Have you ever heard of a plant that can eat insects The Venus Flytrap is one of the most amazing plants in the world. It is a carnivorous plant, which means it eats meat—usually small insects like flies and ants.
The Venus Flytrap grows in the wetlands of North and South Carolina in the United States. It has leaves that look like small traps. Each leaf has two parts, and on the edges of each part, there are small, sharp hairs. Inside the leaf, there are three small hairs that act as triggers.
When an insect lands on the leaf and touches one of the trigger hairs, nothing happens. But if the insect touches two trigger hairs, or touches one hair twice in a short time, the leaf closes quickly—like a trap closing. The sharp hairs on the edges of the leaf lock together, so the insect can't escape.
Once the leaf is closed, the Venus Flytrap starts to digest (消化) the insect. It releases special juices that break down the insect's body into nutrients. The plant absorbs these nutrients to help it grow. After about 10 to 14 days, the leaf opens again, and the leftover parts of the insect, like the exoskeleton (外骨骼) fall out. The leaf is then ready to catch another insect.
The Venus Flytrap is a very special plant, but it is also in danger. Its natural habitat is being destroyed by humans. People are building houses and roads on the wetlands where the plant grows. Also, some people dig up the plants to sell them as houseplants. This is illegal in some places, but it still happens.
Scientists and conservationists (自然保护主义者) are working hard to protect the Venus Flytrap. They are creating protected areas where the plant can grow safely. They are also teaching people about the importance of this amazing plant and why we need to protect it.
If we don't take action to protect the Venus Flytrap, it might disappear forever. We should all do our part to protect the plants and animals that share our planet.
( ) 31. What does the Venus Flytrap eat
A. Fruits. B. Small animals. C. Other plants. D. Small insects.
( ) 32. Where does the Venus Flytrap grow
A. In the deserts of Africa. B. In the mountains of Europe.
C. In the rain forests of South America. D. In the wetlands of North and South Carolina.
( ) 33. How does the Venus Flytrap catch insects
A. Its leaves close when the trigger hairs are touched. B. It uses its roots to catch insects.
C. It releases a sweet smell to attract insects. D. It flies to catch insects.
( ) 34. How long does it take for the Venus Flytrap to digest an insect
A. About 1 to 2 days. B. About 5 to 7 days. C. About 10 to 14 days. D. About 20 to 25 days.
( ) 35. Why is the Venus Flytrap in danger
Because there are too many insects for it to eat.
B. Because its natural habitat is being destroyed and people dig it up.
C.Because the climate is getting too cold for it to grow.
D. Because it can't digest insects anymore.

Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendships back. That is why some friendships don't last very long. 41 You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous; be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don't tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven't been honest, you may lose your friend's trust. 42
Generosity means sharing, and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don't have to give your lunch money or your clothes, of course. Instead, you have to learn how to share things you enjoy, like your hobbies and interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. 43 They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later, everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. 44 So to be a friend, you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend's place so you can understand the problem better.
45 But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must be honest, be generous and be understanding.
A.To have a friend, you must learn to be a friend. B. A friend will never forget you. C. No two friendships are ever exactly similar. D. Turning to a friend can be the first step in solving the problem. E. These can be valuable to a friend. F. Good friends always trust one another to speak and act honestly. G. Keeping friendship last long is easy for all of us.
