Junko Tabei was a Japanese mountaineer. She was the first woman to climb Mt. Qomolangma.
Junko was born on September 22,1939, in Miharu, Fukushima, Japan. She was born as
the fifth daughter among seven children. She was considered as a weak child in her early days.
However, just at the age of 10, she began climbing the mountain, while on a class trip to Mount
Nasu. But she only got to make a few climbs during her high school days, as her family could not
afford her expensive hobby.
Junko attended Showa Women's University from 1958 to 1962, studying English and
American literature. Also, she was a member of the mountain climbing club at her college. She
started the"Ladies Climbing Club: Japan (LCC)" in 1969 after graduating from college. Its
slogan was"Let' s go on an overseas expedition by ourselves." At the time, Junko climbed Mount
Fuji and the Matterhorn and was known as"the mountain climber" in Japan.
Junko' s LCC team attempted to climb to the summit(顶峰) of Mt. Qomolangma. The team
contained 15 members. They had to struggle a lot before attempting to climb Mt. Qomolangma.
At first, they were told that women are for raising children. The public just found it hard to
accept. However, at the last minute, Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper and Nippon Television
sponsored them.
After a long period of time, the team headed to Kathmandu in early 1975. They used the
same path that mountaineer Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay took.
Unfortunately, the women and the guides were buried in the snow during an accident. Junko
became unconscious for about six minutes until the Sherpa guides dug her out. Later, on May
16, 1975, Junko Tabei became the first woman to reach the summit of Mt. Qomolangma, along

The most invasive (入侵的) species on Earth is not a mouse or wild pig, but the water
hyacinth (水葫芦). Flowering in a water garden, the water hyacinth seems lovely and harmless,
but looking at how it can take over freshwater ecosystems like Kenya' s Lake Naivasha, one can
understand why the UN set up a program specifically to combat this water plant.
When the water hyacinth spreads across Lake Naivasha (a phenomenon that can be seen
from space), it destroys many native species. Local fishermen who depend on native fish for
their livelihood have been throwing net s or casting lines into the lake. They try to avoid entering
areas covered with water hyacinths, as one fisherman once got so trapped there that it took a long
time to rescue him. Connecting environmental work with business, low-income rural traders with
jobs, and issues with incentives (激励措施), HyarPak Ecorech Lingaci (HyarPak) is turning
this plant waste into plastic that biodegrades (生物降解). As long as the water hyacinth is
destroying the livelihood of the fishermen, HyarPak offers to pay them for as much water hyacinth
as they want to collect. It's then dried, processed, and turned into biodegradable alternatives to
single-use plastic products like wrappers, straws, cups, and party plates. Thus incentivized,
locals have so far cleared around 190,000 square meters of water hyacinth from the lake.
HyarPak founder Joseph Nguibira began his business journey after taking a boat trip on Lake
Naivasha and getting stuck in the water hyacinth for 5 hours. At the time, the Kenyan economy
was adjusting to a government decision to ban single-use plastic items. No domestic supply of
alternative products was available, and plastic shopping bags became a common item of choice
for smugglers (走私者).
Fishermen on the lake speaking with CNN said they' re pleased to have the opportunity to
make the extra income selling water hyacinth to Nguthiru. HyaPak is already exporting to the US
and Germany, and will soon expand to India and El Salvador.

What role does handwriting play in learning What place does handwriting have in the
modern classroom These were the questions put to the teachers, academic s and specialists in
education and technology at the Guardian's roundtable event on 27 February.
The delegates(代表) noted interestingly that everyone at the table had chosen to use pens,
not laptops for notes. Having a laptop open would be rude in such circumstances, Dominic
Wyse, professor of early childhood and primary education, argued - and he would find it harder
to engage.
The level of engagement involved in writing by hand is important, said Diana Strauss, co-
founder of Write Dance Training, which helps children develop handwriting through music. She
pointed to recent research carried out in France in which one group of adult learners wrote notes
while another typed them. Those writing by hand were later found to have a deeper level of
learning.
Wyse said that while he would like to see children taught to touch-type(盲打) early in
school, few children were found to form their first words on a keyboard. But educators should
also be careful not to teach handwriting before students were physically ready, argued Jonathan
Rodgers, primary advisory teacher for the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education. He criticised
the"rush to mark-make, or to write when they should be mark-making."
Helen Boden, chief executive of the British Dyslexia Association, said touch-typing can give
dyslexic(有诵读困难的) children automaticity they struggle with when learning to write by
hand. Technology can also help those with little or no English to interact with their classmates,
said Hana Emami, a primary school project manager. Yet she warned that not all young people
have good access to computers in their schools or at home, meaning too much emphasis on
technology could set up educational inequalities.
So is there a balance to be struck in how we teach children to write For Naveed Idress,
headteacher of Feversham Primary Academy, in Bradford, this is key: making sure we help
children choose the right tool for the task in hand- whether that's a pen, a laptop, or something else.

the heart of the ancient Silk Road in Gansu Province 57 (know) as the"Daughter of

第二节(满分25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At nine years old, I had been through more than the usual amount of excitement and change
for a girl my age. In the past few months, my stable and predictable life had been turned upside
down when my father, who was a nurse, was laid off from his job at a local hospital. This set into
motion a series of events, including my parents losing our beautiful Victorian home and forcing
our family into a fifteen-foot pull trailer(拖车) we had previously only used for weekend camping
trips. My parents also withdrew me from my private school and began homeschooling my brother
and me.
Life in the trailer was tough. I was infected scarlet fever and felt sicker than ever before.
Our family of four lived in a cramped trailer, where even sitting together on the small couch- my
parents' bed at night- caused the front end to tilt(倾斜), forcing someone to rush forward to
balance it. Parking options decreased, and we eventually had to settle in our church's
parking lot.
Life grew increasingly bitter. I recall my mom's screams when a gray mouse scurried across
the floor and under the stove. One day, she sat at the tight table and made out a shopping list
while the last of our food, fried chicken, sizzled on the stove top. "We need to pray," she said
aloud. "We don' t have enough food to last the week." And so, we joined hands and asked God
to provide not only food but all our pressing needs. Then Mom got up and started putting the
chicken on a plate for dinner. I opened the tiny door and let the smell of dinner follow me as I
wandered outside to find my dad. He was working on our broken-down truck. As Dad leaned
over the engine, I noticed a disheveled(蓬头垢面的) man walking up to our humble abode.
"Can I help you, sir " Dad asked kindly.
The man replied, "I'm hungry. Do you have any food to spare " I glanced at Dad, aware of
our limited supplies.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Without hesitation, he cheerfully said,S u r e !
The next morning, three brown paper bags sat near the trailer's drop-down step.
