Eliza, 17, a music performance student at Bexhill College, has been named among the 39 finalists for the Global Youth Awards 2025. She previously took singing lessons in Broad Oak with local vocal coach Laura Westcott, saying the experience was life-changing. “I've been loving this year and what it brings—it allows me to explore myself through music,” she said. “This is just the beginning, and I'm excited to grow more with every performance, through the highs and the lows.”
Laura Westcott is a classically trained singer and journalist who turned her own struggles with stage fright and anxiety into a force for good in the music community. After earning a degree in music and performing, she redirected her experience toward helping others by founding Music For Mental Wealth in 2017. The organization creates safe spaces for young artists to share the emotional meaning behind their songs while promoting open dialogue about mental health, helping them gain confidence and emotional balance.
“Eliza was always full of creative energy and purpose,” Laura said. “Her songwriting comes from a place of honesty, and she's learning to trust her own voice—that's where the magic happens.”
Now in its 13th year, the Global Youth Awards honour young people aged 11-25 making positive change across fields such as climate action, mental health, education, and the arts. This year's forest-themed event introduces a new Songwriting Competition Award, spotlighting music as a tool for unity and social impact.
Tanith Harding, CEO of The Legacy Project, which runs the awards, said: “This year's finalists have already achieved so much, proving that compassion (同情), creativity, and innovation are the bases of true leadership.”
For communities across East Sussex area, Eliza's success is a proud reflection of the musical talent being locally cared for and protected while they are growing and developing—proof that even from small villages like Broad Oak, young voices can reach a global stage.
24. What can be inferred about Laura Westcott's organization

AI-generated faces are becoming more and more common. Spotting a fake face created by AI might sound like a job for advanced algorithms (算法), but research suggests humans can learn to do it surprisingly well with just five minutes of training.
A study from the University of Reading found that a brief training showing people common flaws (瑕疵) in AI-generated faces boosted detection rates significantly. Additionally, the research revealed that most people without training perform worse when trying to identify AI-generated faces, often perceiving them as more realistic than actual human photographs.
The findings offer a practical solution to a growing security threat. AI-generated faces have already been used to create fake social media accounts, and as the technology improves, the potential for cheating and misinformation grows.
The study tested 664 participants, including people with exceptional face recognition abilities called super-recognizers. All participants viewed faces created by StyleGAN3, the most advanced face-generation system available at the time of data collection. The AI-generated images were paired with real photographs. Without training, typical participants scored just 42% accuracy when asked to identify which of two faces was AI-generated. Super-recognizers fared better at 54%, but still showed room for improvement.
The training intervention was remarkably simple. Researchers showed participants examples of minor flaws that AI systems sometimes leave in generated images. These included oddly rendered hair, unusual numbers of teeth, or strange transitions where facial features meet the background. Participants then completed ten practice trials and received immediate feedback (反馈) on whether their answers were correct. After that, super-recognizers jumped to 64% accuracy, performing significantly better than chance. Typical participants also improved substantially, getting rid of the tendency to perceive fake faces as more real than real ones.
For now, the message is clear: humans aren't helpless against AI-generated faces. With just a few minutes of instruction on what to look for, people can significantly improve their ability to spot fakes in an increasingly digital world.
28. What do untrained people think of AI-generated faces according to the research
A. They are unreliable. B. They have obvious flaws.
C. They are more realistic. D. They can be identified easily.
29. Which word has the closest meaning to “fared” in paragraph 4
A. Emerged. B. Conveyed. C. Performed. D. Represented.
30. What does paragraph 5 mainly talk about
A. Steps of recognizing fake faces. B. Examples of minor flaws in images.
C. The effectiveness of the experiment. D. The method and effect of intervention.
31. What's the best title for the text
A. Brief Training Boosts False Face Detection
B. The unrealistic Realism of AI-generated Faces
C. AI-generated Faces: A Growing Security Threat
D. Super-Recognizers: A Practical Solution

The world is full of interesting paradoxes (悖论). Perhaps one of the biggest paradoxes, however, is how can a frog get smaller as it grows up Meet the paradox frog, found in South America and Trinidad. Its name comes from its strange life cycle—a giant tadpole (蝌蚪) turns into a little frog.
Specifically, the tadpoles of the paradox frog are three to four times larger than the adults. While tadpoles can grow up to 22 cm long, the adult frogs are only 8 cm long. Several other species of frogs also undergo this unusual size change, but the paradox frog holds the record for having the longest tadpoles. So, how do the giant tadpoles turn into such little frogs Easy At least half of the frog's tail is tail. If the tail lose, this tadpole turns into a normal, relatively small adult, with a body length of around 7cm.
These animals possess a wide range of adaptations which help them to live in the water. The eyes and nose sit near the front of the head which allows them to sit just below the water's surface while still breathing.
They live and produce young ones in and around a variety of still-water habitats. Some eggs are laid in permanent pools, while others are laid in more temporary ponds that will later dry up. Those laid in smaller, temporary waters, with less food or more aquatic predators (水生捕食者), don't get to grow so big. But those laid in larger, more permanent ponds, with more food and fewer predators, do. In this situation, being big may aid survival, as the fish and other animals that eat smaller tadpoles are less likely to take a bite.
In some localized populations they are affected by habitat loss from expanding farming operations and human settlement. Small numbers are collected to supply the international pet trade. In general, however, the population of the paradox frog is considered stable and the species is relatively common across its range.
32. What phenomenon does the author point out in paragraph 1
A. A small tadpole turns into a frog. B. A species breaks growth laws of nature.
C. Frog s widely spreads in America. D. The truth often goes against expectation.
33. What is mainly discussed about the paradox frog in paragraph 2
A. Its unusual growth pattern. B. Its difference from tadpoles.
C. Its normal body structure. D. Its wide range of length.
34. What is the benefit for the paradox tadpoles growing so large
A. To attract the animals they feed on. B. To make themselves more noticeable.
C. To keep their weight at a perfect level. D. To reduce the risk of being eaten.
35. What can we learn about the paradox frog from the last paragraph
A. It is declining in general population. B. It is a relatively stable species.
C. It is a threat to the environment. D. It largely relies on man-made habitats.

When we think of sports, what usually pops into our heads Championship rings Gold medals While all of that represents “success”, there's something even more powerful behind every great athlete and team: sportsmanship (体育精神). 36 Sometimes, the most memorable victories happen not on the scoreboard, but in how we treat our teammates, opponents (对手), and the spirit of the game itself. Let's dive into why sportsmanship is the true measure of success in sports.
37 What is sportsmanship In simple terms, it's how you behave before, during, and after a game or competition. It's about respect. It shows up in the way you handle wins with modesty and losses with grace.
Ever heard the phrase, “It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game ” 38 Imagine two athletes. One wins a match and laughs at their opponent. The other loses but goes out of their way to congratulate the winner. Who do you admire more
Let's think about it—what's the point of playing if respect go out the window 39 It turns into a battlefield fueled by selfishness (自私) and attack, not respect and love for the sport. The truth is, poor sportsmanship can ruin the whole experience.
There's one place where sportsmanship has incredible power—youth sports. Kids can learn life lessons that'll shape their values—things like teamwork, fairness and handling pressure. And when coaches, parents, and teammates emphasize sportsmanship, they're helping create well-rounded individuals, not just good athletes. Young players truly begin to understand that how they treat others is just as important as how they play. 40
A. That's what makes you respected.
B. It's not all about champions and records.
C. This victory runs deeper than any scoreboard.
D. Before we go any further, let's break this down.
E. When athletes forget sportsmanship, the game suffers.
F. True sportsmanship doesn't mean you don't fight seriously.
G. In fact, those early lessons often stick far beyond the playing field.

I still remember the first day of art class. Sarah sat by the window, her fingers skillfully shaping a piece of clay (陶土) into a beautiful bird. “Incredible,” I whispered. I'm Tom, who had just transferred to this school. Feeling like an outsider, I was drawn to Sarah's passion, which was so similar to my own love for painting. I gathered my courage and showed her a painting of my own. To my surprise, her eyes lit up. “That's amazing, Tom” she said. From that day on, we became inseparable best friends.
However, everything changed when the school art competition was announced. The winner would receive a full scholarship to a famous art summer camp. Both Sarah and I decided to enter. We promised to support each other, no matter the outcome. But as the deadline neared, Sarah spent less time with me. I felt a growing distance between us. One afternoon, I saw her talking quietly with Mr. Davis, our art teacher, pointing at my half-finished painting. A bad thought came into my mind: “Was she trying to ruin my chances by asking the teacher for secret help ” The seed of misunderstanding was planted.
The day before the submission (提交), I stayed late to put the final touches on my painting. As I left, I saw a beautiful, finished sculpture on Sarah's desk—a dancer so lifelike that it almost took my breath away. A mix of admiration and bitter jealousy (嫉妒) washed over me. The next morning, chaos erupted in the art room. Sarah's sculpture was lying on the floor, breaking into many pieces. She was crying sadly. Everyone was looking for the trouble-maker. My heart sank when Mr. Davis asked where I had been last night. Remembering my late stay, I froze. Seeing my panic, Sarah looked at me, her eyes filled with not just sadness, but held a look of blame. I couldn't form any words to defend myself.
For two days, we didn't speak. The weight of her unspoken blame was crushing me. I couldn't focus on my studies or my winning painting. Finally, I couldn't bear it anymore.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Sarah, I need to talk to you,” I said, my voice trembling (颤抖). ___________________________________
