Bian Zhuangzi Stabs the Tigers

In ancient times, there was a brave warrior named Bian Zhuangzi in the State of Lu. He was extremely strong and courageous—he never feared any powerful animal.
One day, he went hunting with a friend. At noon, they walked into the deep part of a dense forest. Bian Zhuangzi spotted two tigers, one big and one small. They were eating a captured prey with great enjoyment, so focused that they didn’t notice anyone approaching. As they ate, maybe because the meat was delicious, when only a little of the prey was left, the two tigers suddenly started fighting each other. They roared fiercely, showing their teeth and claws as they pounced at each other. The quiet mountain forest began to “shake” in an instant.
Bian Zhuangzi was not afraid at all. He calmly pulled out his sharp sword, ready to rush forward immediately and stab the two tigers. But unexpectedly, his friend stopped him. “Look, these two tigers are fighting,” his friend said. “One is big and the other is small. In the end, one will die and the other will be injured—the big one will get hurt, and the small one will be bitten to death. At that time, you can stab the injured tiger. Won’t that be easy And you can even catch two tigers at once without much effort!”
After hearing this, Bian Zhuangzi thought it made perfect sense. So he put his sword away, hid quietly behind a big tree, and watched the two tigers fight from a distance. At first, both tigers fought hard. But as time passed, the smaller tiger gradually lost the fight and finally lay on the ground, not moving at all. The bigger tiger, covered in wounds, lay in the grass, gasping for breath heavily. When Bian Zhuangzi saw the right moment, he pulled out his sword again at once and stabbed the big tiger. The tiger died before it could even roar. Sure enough, they got two tigers without lifting a finger.
Moral
Bian Zhuangzi followed his friend’s advice, took advantage of the conflict between the two tigers, and attacked at the most favorable time. With just one stab, he caught two tigers. This is what we mean by “achieving two goals with one action”—it tells us that if we seize the right opportunity, we can get benefits from two aspects by doing just one thing.
