Abigail abi@
China!
Hi, Abigail, Sorry, I didn’t write yesterday, but it was such a busy day. I just didn’t get the time. We played our second volleyball match of the trip. It was against the under-15 Beijing champions (冠军) and they won easily. I also hurt my hand quite badly. The sports centre where we played was fantastic, really modern and much better than ours back home. Anyway, I’ve got ten minutes to write to you quickly. Then I’m going to the bus station to catch a bus to Luanping. I’m so excited because we’re going to visit the Great Wall. It was probably the one thing I wanted to do most on this trip, after playing volleyball, of course! We’re going to explore the Jinshanling section of the wall. It’s in the mountains and it’s quite a walk to get up to it. But the views are amazing. I’m going to take loads of photos. Luanping is about 130 km away, so we’re going to spend the night there. Then we’re going back to Beijing for our last day in the city. Our last match is in the afternoon, but I’m not going to play because of my hand. I can’t believe the trip is almost over. China is amazing and the Chinese people are so friendly. I want to stay longer. Lots of love, Bettina

Do you know what a resolution is It’s a kind of promise. Most of the time, we make promises to other people. (“Mom, I promise I’m going to tidy my room when I get back from school.”) However, promises you make to yourself are resolutions, and the most common kind is New Year’s resolutions. The start of the year is often a time for making resolutions. When we make resolutions at the beginning of the year, we hope that we are going to improve our lives. Some people write down their resolutions and plans for the coming year. This helps them to remember their resolutions. Others tell their family and friends about their wishes and plans.
There are different kinds of resolutions. Some are about physical health. For example, some people promise themselves they are going to start an exercise program or eat less fast food. Many resolutions have to do with self-improvement. These are about making yourself a better person. Some people might say they are going to take up a hobby like painting or taking photos, or learn to play the guitar. Some resolutions have to do with better planning, like making a weekly plan for schoolwork. For example, a student may have to find more time to study.
Although there are differences, most resolutions have one thing in common. People hardly ever keep them! There are good reasons for this. Sometimes the resolutions may be too difficult to keep. Sometimes people just forget about them. For this reason, some people say the best resolution is to have no resolutions! How about you
The key to having successful new year’s resolutions, is to find resolutions that are good for us — in other words, resolutions that meet with our lifestyle and interests. Being honest with ourselves and what we want in life can go a long way towards achieving our resolutions. Whether you love setting new resolutions or you’re doing it for the first time, you’ll be sure to find a resolution that encourages you and make 2024 the best year.

87.Why do people make a new year’s resolution
A.To celebrate the new year. B.To be a better self.
