Trends in electric car markets
Electric car sales topped 17 million worldwide in 2024, rising by more than 25%. And China maintained its lead among major markets, with electric car sales over 11 million.
Among them, sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) (插电混合动力汽车) have been growing faster than sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV). The acceleration (加速) of PHEV sales in China led the share of BEV sales to fall slightly in 2024, though in absolute terms EV sales increased sevenfold over the same period, demonstrating their continued appeal to new customers.
The growth in China reflects in no small part the growing price competitiveness of battery electric cars with conventional cars in the country. In addition, China’s electric car market benefited from the government’s trade-in scheme (以旧换新计划) in April 2024.
Besides, recent years have seen the birth of several new electric car brands in emerging markets in Asia. And they are seeing local and even international success. Here are displays for electric car sales share in some selected countries in 2024.
Notably, the rapid growth in electric car sales over the past years has had a significant impact on the global oil consumption: The global stock of electric cars replaced over 1 million barrels per day of oil consumption in 2024.
For the full year 2025, electric car sales are expected to increase by 25% globally, which is similar to the growth rate from the 2024. As a result, electric car sales top 20 million worldwide. While sales volumes may be impacted by economic and policy uncertainties, more than one in four cars sold in 2025 is expected to be electric.
21.How much did the sales of BEVs in China increase in 2024 compared to 2021
A.1.5 million. B.3.7 million.
C.5.9 million. D.6.4 million.
22.What contributed to China’s EV market growth in 2024 according to the text
A.The innovative designs of electric cars.
B.The expansion of the overseas market.
C.Price competitiveness and government support.
D.The explosive growth in the sales of PHEVs.
23.Which country saw the largest increase in electric car sales share in 2024
A.Indonesia. B.Malaysia. C.Vietnam. D.Türkiye.
August Lamm, a writer, artist and former art influencer, hasn’t owned a smartphone since 2022. Her journey to give up the smartphone began shortly after graduating from college, when she started posting pictures of her art online and got hundreds of thousands of followers. “Everything that I shared online — about my love life or my vacations or my house — all these pictures and words were feeding into my business so they would result in sales,” Lamm said. Ultimately, she said, the pressure to keep that up became too much, and she reached a breaking point.
At first, Lamm tried to put her phone in a drawer and didn’t look at it for a whole day, which she said “was very inconvenient to everyone in my life”. It took her about a year to sell her smartphone and fully commit to the dumbphone lifestyle. Her dumbphone offers only basic calling and texting.
Still, there are certain things that may feel impossible to navigate without smartphones, since they are more than just texting and scrolling (滚动) through social media. In 2025, these devices function as virtual wallets, health trackers, identification tools, and even personal assistants. However, Lamm has found solutions for the challenges. “You figure out these solutions by asking,” Lamm said, “like asking the parking company if they can give you another option when you can’t use parking meter (计时器), and a lot of the time they will”
When it comes to her career, Lamm says she earns more money now than she ever did as an influencer online. That’s because now she only does the actual work, rather than spending hours and hours crafting posts. “When I stopped posting I sought out income sources that existed before social media: agencies, magazines, galleries, publishers, she said. “If I hadn't spent thousands of hours trying to build a following, I could have spent that time going to galleries, taking classes, meeting people, making connections, organizing events, submitting to exhibitions and otherwise making a name for myself in the real world. I could have improved more quickly if I had not prioritized online visibility over creative development”
24.What made August Lamm decide to give up the smartphone
A.Her addiction to the smartphone.
B.The stress from social networking.
C.Her pressure from the busy college life.
D.The sense of duty to help her followers.
25.Why does the author mention the circumstances in 2025 in paragraph 3
A.To stress the diversity of solutions to phone addiction.
B.To illustrate people can live well without smartphones.
C.To state the close connection between man and devices.
D.To give the fact that people are often interrupted by phones.
26.What message does August Lamm want to convey in the last paragraph
A.One can be less reliant on social media.
B.Use smartphones only when necessary.
C.Social media do more harm than good.
D.Dumbphones are making a comeback.
27.How can we best describe August Lamm according to the text
A.Responsible and strict. B.Determined and adaptable.
C.Generous and charitable. D.Fashionable and knowledgeable.
A recent study from Germany, published in Frontiers in Communication, reveals a surprising result about our daily AI(Artificial Intelligence)interactions.
The study focused on the energy consumption of large language models. According to researchers, the most advanced AI models can emit (排放) over 2, 000 grams of CO2 equivalent (当量) to answering just 500 questions. The study tested 14 different AI models, ranging from small 7-billion-parameter (参数) systems to massive 72-billion-parameter ones. The top-performing Cogito model (70 billion parameters) achieved 84.9% accuracy but emitted 1,341 grams of CO2 — nearly 50 times more than the smallest model. When AI models think out loud(showing their reasoning step-by-step like a student), energy use jumps 4 to 6 times higher than regular responses.
On the other hand, when asked simple multiple-choice questions that should require just a one-letter answer, some reasoning models generated responses with over 14,000 words. One model produced a single answer that was 37, 575 words long, longer than short novels! The verbosity comes with a cost. The study tracked “tokens”, which are units of text that AI models process and generate. While basic models might use 37 tokens to answer a question, reasoning models averaged over 1,400 tokens per response, with some stretching into the thousands.
However, not all the findings were concerning. The research revealed that some models strike a middle ground between performance and environmental impact. The Qwen 2.5 model with 72 billion parameters achieved strong 77.6% accuracy while emitting just 427 grams of CO2 equivalent, less than one-third the emissions of comparable reasoning models.
Generative AI now consumes 29.3 terawatt-hours annually — equal to Ireland’s entire electricity use. Yet shockingly, only 2% of AI research papers mention carbon emissions. “If users know the exact CO2 cost of their AI-generated outputs, such as casually turning themselves into an action figure, they might be more selective and thoughtful about when and how they use these technologies,” says researcher Maximilian Dauner. The bottom line: Our drive for smarter AI comes with an environmental price we can no longer brush aside.
28.What did researchers discover about AI models
A.The smarter, the more energy-hungry.
B.The larger, the less energy consumption.
C.Thinking out loud lowers CO2 output.
D.Small models perform best in accuracy.
29.What does the underlined word “verbosity” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Performance. B.Lengthiness. C.Restriction. D.Difference.
30.Why does the author mention the Qwen 2.5 model
A.To compare energy use with Ireland’s.
B.To prove larger models waste energy.
C.To highlight the top-performing model.
D.To show greener models can be available.
31.What does the last paragraph imply about AI
A.Its future use is seriously questioned.
B.Its environmental costs can be avoidable.
C.Its sustainability efforts are surely enough.
D.Its negative effect on the earth is ignored.
Years ago I spoke with a 16-year-old girl who was considering the idea of having a computer companion in the future, and she described the upside to me. It’s not that the robot she had imagined was so inspiring. It’s that she had already found people to be so disappointing. And now, for the first time, she explained to me, people have options. Back then I thought her comments seemed prescient Now I find them timely.
This girl had grown up in a time when conversational machines were presented as empathy devices that could understand her. And so it seemed natural to her that other machines would expand the range of conversation. But there is something she may have been too young to understand or like a lot of us, tend to forget when we talk to machines. These robots can perform empathy in a conversation about your friend, your mother, or your child, but they have no experience of any of these relationships. Their conversations about life occupy the realm of the as-if.
In our manufacturing and marketing of these machines, we encourage children to develop an emotional tie that is sure to lead to an empathetic dead end. On top of this, it has become fashionable for psychologists to criticize empathy, a unique form of human connection, just at a time when we are starting relationships with objects with none to give. The coincidence is too convenient. Children will lose the ability to have empathy if they relate too consistently with objects that cannot form empathetic ties.
Technology challenges us to look at our human values. We can try to use technology to cure Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, which would be a blessing, but that blessing is not a reason to move from artificial brain enhancement to artificial intimacy (亲密).
And yet that is the kind of talk that one hears these days. The narrative begins with the idea that compassionate robots would be “better than nothing”, better because there aren’t enough people to teach, love, and tend to people. But that idea quickly shifts into another: robots would be better than almost anything. Unlike people, they would not abandon you or get sick and die. They might not be capable of love, but they won’t break your heart.
From better than nothing to better than anything. These are stations on our voyage to forgetting what it means to be human. But the forgetting begins long before we have a robot companion in place; it begins when we even think of putting one in place. To build the robots, we must first rebuild ourselves as people ready to be their companions.
Being human today is about the struggle to remain genuinely empathetic. Ourselves—to remember why it matters, to remember what we cherish. These days, to be human is to keep one’s mind on the glory that one is.
32.Why does the author mention the 16-year-old girl
A.To uncover a problem. B.To evaluate a comment.
C.To provide an example. D.To introduce a topic.
33.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3
A.Technology unexpectedly advances empathy studies.
B.Psychologists accidentally ignore the needs of children.
C.The criticism of empathy is scientifically valid but poorly timed.
D.The tech industries may benefit from the timing of psychological cycles.
34.Which of the following statements might the author agree with
A.Technological progress clarifies human values through challenges.
B.Artificial intimacy reflects technological progress yet threatens empathy.
C.Future technologies like AI companions require stricter moral regulations.
D.Technology’s medical benefits justify its application in emotional domains.
35.Which would be the best title for the passage
A.Empathy at Risk: Psychology’s New Frontier
B.Faking Intimacy: When Machines Decrease Our Humanity
C.Why Humans Prefer Robots: An Analysis of Social Failure
D.The Rise of Robot Companions: A Technological Revolution
Stuffed animals, or plush toys, are a cherished part of childhood for many. Yet their appeal extends far beyond the early years. Whether it’s a soft lion or a cuddly bunny, these comforting companions have a unique place in the hearts of millions. 36
One of the primary reasons stuffed animals are so beloved is the comfort they provide. For children, these soft, huggable toys often serve as a source of emotional security. The act of cuddling a stuffed animal can provide reassurance and a sense of calm. 37 The tactile sensation of soft fabric and the comforting weight of a plush toy can act like a physical comfort object, similar to a security blanket.
Besides, stuffed animals often become loyal companions, offering emotional support. 38 The attachment they develop to their stuffed animals is not just a passing phase. It often carries lasting emotional significance well into adulthood.
39 Children might “care” for their toys in ways they see adults caring for them, developing empathy and nurturing skills. This kind of play helps children understand complex emotions like love, concern, and responsibility. This allows them to build emotional intelligence from an early age.
Beyond emotional comfort, stuffed animals have been used as tools in therapy. In child psychology, therapists often incorporate stuffed animals to help children express their emotions, fears, and wishes in a non-threatening way. When a child has difficulty verbalizing complex feelings, a stuffed animal can serve as a “voice” for those emotions. 40 Many find comfort in hugging or holding a plush toy as a way to alleviate stress, anxiety, or even physical pain. A growing body of research suggests hugging a stuffed animal can reduce stress hormones, and trigger the release of oxytocin, which promotes feelings of well-being and relaxation.
A.Why do they hold such a special place in seeking comfort
B.Many children treat them as real friends or family members.
C.But what makes stuffed animals more than just simple toys
D.Stuffed animals are also often used as a form of role-playing.
E.It can help children feel safe, especially during times of stress.
F.Cuddling stuffed animals in therapy can keep adults in high spirits.
G.Adults too can benefit from the therapeutic aspects of stuffed animals.

I didn’t like Del so much. He always called me the nickname “Germy”, which meant “dirty”, instead of my real name “Jamie”. Besides, he was known as a trouble-maker in school. So when the head teacher Mr. Smith asked Del to come to his office, I naturally thought that Del had done something mean to someone. Through the window, I caught sight of a smaller boy crying. Del seemed unhappy, too.
He did not return to class that day. All of us were discussing what had happened to him. What else could such an annoying boy do “He must have hit the boy and was sent home,” I whispered to my friends. Their eyes widened. It felt good to see them so interested in what I said.
The next morning, the whole school was talking about Del being expelled(开除) for beating up a kid. I was surprised that my assumptions were passed on so quickly. So when Del walked into the classroom, all the kids were shocked. The kids next to him shift ed their desks away. “What’s your problem ” Del asked. “I don’t want you to attack me,” one kid said. Some laughed. “Yeah, I might,” said Del. I could tell he was joking, but many kids thought he admitted he did beat up someone.
During recess(课间休息), Del tried to join the kickball game. “Neither team wants you,” one of the players said. “Why ” Del asked, looking confused. “I always play with you guys.” They ignored him and went on playing. Del sat by himself while the rest of the school enjoyed their recess away from him. Del looked lonely and sad, much different from before. I started to feel sorry for him.
Later that day, I learned what really happened. The kid was Del’s little brother and he was crying because their mother fell ill and was sent to hospital. I felt even sorrier for what I said before. I started a rumor(谣言).

根据第一段中“Ultimately, she said, the pressure to keep that up became too much, and she reached a breaking point. (她说,最终,保持这种状态的压力变得太大了,她达到了崩溃的临界点。)”可知,是社交网络带来的压力让August Lamm决定放弃使用智能手机。故选B。
25.推理判断题。根据第三段中“In 2025, these devices function as virtual wallets, health trackers, identification tools, and even personal assistants. However, Lamm has found solutions for the challenges. (在2025年,这些设备将充当虚拟钱包、健康追踪器、身份识别工具,甚至是个人助理。然而,Lamm已经找到了应对这些挑战的方法。)”可知,如果没有智能手机,有些事情可能会让人觉得无法驾驭,因为它们不仅仅是发短信和浏览社交媒体。所以作者在下文提到2025年的情况是为了说明人与智能设备之间的联系非常密切。故选C。
26.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“If I hadn’t spent thousands of hours trying to build a following, I could have spent that time going to galleries, taking classes, meeting people, making connections, organizing events, submitting to exhibitions and otherwise making a name for myself in the real world. I could have improved more quickly if I had not prioritized online visibility over creative development. (如果我没有花费数千小时试图建立粉丝群体,我本可以把那些时间花在去画廊参观、上课、结识他人、建立人脉、组织活动、提交作品参展,以及在现实世界中为自己打响名气上。如果我没有把在网络上的曝光度置于创意发展之上,我本可以进步得更快。)”可推知,August Lamm在最后一段想传达的信息是人们可以减少对社交媒体的依赖。故选A。
根据第二段中“It took her about a year to sell her smartphone and fully commit to the dumbphone lifestyle. (她花了大约一年的时间才卖掉自己的智能手机,并完全投入到功能手机的生活方式中。)”以及第三段中“However, Lamm has found solutions for the challenges. (然而,Lamm已经找到了应对这些挑战的方法。)”可知,August Lamm决心放弃智能手机,并且能够适应没有智能手机的生活,找到应对挑战的方法,说明她是一个有决心且适应能力强的人。故选B。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了德国一项研究揭示大型语言模型能耗高,部分模型兼顾性能与环保。
28.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The top-performing Cogito model (70 billion parameters) achieved 84.9% accuracy but emitted 1,341 grams of CO2 — nearly 50 times more than the smallest model.(表现最好的Cogito模型(700亿参数)准确率达到84.9%,但排放了1341克二氧化碳,几乎是最小模型的50倍。)” 故选A。
根据第三段中“One model produced a single answer that was 37, 575 words long, longer than short novels! The verbosity comes with a cost.(一个模型生成了一个长达37575个单词的答案,比短篇小说还长!这种verbosity是有代价的。)”可知,一个模型生成的答案很长,所以这种冗长是有代价的,故推测verbosity意为“冗长”。A. Performance.表现;B. Lengthiness.冗长;C. Restriction.限制;D. Difference.不同。故选B。
根据第四段中“However, not all the findings were concerning. The research revealed that some models strike a middle ground between performance and environmental impact. The Qwen 2.5 model with 72 billion parameters achieved strong 77.6% accuracy while emitting just 427 grams of CO2 equivalent, less than one-third the emissions of comparable reasoning models.(然而,并非所有的发现都令人担忧。研究表明,一些模型在性能和环境影响之间取得了平衡。拥有720亿参数的Qwen 2.5模型达到了77.6%的准确率,同时只排放了427克二氧化碳当量,不到同类推理模型排放量的三分之一。)”可知,作者提到Qwen 2.5模型是为了说明更环保的模型是存在的。故选D。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Generative AI now consumes 29.3 terawatt-hours annually — equal to Ireland’s entire electricity use. Yet shockingly, only 2% of AI research papers mention carbon emissions.(生成式人工智能现在每年消耗29.3太瓦时的电力,相当于爱尔兰的全部用电量。然而,令人震惊的是,只有2%的人工智能研究论文提到了碳排放。)”可知,最后一段暗示了人工智能对地球的负面影响被忽视了。故选D。

【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章主要讨论了人们与机器人建立关系时,机器人表现出的看似亲密但实际是虚假的共情,这种虚假的亲密关系会让人们逐渐忘记作为人类的意义,减少人性。
32.推理判断题。根据第一段“Years ago I spoke with a 16-year-old girl who was considering the idea of having a computer companion in the future, and she described the upside to me. It’s not that the robot she had imagined was so inspiring. It’s that she had already found people to be so disappointing. And now, for the first time, she explained to me, people have options. Back then I thought her comments seemed prescient (预见未来的). Now I find them timely.
根据第三段“In our manufacturing and marketing of these machines, we encourage children to develop an emotional tie that is sure to lead to an empathetic dead end. On top of this, it has become fashionable for psychologists to critique empathy, a unique form of human connection, just at a time when we are starting relationships with objects with none to give. The coincidence is too convenient: children will lose the ability to have empathy if they relate too consistently with objects that cannot form empathetic ties.(在这些机器的制造和营销过程中,我们鼓励孩子们建立一种情感联系,这种联系很可能会导致一种缺乏共情的僵化状态。
根据第四段“Technology challenges us to look at our human values. We can try to use technology to cure Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, which would be a blessing, but that blessing is not a reason to move from artificial brain enhancement to artificial intimacy (亲密). (科技促使我们审视人类的价值。我们可以尝试用技术来治疗帕金森氏症或阿尔茨海默氏症,这将是一种祝福,但这种祝福并不是从人工增强大脑转向人工亲密的理由)”以及第六段中“From better than nothing to better than anything. These are stations on our voyage to forgetting what it means to be human. But the forgetting begins long before we have a robot companion in place; it begins when we even think of putting one in place.
通读全文特别是最后一段“Being human today is about the struggle to remain genuinely empathetic. Ourselves—to remember why it matters, to remember what we cherish. These days, to be human is to keep one’s mind on the glory that one is.(如今作为人类,就是要努力保持真正的同理心。

36.根据上文“Stuffed animals, or plush toys, are a cherished part of childhood for many. Yet their appeal extends far beyond the early years. Whether it’s a soft lion or a cuddly bunny, these comforting companions have a unique place in the hearts of millions.(对许多人来说,毛绒玩具是童年珍贵的一部分。然而,它们的吸引力远远超出了最初的几年。无论是柔软的狮子还是可爱的兔子,这些令人安慰的伴侣在数百万人的心中都占有独特的地位)”可知,上文提到毛绒玩具深受喜爱,下一段开始阐述毛绒玩具受欢迎的原因,本句起到承上启下的作用,引出下文对毛绒玩具特殊之处的讨论,故C选项“但是是什么让毛绒动物不仅仅是简单的玩具呢?”符合语境,故选C。
37.根据上文“One of the primary reasons stuffed animals are so beloved is the comfort they provide. For children, these soft, huggable toys often serve as a source of emotional security. The act of cuddling a stuffed animal can provide reassurance and a sense of calm.(毛绒玩具如此受人喜爱的主要原因之一是它们提供的安慰。对于孩子们来说,这些柔软、可爱的玩具通常是情感安全感的来源。抱着毛绒玩具的行为可以提供安慰和平静的感觉)”可知,前文说毛绒玩具能给孩子带来情感上的安全感,拥抱毛绒玩具能带来安慰和平静,故本句进一步说明毛绒玩具让孩子有安全感,故E选项“它可以帮助孩子们感到安全,尤其是在有压力的时候”符合语境,故选E。
38.根据上文“Besides, stuffed animals often become loyal companions, offering emotional support.(此外,毛绒玩具经常成为忠实的伙伴,提供情感支持)”以及后文“The attachment they develop to their stuffed animals is not just a passing phase. It often carries lasting emotional significance well into adulthood.(他们对毛绒玩具的依恋并不是暂时的。它通常会在成年后带来持久的情感意义)”可知,上文说毛绒玩具是忠诚的伙伴,能提供情感支持,后文说孩子对毛绒玩具的依恋不是短暂的阶段,推测本句说明孩子对毛绒玩具的特殊情感,故B选项“许多孩子把他们当作真正的朋友或家人”符合语境,故选B。
39.根据后文“Children might “care” for their toys in ways they see adults caring for them, developing empathy and nurturing skills. This kind of play helps children understand complex emotions like love, concern, and responsibility. This allows them to build emotional intelligence from an early age.(孩子们可能会以他们看到的成年人照顾他们的方式“照顾”他们的玩具,培养同理心和养育技能。这种游戏可以帮助孩子理解复杂的情感,比如爱、关心和责任。这使得他们在很小的时候就能建立情商)”可知,后文说孩子会像大人照顾自己一样 “照顾” 玩具,培养同理心和养育技能,本句为主旨句,引出下文孩子通过玩毛绒玩具进行角色扮演的内容,故D选项“填充动物玩具也经常被用作角色扮演的一种形式”符合语境,故选D。
40.根据前文“Beyond emotional comfort, stuffed animals have been used as tools in therapy. In child psychology, therapists often incorporate stuffed animals to help children express their emotions, fears, and wishes in a non-threatening way. (除了情感上的安慰,毛绒动物还被用作治疗工具。在儿童心理学中,治疗师经常使用毛绒动物玩具来帮助孩子们以一种不具威胁性的方式表达他们的情绪、恐惧和愿望)”可知,第五段从儿童治疗转向成年人受益,G选项“成年人也能从毛绒玩具的治疗方面获益”衔接后文研究结论,后文“Many find comfort in hugging or holding a plush toy as a way to alleviate stress, anxiety, or even physical pain. A growing body of research suggests hugging a stuffed animal can reduce stress hormones, and trigger the release of oxytocin, which promotes feelings of well-being and relaxation.(许多人认为拥抱或抱着毛绒玩具是缓解压力、焦虑甚至身体疼痛的一种方式。越来越多的研究表明,拥抱毛绒玩具可以减少压力荷尔蒙,并引发催产素的释放,从而促进幸福感和放松感)”说很多人通过拥抱毛绒玩具缓解压力,说明毛绒玩具对成年人也有治疗作用,故符合语境,故选G。

66.Dear Mr. Smith,
Thank you for proposing the two wonderful ideas for English Week. I would recommend the English Song Competition for the following reasons.
First, singing English songs is a fun way to improve pronunciation and vocabulary naturally. Many students enjoy music, so participation would be high. Second, this activity allows creative performances — solo, duets, or even group acts — making it more engaging than a traditional contest. Lastly, we can invite judges to give feedback on both language skills and stage presence, adding educational value.
I’m sure this event will be both fun and educational for everyone. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. Not wanting him to feel left out, I walked over and sat down beside him. “Hey Germy,” he said. “My name is Jamie.” I replied. I wanted to apologize for starting that rumor about him, but I was too ashamed to say it out loudly. “Del, do you want to play kickball with us ” I asked instead. He looked surprised but happy at the same time. After a moment of silence, he nodded his head.
Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over. I stood up and shouted to the other kids, “Guys, come here! Let’s play kickball together! ” Some of them hesitated, but they eventually joined us. Del was smiling again and so were we. As we played, I realized that Del wasn’t as bad as I thought he was. He was just a normal kid who wanted to have fun and be accepted by others. From then on, whenever someone tried to start a rumor about him, I would stand up for him and tell them the truth about Del. We became good friends, and I learned an important lesson about judging people based on rumors.
