一、学习目标(Learning Objectives)
By the end of this class, students should be able to:
Master the organization and language features of a page in a wellness book.掌握健康书中作者叙述的结构和语言特点;
Form a healthy attitudes towards health形成正确的健康观;
Write a page in a wellness book 独立为健康簿编写一页内容
教学活动
Activity 1 Lead-in
Play a video of interviewing passersby about their ways to keep fit, then guide students to discuss the following questions:
① Do you think you are fit Why or why not
② How to keep fit (e.g., diet, exercise, sleep)
③ What is a "wellness book" Try to define it based on your understanding.
The Wellness Book shows readers how to create and control their own well being. Using the book, in combination with modern medical treatments, will aid in prevention and treatment of a series of illnesses.
Activity 2 Reading
Read for Main Ideas
① Write down the main idea of each paragraph:
Paragraph 1: problems in the past
Paragraph 2: changes at present
Paragraph 3: results in the end
② How is text organized
By time order. (past problems → turning point → present state)
Read for Details
What problems did Kayla have in the past (List 2-3 points)
She was worried about about her weight and appearance.
What does the sentence “I almost went bananas” mean
It means she nearly went crazy because she was so tired and anxious after trying various methods.
What made Kayla change her thinking
It is an article that said instead of asking “ Am I fat ”, people should be asking “ Am I fit ”.

Sample writing
I always felt anxious and stressful at senior high school at first because I was afraid of being left behind. I was worried about so many things that I couldn’t sleep well and focus on my study.
Then, I read a book called “Who Moved Your Cheese” which made me realize that making changes can make a difference to life. Instead of just worrying about my study, I would make a schedule for my study and finish the to-do list. Rather than being anxious the whole day, I would do some exercises regularly and listen to music to relieve my stress and tiredness after studying, which also helped me feel more energetic.
Now, I stopped feeling upset about something new. Instead, I would also always remind myself to smile as often as possible and stay positive about everything that is going to happen.

First, maintaining a regular daily schedule is essential. Try going to bed earlier and doing some meditation before sleep to improve your sleep quality. Besides, doing regular exercise, such as jogging or swimming, can not only help you lose weight but also make you feel relaxed. Also, pay attention to your diet. It’s a good idea to cut down on junk food and choose healthier options like fruits and vegetables.
