Language Points
1.You’re supposed to shake hands.
be supposed to后接动词原形,相当于should或ought to,用来表示劝告、建议、义务、责任等。其否定形式为be not supposed to,意为“不应该”。
e. g. We are supposed to help each other.
= We should help each other. = We ought to help each other.
Language points
【拓展】suppose表示“认为, 推断”时, 其后常接宾语从句, 它的近义词为think, regard, consider。在宾语从句中其否定要前移(主语多为第一人称)。
e. g. I don’t suppose you are right. 我认为你错了。
特别提醒: 当主语是“物”时, be supposed to意为“本应该”,用来表示“某事本应该发生而没有发生”。
e.g. The meeting was supposed to take place on Tuesday, but we had to put it off.
会议本应该在周二召开的, 但我们不得不把它推迟了。

expect v. 预料; 期待
expect为及物动词, 后接名词、动词不定式或that从句。其常见搭配有:
expect sb. / sth. 等待(期待)某人 / 某物
expect (sb.) to do sth. 期望(某人)做某事
expect + that从句 预料/期望......
e. g. I expect an exciting trip. 我期待一次令人兴奋的旅行。
I expect him to be a successful writer. 我期望他会成为一名成功的作家。
I expect that the weather will be sunny. 我预料天气将会是晴朗的。
