An incense(香)stick
The most common way to measure time in ancient China was by
burning incense sticks,,called“-往香”in Chinese.It worked day and night
and was easy to carry and simple to make.An incense stick usually took
about half an hour to bum.
A cup of tea
“一盏茶”was about 15 minutes long.The teacup came with a lid(盖子)
and a small plate so people could drink slowly and keep tea leaves out of
their mouths.The time it took for a cup of tea to be served and cooled down
changed with the weather.In summer,cooling the tea took about 15
minutes,while in winter,it was faster-sometimes just 10 minutes.
A pot of wine
Finishing a pot of wine took about one shichen,.which equated(等同于)
two hours in modern time.
A meal
A meal was about half a shichen long.But in modern times,people usually
spend around half an hour for a meal.
