A good conversation happens when people are asking each other the right kinds of questions and then giving the right answers. Let's take a look at four different types of questions you can use in a conversation.
Type①:The Open-ended Question
An open-ended question is a question that cannot be answered with “yes” or “no”. The opposite is a close-ended question. Close-ended questions always end the conversation. An open-ended question allows you to learn more about the other person and gives you something to reply to.
Type②:The Follow-up Question
When it comes to conversations, a follow-up question is something that is asked based on what the other person already said. In order to ask a good follow-up question, you need to listen carefully. Follow-up questions keep the conversation moving and show the other person you were listening to what they said.
Type③:The Clarifying(澄清)Question
When do you need to ask a clarifying question There are two situations. First, that is when the information you heard was unclear. And second, that is when you are having trouble understanding what the speaker is trying to express. A clarifying question can be open-ended or close-ended.
Type④:The Superlative(最高级的)Question
Questions, like “What is the best trip you've ever taken ” or “What's your most unforgettable thing ” really let you learn more about the person you're having a conversation with.
( )23. What do you need to do to ask a good follow-up question
A.Add our own ideas.
B.Listen to the speaker carefully.
C.Answer an open-ended question.
D.Keep the conversation moving.
( )24.When do you need to ask a clarifying question
A.When the information is very clear.
B.When we are trying to start talking.
C.When we want to reply to a close-ended question.

Plants are rooted (扎根) in one place. They can't turn away from danger or walk over the sunny side of the garden. So they have to develop some special ways to protect themselves and grow in the nature.
Some scientists found that plants can sense their surroundings (环境). You’ve all seen plants grow towards light which is called phototropism. Even if the tops of them are cut off, the plants don't change the direction. They sense the light and tell the rest of the plants how to grow then.
Some plants “talk” with each other by using “airmail” to warn each other of danger. Researchers in England cut the leaves of cabbages. The cabbages then produce a tiny number of chemicals that protect themselves from some insects. Strangely, the cabbages which aren't cut nearby also begin to give off their own different chemicals. That means they seem to receive a warning from their cabbage neighbours.
Most amazingly, plants have a great system of communication that can connect nearly every plant in a forest by fungi. It connects the roots of different plants to each other. Scientists call the system the “wood wide web”, similar to the Internet we use. Using the network, plants can communicate and share information and even food with each other.
Whatever the case is, plants are stranger and more wonderful than we can imagine.

Are you good at showing your ideas clearly China Youth Daily did a survey. More than 1,300 young people took part in it. 60% of them completed their study at university.
In the survey,47.1% people said their verbal skills(语言能力)were poor and 41.5% said it was difficult to talk with people at work. Chen Chen, a 28-year-old manager from Beijing, found that it was difficult to talk with people at work. “People don't like to describe problems with exact words," he said. "They often use vague words, such as 'this isn't right' or 'check it again'.”
“Fewer young people can show their ideas clearly," said Guo Xiao'an. He is a Doctor of Language at Chongqing University. “Many young people's vocabulary grows larger with the new words from the internet. They use these words more often in their daily life. As a result, they are not good at using traditional words.”
The survey also asked why their verbal skills were poor. 54% thought that's because they read too little. More than half said they used internet memes(网络热梗)and stickers(表情包)too often. This made them have nothing more to say when they talked to people.

It is easier to agree than to disagree. The following tips can help people solve disputes (争端).
Don't make it personal.
If you get upset, it can help to remember that you're mad at the person's idea, not the person.
Never criticize (批评) the others' ideas.
You'd better not say “That's a stupid idea.” Try “I don't really agree, and here is why.” Never shout loudly and you will have a much better chance of getting your idea across.
Use “I” statements (陈述) to communicate how you feel and what you think.
Using “you” statements can sound argumentative (好争论的). For example, telling your mum “You always remind me about my chores when I have a lot of homework.” has a very different tone (语气) from “I’m under pressure because I have a lot of homework tonight. Can I do those chores tomorrow ”
Listen to the other point of view.
When the other person is talking, try to stop thinking about why you disagree or what you will say next. Instead, focus on what is being said. When it is your turn to talk, repeat any key points the other person made to show you have paid attention to what was said. Then express why you disagree.
Stay calm.
This is the most important thing you can do to make a conversation go on well.
37. What can these tips do according to the text
