American Jake Pinnick comes from a small town called Kewanee.
Pinnick said when he told friends and family he wanted to go to the Wudang Kungfu Academy in China, the response was typical.“It's not a usual thing to say,but it is pretty normal for kids to want to get out of a place like Kewanee. Most kids say something like they want to move to Hollywood and become an actor,"said the 30-year-old.“When I first thought about it,it was daydreaming for myself, too.”
Once at the academy,Pinnick said fitting in was softened by other foreigners in the area and at the school.Getting used to life was surprisingly easy given its peaceful nature. He found himself more at home in Wudang than in Kewanee.Locals were more than welcoming and willing to engage.
"The culture shock wasn't that bad.Surprisingly,I feel more of that going back to America now...Learning the language took time, but everyone around the school knew foreigners,so we had fun speaking broken English and Chinese back and forth at first."
After settling into a routine,Pinnick set about engaging in Chinese culture, including Kungfu training. He was also attracted by its philosophical tradition of living in harmony with the universe.
Pinnick said he had to go home after six months and immediately wanted to return to China, feeling it had become his home more than America, and he'd begun rewriting himself overseas.
His life now goes around training, teaching and studying. He graduated from the academy in
2014 and still helps teach there.
Pinnick said his goal is to one day return to America and teach what he's learned. Looking back,he said he's grown by leaps and bounds from a small-town American kid with an unshakable daydream.
4.What did Pinnick's family think of his idea of learning Kungfu
A.Unrealistic. B.Creative.

Young sunflowers turn and swing every day.New findings add to evidence that the plants are animal-like.
Harmer,a professor in the University of California at Davis,Department of Plant Biology, carried out a series of experiments on sunflowers in the field,in pots outdoors and in indoor growth chambers.
By staking plants so that they could not move,Harmer showed that he could destroy their ability to track the sun.He also noticed that sunflowers prevented from moving were not as tough and leafy as those that were free to move. When plants were moved indoor with a settled overhead light, they continued to swing back and forth for a few days.
The indoor plants did start tracking the “sun”again when the apparent source of lighting was moved across the room. The plants could reliably track the movement and return at night when the artificial day was close to a 24-hour cycle, but not when it was closer to 30 hours.
When sunflowers track the sun,the east sides of their stems grew more rapidly than the west sides. At night, the west sides grew faster as the stem swung the other way.The team identified a number of genes that were expressed at higher levels on the sun-ward side of the plant during the day or on the other side at night.A plant growth-regulating hormone, called auxin, appears to be a key driver.
The “dance”to the sun cycle obviously slows when the sunflower matures and its flowers open up.At that point, the plants stop moving during the day and settle down facing the sun in the east.
"Bees like warm flowers."Harmer said, adding that the bees are cold-blooded,so landing on a warm flower saves them energy and perhaps feels really good.
"The morning warmth changes the flowers in a way to make them more appealing to insects, perhaps causing them to release more attractive scents earlier in the day."he said “We're currently testing this idea."
8.What does the underlined word “staking”probably mean in Paragraph 3
A.tracking B.fastening
C.growing D.searching
9.What is the result of sunflowers being stopped from moving
A.They won't grow well.
B.They will grow faster than usual.
C.They won't swing back though set free.
D.They will produce a number of new genes.

A.To save energy for further growth.
B.To attract bees with morning warmth.
C.To avoid being damaged by strong sunlight.
D.To receive more sunlight for photosynthesis.
11.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Sunflowers rely on bees to regulate their growth hormones.
B.Scientists have genetically modified sunflowers to track artificial light.
C.Sunflowers exhibit animal-like behaviors through their responses to light.

While we race into a future where we outsource ( 外 包 )most of our problem-solving to artificial intelligence, the greatest threat is not super intelligent machinery. It's mindlessly putting too much trust in Big Tech and not enough trust in the power of our own minds.
A philosophy of artful thinking is a good way to avoid this.To think artfully means to solve problems using not just our brains, but also our hands, eyes, and ears, along with our emotions. This approach taps into the cognitive(认知的)resources that are spread throughout our bodies but often go unused.
Changing how we think is hard work. And it starts with a mindfulness practice.Accessing artful intelligence requires being mindful of how we think with our body, how we use our limbs( 四 肢),organs, and emotions to make sense of the world.Be mindful of all the different messages your body is sending you as well as the different roles and functions your bodily actions can play. For example, gesturing (做手势)in conversations is not just communicative. These movements often help the speaker to smooth out their thought process and assist in getting the words out.
Today,Big Tech is pushing a message of artificial-intelligence craziness and fear. What makes you stuck in it It's seeing the same things wherever you look.Big Tech gives you screens, hoping that your attention will always be attracted by their devices. If you want to find more freedom in this AI-filled world, improve your ability to mindfully shift your attention between different objects or levels of focus.Remember everything is born of a choice.
Artful thinking demands effortful mindfulness to ensure that what we do,what we hope to achieve by using these technological tools, will not weaken our humanity. As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Mindful living is an art,and each of us has to train to be an artist.”
12.According to the author, what is the primary threat posed by over-trusting Big Tech
A.It will cause people to rely entirely on screens for communication.
B.It may lead to the rapid development of super intelligent machinery.
C.It could weaken our ability to think and to use our minds independently.
D.It prevents artificial intelligence from solving complex problems effectively.
13.What is supposed to be included in a mindfulness practice
A.Concentrating on making proper gestures.
B.Being aware of our body's role in thinking.
C.Attaching importance to different body parts.
D.Laying emphasis on nonverbal communication.
14.Why does the author mention gesturing during conversations
A.To argue that people should speak less and gesture more.
B.To show that body language is more effective than speech.
C.To illustrate how physical actions can support and clarify thinking.
D.To emphasize the importance of nonverbal communication in AI development.
15.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A.The Dangers of Artificial Intelligence
B.The Art of Mindful Thinking in the AI Age
C.How to Improve Communication Through Gestures
D.The Greatest Threat of Super Intelligent AI Machinery

A.People should choose hobbies that are easy to carry out.
B.Hobbies also play an important role in our career development.
C.The positive health outcomes of hobbies are available to everyone.
D.Being able to do what you're passionate about really contributes to that.

As he set off on his walk, feeling confident and full of energy,an old man with a weather-beaten face walked up to him.The old man's eyes were filled with concern as he said, "Don't go this way.Beware! The paths here are not clearly marked. It's so easy to get lost in these woods."
But the young man just laughed at the old man's words. He stood up straight, held his head high, and said proudly,"I've studied maps of this area in great detail.I have a good knowledge of these trails. There's no way that I'll get lost.”"
The old man listened patiently to the young man's words. Then, with a sigh,he warned him 高三英语试卷第9页共10页

参考范文
Dear Tom,
Informed of the news that you plan to/intend to conduct a spring outing in People's Park next Saturday,I'm
writing to you to suggest some activities for it.
To begin with,I propose arranging a picnic in the park featuring homemade food such as sandwiches and
fried chicken./where we can share food like homemade food such as sandwiches and fried chicken. Not only will
this allow us to savor the food amid fascinating surroundings but it will also foster better friendship.Additionally,
engaging in interactive games, ranging from hide-and-seek to relay races, would also be beneficial. These games
require great coordination and mutual cooperation, through which our teamwork spirit can be strengthened.
I am convinced that this combination would make the outing both enjoyable and meaningful.Thank you for
taking my advice into account.Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
