might find information about dinosaur suffering or their relationship to modern birds.
Encyclopaedias play an important role in general education. They help students record useful facts in their notebooks and answer any question about the world.
6. How are encyclopaedia entries organized
A. By size B. In alphabetical order C. By color D. By age
7. What can you find in longer entries
A. Details about a whole dinosaur species B. Only one fact
C. Pictures of modern cars D. Stories about astronauts
8. What might you learn about dinosaurs in an encyclopaedia
A. How to build a time machine B. Their relationship to modern birds
C. How to cook dinosaur eggs D. What dinosaurs wore
9. What role do encyclopaedias play in education
A. They replace teachers B. They help students record facts
C. They make homework harder D. They teach art skills
10. Who can benefit from using encyclopaedias
A. Only artists B. Students and anyone wanting to learn
C. Only drivers D. Nobody

My Encyclopaedia Experience
Last week, I used an encyclopaedia to learn about dinosaurs. I had some questions: “Were any dinosaurs artistic ” and “How intelligent were they ” I found the entries easily—they were in alphabetical order.
Some entries had pictures by talented artists, and others told about dinosaur birth. Nobody in my class knew much about prehistoric vehicles, but the encyclopaedia had answers. I recorded facts in my notebook, like why dinosaurs died out.
Encyclopaedias play an important role in learning. They help anybody find information, and I plan to borrow more from the library!
