Many people believe that housework is just women’s work. Even some women share the same opinion. However, Hajer Sharief, a well-known human rights activist (人权活动家) in Libya, doesn’t think so. She strongly believe that housework should be a shared responsibility (共同责任). Even when she was a little girl, she gave voice to it.
Hajer grew up as the only girl in her family. When she was 13, she felt sad and angry that she was the only one to do the dishes in her family at home. She brought it up in a family meeting. However, her two brothers didn’t think it was a problem because none of the other boys they knew were doing the dishes. Seeing no solution to her problem, Hajer suggested in another family meeting that instead of one person doing all the dishes, each family member should do their own dishes.
