SpoGomi, a mixture of “sport” and “gomi” (Japanese for rubbish) is a popular competition in which teams of 3-5 people try to pick up the most litter of the highest quality in a set period of time.
Japan recently announced that it would host the first SpoGomi World Cup in November of 2023 with teams from all over the world searching the streets of Tokyo for litter to pick up. Each team of three players will have 60 minutes to gather the most litter from a designated (指定的) area while trying to sort it correctly into color-coded bags for each type. When the time is up, the litter will be weighed and checked for proper sorting and the team with the most litter wins. In case of a tie, the winner is decided by the quality of the litter with points awarded by type.
The SpoGomi World Cup sounds like a great way to encourage people to keep public spaces clean, but in terms of competition, there is a little incredulity as to which team will win. After all, the Japanese are famous worldwide for cleaning up after themselves everywhere they go.
Participants (参与者) all wear heavy-duty cleaning gloves that allow them to pick up almost any type of litter, as well as tongs to pick up a litter from a standing position. At the start of the competition, they all shout “picking up litter is a sport!” before running into their designated areas. At the end of the given time, all participants return to the starting line to have their litter weighed and checked.
Winning teams usually receive a certificate or an award from the organizers, and maybe a small prize from sponsors. But SpoGomi isn’t really about rewards. Participants just enjoy the competitive nature of the sport, working as a group, spending valuable time outdoors and keeping their cities clean.
38. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about the SpoGomi World Cup
A. Its history. B. Its importance. C. Its competition rules. D. Its participation needs
39. What does the underlined word “incredulity” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean

A. They can grow the love for wildlife. B. They can form better team spirit.
C. They can learn to manage their life better. D. They can become more energetic and generous.
41. What’s the passage
A. A diary. B. A paper. C. A news report. D. A book review.

Hundreds of pedestrians (行人) in Tianjin have been punished so far this year for looking at their mobile phones while crossing the road. The regulation (规定) says that pedestrians who look at their mobile phones while crossing the road first receive a warning or a fine of 50 yuan if they refuse to correct their behaviour.
“The warning is not a simple reminder. It is a legal (合法的) way with a legal punishment notice given to the pedestrians, ” Xing Yi, an official of the government, said. “Those who refuse to cooperate with the traffic police or whose behaviour harms other people will be fined 50 yuan. ”
Zhou Xin works in a busy area in Tianjin. He says that he gives such punishment three to five times each day, and that most of the time the legal warning is useful.
“More and more people look at their mobile phones while crossing roads, which raises the risk of traffic accidents,” said Yang Yingjun, another official of the government. “The regulation is trying to make people pay more attention to safety when they walk.”
Yang said that in 2019, a local university student who was looking at his mobile phone while crossing a road was hit and killed by a large truck. Similar accidents have been reported in many cities, such as Taizhou and Wenzhou, so those cities have similar regulations.
Many people have expressed their support for the regulation. “I think heavier fines should be given to people who look at their mobile phones on the road,” said a netizen.

Exam time is the most stressful (压力重的) period of the year. You have worked all school term on your classes and now it’s the time to prove what you have learned. With so much at stake (处于成败关头), it is easy to get stressed about your exams. However, with the right amount of hard work and focus you can pass your tests with ease!
When I was in school, I used to get very stressed over my exams. So did my friends. Some people stopped eating and others ate too much! Some gave up and others burned themselves out! The most important thing to remember when studying is not to feel frightened! Take the middle path—stay calm, eat healthily and get a rest. Pushing yourself too hard is just as dangerous as not studying enough. A tired, overworked brain is just as useless as a lazy, empty one!
So, what should you do Arrange a time each day for study and a time for relaxation. You may have less time to relax than usual, but you still need to let your brain rest for a few moments and get plenty of sleep. If you are tired, information will not stick in your memory. Finally eat healthy foods that fuel your body and mind.
It does no good to think too much about your exams. Some students may think that the rest of their life depends on them. That’s not true. Instead, just view the exams as another difficulty you will overcome. You have overcome all kinds of difficulties in your life so far. With the right amount of work and focus, you will pass your exams with flying colours! High school is right around the corner!

Dear Kevin,
I’m very glad to hear from you. Our hometown—Caoyou has changed a lot over the years. Many new parks and tall buildings have been built. The roads are wider and cleaner.
I’ve changed too. I’m taller and more outgoing. I usually use my new computer to study online and listen to music. In my free time, I like playing basketball with friends.
For the May Day holiday, I plan to visit the new science museum in the city.
I hope to meet you soon.
Yours,
Li Ming
