One day, while I was waiting for my father, I saw a little boy, around two years old, running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance. The boy had a big smile on his face. Suddenly, he fell on the grass, got up, without looking back at his mother, ran as fast as he could, again, still with a smile on his face. It seemed that nothing had happened to him.
At that moment, I thought to myself, “Why aren’t most adults this way ” Most adults, when they fall down, they will feel so embarrassed that they will not try again if someone sees them fall. Or, because they fall, they will find a good excuse for themselves that they’re not fit for it. They will give up trying again for fear of failure (失败).
However, when kids fall down, they don’t consider their falling down as a failure, instead, they treat it as a learning experience. They try again and again until they succeed. The answer must be that they have not connected “falling down” with the word “failure”. What’s more, they probably think to themselves that it’s quite normal to fall down and that it’s not wrong to do so. In other words, they are not frightened of making mistakes, so they stay active.
I was deeply impressed by the boy’s persistence (锲而不舍).

14.In the writer’s opinion, why can’t many adults succeed
A.Because they are afraid of being embarrassed.
B.Because they can’t find good excuses.
C.Because they always think it’s too hard to succeed.
D.Because they refuse to make a second try after failing once.
15.What’s the writer’s main purpose (目的) of writing the passage
A.To tell us not to be afraid to fail.

46.例文
Hello everyone, I’m Lin Tao. The new term has started, and I’d like to share my plan for learning English.
First, I’ll improve my pronunciation. I’ll listen to English tapes every morning and repeat after them. I’ll also ask my teacher for help when I’m not sure about a sound. For listening, I plan to listen to English cartoons and news for 20 minutes every day. It can help me get used to different accents and understand spoken English better. Grammar is important too. I’ll learn one grammar rule each week and do some exercises to practice it. I’ll write down the mistakes I make and review them regularly. To improve my writing, I’ll keep a diary in English. I’ll write about my daily life or feelings, and ask my teacher to check it for me. I hope to learn some useful sentences and use them in my writing.
I believe my English will get better with this plan. Let’s work hard together!
