How to Learn English in Class
Our group had a good discussion about "How to Learn English in Class". We agreed on three useful ways.
First, join class activities actively. Things like role-plays, group talks and English games are great. They let us use English in real time. Second, don’t be afraid to speak. It’s okay to make mistakes. When we talk, teachers can help fix our errors, and we’ll feel more confident. Third, take clear notes. Write down key words, grammar rules and helpful sentences. Looking at them after class helps us remember well.
If we do these things, we can learn English better in class.

1. 【原文】W: Adam, I heard there’s a new girl in your class. What’s she like
M: She’s tall and thin. She has long brown hair and big green eyes. And she wears glasses.
2. 【原文】M: What are you learning in school right now, Jennifer
W: We’re learning to make sculptures, Dad! It’s amazing. I can now make a beautiful sculpture out of nothing. Next, we will learn how to take good pictures. Then we will learn how to draw.
3. 【原文】M: If you don’t practice, you won’t get any better.
W: But it’s very hard work!
M: Don’t you want to be the best
4. 【原文】M: Have you seen the new girl in school She’s really pretty. She has lovely light brown eyes.
W: Well, how tall is she
M: She’s about five feet, even taller than me. She is very nice to everyone.
5. M: Sarah, you made some mistakes. There are 50 questions, but you got 10 answers wrong.
W: Oh, Mr. Brown. I will be more careful next time.
6-7【原文】W: Want to go to the cinema
M: I can’t. I’m up to my neck in school work.
W: Won’t it wait
M: I’m afraid not. It’s the last of my exams tomorrow.
W: Oh, I finished mine yesterday.
M: Most people did but I have an extra one — advanced math.
W: Oh yes, you’re good at that, aren’t you
M: Maybe, but I still need to revise.
W: What days were your exams on
M: Biology on Monday, physics on Tuesday, and chemistry on Wednesday, then I’ve got this one tomorrow.
W: Oh well, good luck.
M: Thanks. Let’s go to the cinema another time.
8-9【原文】M: Hello, Cindy. Are you an English
W: No, I’m not. My parents are from Poland, but they got married in Germany and have worked there ever since. So I grew up there.
M: Why did you come to Beijing
W: I always wanted to go to study abroad. I considered going to America or China, and I finally chose China because I was really interested in Chinese culture.
M: How long have you been in this city
W: For almost 10 months. I’m really enjoying my time here.
10-12【原文】W: Hello. I’m Mary. Are you new here
M: Yes. I moved to this neighborhood last week. And you can call me Robert.
W: Hello, Robert. Where did you come from
M: Phoenix.
W: Why did you come to Los Angeles
M: I was offered a good job here. So here I am. What do you do for a living, Mary
W: I teach maths in a middle school. And I have been living in this neighborhood for many years and know many people. If you want to know more people, I can introduce you to them.
M: That will be great. I really look forward to making some new friends here.
W: Then how about coming to my party this weekend I’ll introduce my friend, Karen, to you. She’s a funny New Yorker.
M: OK. Thank you for inviting me.
13-16【原文】W: OK, so our topic for the presentation is bees. How many main points do we have
M: Three.
W: There’s a lot of information, but we only have eight minutes.
M: I think we can organize the whole presentation.
W: Should we start by showing that bees are an important natural resource They help plants reproduce. Without bees, a lot of crops would be more expensive to grow.
M: Let’s make that clear so people understand why we all need bees.
W: Now, I found a report that says a lot of bees are dying right now. The report has a lot of statistics about population numbers. Should we use that
M: Well, I’m worried those statistics might be confusing. Mr. Lee said we have to show that we’ve done some research, and that’s important for our grades.
W: OK. Maybe we could just put some of the statistics in a diagram.
M: Let’s do that. And we could show some photos of bees.
W: Good idea.
M: So for the last part, I made a list of what people can do to help bees.
17-20 【原文】Hi, my name is Jack. I like my senior high school life. I’m a Grade 10 student. I’d like to talk about my courses. On Mondays, I have four classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon. The first class is math. I like math. It’s easy. There are twenty-three students in my math class, including a few exchange students who come from different nations. Chemistry is a bit boring, and there are twenty students in that class. The teacher likes to wear formal clothes and he looks nice. My English class is small. Our English teacher always gives great lectures and I think it’s fun to speak English. Science is the biggest class. There are thirty students in that class — twenty male students and ten female students. Science is very hard, though. Each class, we have a test. I don’t like that! The first class in the afternoon is physics and I like it best. The last class of the day is music, and we are active in that class.高2025级秋期高一三分之一考试

I was said to be the worst student in my class and my family thought I was hopeless. I had to repeat the sixth grade. At that time a new teacher, Miss Sadia, came to our school.
One day after class, she noticed that I was staying alone during the lunch break. She came to me and began to talk to me. It was just a normal conversation: After that day, she gave me much attention and it made me feel special. I started to go all out because she gave me the feeling that someone believed me, and my grades started to improve in her subject.
Months later, she moved into a house near my home. We would walk home together after starting school. Her constant support helped me, especially in my studies, as I knew she would check my grades both in her subject and the other subjects. I finally came second in my class.
Then, after the sixth grade, she started to drift apart but still kept a check on me. By the time I was in the seventh grade, she hardly spoke to me, but by then I had become the best in my class. When I left school, I was out of touch with her as she never answered the phone when I called her.
Then I graduated and went to a good university. One fine day, our paths crossed again. I met her at a wedding. I could not help asking her,“Why did you stop talking to me ”
“You are a clever boy. I wanted you to be a tree standing on your own roots not depending on others. Now here you are and I feel proud of you. You are your inspiration and do not need to look for a shoulder,” she said. I could not say anything, but I smiled. I’ll always thank her.
What can we know about the author in his first sixth grade
A. He did very badly in his studies. B. He found his teacher the worst.
C. He didn’t talk with his parents. D. He was hopeful about his future.
What made the author decide to work hard?
An unusual conversation.
His previous teacher’s support.
His parents encouragement.
Miss Sadia’s special attention.
What does the underlined phrase “drift apart” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean
A. Be more friendly. B. Get angry.
C. Move away. D. Become less close.
Why did Miss Sadia stop talking to the author
A. Because she just disliked talking to him.
B. Because she wanted him to grow independent
C. Because she was too busy with her own wedding.
D. Because she had no way to get in touch with him.

Learning a new language can be a big challenge at any age; however, it seems to be especially difficult to master a foreign tongue as we age.
When we are growing up, we are building a language system in our mind, which allows us to communicate freely. If we start a new language after youth, however, we are adding a new set of rules to our mind. That is why we find it difficult to learn a new language—we’re building a new speech system when we are not young any more. Why is it easier for kids to learn a new language Children are relatively more active, open-minded and their language system is not fixed, meaning it is less work for them to pick up new things.
The good news is that learning a language isn’t really that hard if you’re opening your mind. But it does take hard work and motivation to achieve your goals.
It’s important to remember what you’re actually learning is how to communicate in a new way with other human beings. If you often share your daily experience with others in that language, what you’re learning is related to you. For example, if I’m learning Italian, I would never remember how to say “Dove e la biblioteca ” or “Where is the library ” but I will always remember how to say “Ti piace il caffe ” or “Do you like some coffee ”
In addition, TV shows, films and video games in foreign languages are all great forms of entertainment for learning a new language. Anything that relates you to the language and culture is great, so long as you find it enjoyable.
Adding a single new word to your vocabulary can be interesting and rewarding. The road to fluency can be hard, but the view along the way is really amazing, so it’s OK if you are driving slowly.
What affects language learning according to the first paragraph
A. Money. B. Age. C. Mind. D. Work.
What can we infer about language learning from paragraph 2
A. Adults can pick up new things quickly.
B. Children have a fixed language system.
C. Adults find the new rules easy to remember.
D. Children are better at learning a language than adults.
What is helpful for learning a language according to paragraphs 4 and 5
A. Using it in daily life. B. Playing video games.
C. Going to the library. D. Taking down its rules.
What may be the best title for the passage
A. How to Build up Your Vocabulary
B. Language Learning: Chance or Challenge
C. Why do Children Learn Faster Than Adults
D. Is It too Late to Master a Foreign Language

ChatGPT, a smart AI chat-bot tool, has swept the education world in the past months. According to a US survey of more than 1,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with a homework task.
Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT is a powerful tool. You can ask it to write stories and emails, create a food menu, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions.
Some schools in the US, Australia and France have banned (禁止) the use of ChatGPT. In the US, for example, New York City public schools banned students and teachers from using ChatGPT on the district’s networks and facilities, CNN reported.
The move comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat on study. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread wrong information.
“It does not build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for academic and lifelong success,” said Jenna Lyle, the deputy press secretary of the New York City Department of Education.
Apart from bans, teachers are making changes to their classes to stop the use of ChatGPT. Some college teachers in the US try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of typed ones, The New York Times reported.
However, not all educators say “no”to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are drafting (起草) policies on its use, for both students and teachers. They have no plans to completely ban the tool so far.
Bhaskar Vira, headmaster for education at the University of Cambridge in the UK, said that bans on AI software like ChatGPT are not wise. “We have to know that AI is a tool people will use,” he told Varsity, the school newspaper of the university. What we need to do is “adapt (调整) our learning, teaching and examinations”. That way, we can “have honesty while recognizing the use of the tool”.
Some schools in the US banned the use of ChatGPT because____________.
A. it probably takes the place of teachers
B. students may use it to cheat on homework
C. it rarely provides the correct information
D. it takes up most of the district’s networks
Jenna Lyle thinks that___________.
A. ChatGPT is necessary for academic and lifelong success
B. using ChatGPT is not good for developing students’ minds
C. ChatGPT is so far the smartest AI chat-bot tool
D. ChatGPT might offer the wrong information
Which opinion is NOT mentioned in the story
A. Using ChatGPT makes students lazy in thinking.
B. The complete ban on using ChatGPT is not wise.
C. ChatGPT will completely change present education.
D. ChatGPT may be used for both teachers and students.
The passage is probably from “____________”.
A. Sports and Fitness B. Health and Diet
C. Cultural Exchange D. Science and Education

How to Build a Good Relationship With Your Parents
As a senior high school student, you are at a stage where building a good relationship with your parents becomes more important than ever before. Here are some tips to help you achieve that.
Firstly, communicate openly. 36 Don’t keep your feelings hidden. Let them know what you are thinking and experiencing at school, whether it’s about your academic pressure, friendship issues, or future plans. Honest communication can avoid misunderstandings and help your parents understand you better.
Secondly, listen carefully. When your parents are talking to you, put away your phone and give them your full attention. 37 Try to understand their opinions, even if you don’t agree with them at first. This shows respect and makes them feel valued.
Thirdly, show appreciation. 38 A simple “thank you” when they cook a meal for you or help you with your studies can go a long way. Small acts of gratitude can strengthen the bond between you and your parents.
Fourthly, share responsibilities. 39 Helping with household chores, like washing the dishes or taking out the trash, not only eases their burden but also makes them see that you are growing up and becoming responsible.
Finally, make time for family activities. 40 It could be watching a movie together on weekends, going for a walk in the park, or having a family game night. These shared experiences create memories and bring you closer.
In conclusion, if you follow these tips, you can improve your relationship with your parents and enjoy a more harmonious family life during your senior high school years.
A. It could be as simple as a hug or a compliment.
B. You might have different opinions, but listen first.
C. For example, you can talk to them every day after dinner.
