When I was younger, my mom had a collection of self-help books. My dad tried to prevent her from buying more. To support my mom’s interest, my brother and I would sneak in(偷偷摸摸拿进来) the new books she wanted to read, without my dad noticing.
Now as an adult, I find myself continuing a similar personal growth journey, reading self-improvement books and blogs on my Kindle. But must we try so hard to push ourselves Is it better to sometimes just be okay with who we are Finding the right balance(平衡) is key. Here are some simple suggestions on how to do that.
Make real goals
It’s good to want to get better at things, but you need to have clear goals, not just wishes. Like, instead of just wanting a new job, plan how to get one and celebrate small wins along the way.
Don’t compare yourself to others
It’s hard, but remember: Comparing yourself to others won’t help you improve. Instead, it keeps you from growth. Everyone’s journey is different, and there’s room for everyone to succeed.
Think about what’s really important
It’s great to have goals, but pay attention to what truly matters. Stick to dreams that are meaningful and reachable, like finishing a novel or improving your health. What’s on your mind today
Know your limits
We all have things we’re good and not so good at. It’s okay not to be perfect at everything. Accepting this lets you spend more time on what you really love doing.
( ) 66. Why did the writer and his brother sneak in the new books
A. Because they didn’t want their dad to see.
B. Because their dad would throw them away.
C. Because they wanted to surprise their mom.

( ) 69. If you plan to find a better job, what is the right thing to do

( ) 70. What is the best title for this passage
A. How to Be Perfect in Everything You Do.
B. Finding Balance(平衡) in Self-Improvement.
C. Do Whatever You Like and Be Whoever You Want.

Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August, driver-less taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
Why do we develop self-driving cars Self-driving cars have many advantages(优点). They use computers with many cameras which can sense all the objects close to the car and give the computers another route(路线). Then the car can take people to the places where they want to go. For disabled or blind people, self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily.
According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world. It’s reported that self-driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90 percent. The main cause of car accidents is human error(错误). By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do.
But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react(反应) as fast as a human driver can. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self-driving cars wouldn’t see the lines on the road easily. It might lead to an accident. The car’s computer system would be broken by someone, causing it to crash or change its direction.
It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars a common and safe sight on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen.

C. How to deal with the traffic accidents.

Scientists have found that 80 million sharks are killed every year in fishing, even though there are rules 1 them. This number has gone up from 76 million in 2012 to over 80 million in 2017. Sadly, 25 million of these sharks are the kinds that are in danger of 2 .
Researchers looked at fishing data from 150 countries and talked to experts to find out these numbers. They found that even shark finning (cutting off fins and throwing the rest of the shark away) was not allowed by laws right now, the number of sharks 3 hasn’t gone down.
Sharks are often caught for their fins, and sometimes they get caught by accident when fishers are trying to catch other fish. A report from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) shows that the market of the shark trade, 6 meat and fins, has grown a lot, from $157 million in 2000 to about $2.6 billion recently.
Scientists 7 that more needs to be done to save sharks, not just by only paying attention to finning but by making rules to cut down the number of sharks being killed, stopping fishing for sharks in some important shark areas, and 8 more people on how valuable living sharks can be to the ecosystem in the ocean.
The researchers say that everyone can help save sharks. People can 9 buying things like shark teeth souvenirs, say no to eating shark meat (which is sometimes called huss or rock salmon), and use beauty products that don’t hurt sharks.

Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. 1 If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here is some advice for you to bridge the generation gap(代沟).
2 Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your idea. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go to someplace to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise(妥协). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. 3 Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise — Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days. Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. If that happens, it is very important to show love and respect(尊重) to them. 4
Talk about your values(价值观). The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about and why. 5

B. Don’t argue with your parents.
C. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
D. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages.

Imagine your brain is like a busy city, with different areas that each have their own jobs to do, such as thinking, dreaming, and even playing your favorite sports or video games. Now, scientists have uncovered something fascinating in this busy city of our brain: special places called “emotional centers.” These areas light up and become active no matter what language we speak, showing us that the way we feel emotions(情感) is something everyone shares, no matter where they’re from.
Emotions like happiness, sadness, fear, and excitement are feelings we all experience. But have you ever wondered how our brains process these emotions Recent research has showed that there are certain places in our brains, which researchers are calling “emotional hubs,” where all these feelings come to life. These hubs work the same way in everyone’s brain, which is an amazing discovery because it suggests that no matter if you’re speaking Chinese, English, or any other language, our brains feel emotions in the same way.
Understanding that there are emotional hubs in our brains helps scientists and doctors in many ways. For example, it can improve how we treat emotional and mental health problems. If we know where emotions come from in the brain, doctors can develop better treatments for people who might feel too sad or too worried.
This discovery also teaches us something important about being human. It shows that deep down, we’re all quite similar. We all experience joy at a friend’s success, sadness during a sad movie, or fear when we hear a scary story. These emotional hubs in our brains remind us that no matter where we live or what language we speak, we all share the same human experiences.
Scientists are excited about this discovery because it opens up new ways for research. They’re interested in looking into how these emotional hubs work and how they connect with other parts of the brain. This could lead to even more fascinating discoveries about how we think, feel, and communicate with the world around us.
Understanding Our Brain’s Feelings
Discovering the heart of emotion in our brains Scientists have found the special areas in the brain that 1 feelings and they work the same for everyone.
The common language of emotion These special areas which 2 “emotional hubs” show that all people feel emotions in a similar way, no matter what language they speak.
Why does this 3 Understanding these areas helps doctors figure out how to help people with emotional and mental health problems.
Bringing us together This tells us the 4 of our feelings across different cultures, showing how emotions connect us all as part of the human family.
The future of emotional research Learning how this part of our brain works will help scientists 5 study how we think, feel and communicate with each other.

The Sisters' Meal Festival
The Sisters' Meal Festival is celebrated by the Miao people, who mainly live in Guizhou province of China. It's often called "the oldest Asian Valentine's Day" and takes place around mid-April every year.
During this festival, young Miao women prepare colorful rice that is colored with things from natural plants, then shape it into different forms like flowers or birds. These rice dishes are put in beautiful silk cloths and offered to young men. The men receive the rice, and depending on what's hidden inside—such as red chili or a pine needle—it can show the woman's feelings. For example, two chopsticks in the rice mean love and acceptance, while a garlic clove means the girl says no.
What’s more, the festival also includes singing competitions, traditional dances, and colorful clothes that tell you a lot about Miao culture. It’s a beautiful mix of being loved, being together, and holding on to their tradition.
