Nestled in the heart of a mountain village in China’s Guizhou province, there is a unique ecological family farm. It is run by Kevin Cillen, a 28-year-old Belgian who is passionate about the land. With his parents and siblings, they have combined Western farming techniques with local countryside practices to cultivate an “ecological oasis”.
The family’s pursuit of their farming dream in China began in 2000, when Kevin’s mother Hetty Cillen visited China as a volunteer for the first time. The fascinating landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guizhou fascinated her, causing her to make this foreign country her home. Soon after, his father Patrick Jan Cillen joined her. In 2017, the family rented a plot amid the forest to establish an ecological farm where they laid the foundation, leveling the land, sowing pastures and rearing lambs and chickens.
The locals have openly embraced the foreigners, inviting them to festivals and celebrating traditional Chinese holidays together. In 2018, Yang Chengkai, a 34-year-old villager, befriended the family, often assisting them on the farm. “The community has embraced this family. Even the vendors at the local market contribute by giving them vegetable scraps for free to feed their livestock.” Yang says.
The family farm, hidden within the dense forest, is proof of Guizhou’s ecological progress. The farm practices diversified grass cultivation for high-quality animal feed, uses solar panels for clean energy and employs rainwater harvesting systems for a stable water supply.
Living in China, the 28-year-old Belgian has witnessed the country’s remarkable changes. He has also seized the opportunities of the Internet and new media to increase the farm’s visibility. Partnering with Qiu Ye, a social media influencer, he has set up accounts like “Kevin’s family in Guizhou” on various platforms. By sharing their daily lives on the farm and the natural beauty of rural China, their content has quickly earned over 700,000 subscribers.

A report from the United Nations said that around 60 million people across the world, with 80% of them in Asia, are drinking polluted (受污染的) water. Some 4,500 children die every day because of polluted water.
A report showed that environmental problems kill 3 million children under five years old each year, making them one of the key contributors in more than 10 million child deaths worldwide each year.
“Dangerous factors (因素) include indoor and outdoor air pollution, water pollution, lack of good hygiene (卫生) facilities and poor ecological systems,” it said.
Another study showed that parents and experts from seven countries including the United States, India and Nigeria, regarded pollution as the biggest threat to children’s natural living environment.
Many parents say that children today are being brought up with fewer blue skies than when they were little kids.
Mrs. Green tries to teach her daughter Susan by setting a personal example. She picks out recyclable (可回收利用的) waste and uses the water from the washing machine to flush the toilet.
Chinese children mostly learn about environmental protection in school.
Some non-governmental organizations and child centers also teach kids to protect the environment. “More parents have become aware of it. Family is now playing a more important role,” says a Chinese official.
Vera Lehmann, an expert from Germany says many Chinese are increasingly aware of pollution. “I was surprised to find how much schools in China are willing to contribute to educating the children about environment,” Lehmann said. “There has been a big change between now and ten years ago when I first traveled here.”
38. What is the main cause of child deaths
A. Pollution water. B. Poor ecological systems.
C. Indoor and outdoor air pollution D. Environmental problems.
39. From the example of Mrs. Green, we can know that she is a woman who _________.
A. is strict with her daughter B. takes good care of her daughter
C. likes housework very much D. pays much attention to recycling
40. Which is right according to the article
A. 80% of the people in Africa are drinking polluted water.
B. Poor ecological systems are one of dangerous factors.
C. The government now plays a more important role in protecting the environment.
D. Some 4,500 children die every day because of polluted air.
41. What’s the best title of the article
A. Teaching children to stay green B. Children today are in poor condition
C. Children died of environmental pollution D. The biggest problem in the world
D
“Do not get the idea that you’re anything special, because you’re not.” This is what English teacher David McCullough told graduating seniors at Wellesley High School. Mothers and fathers present at the ceremony disagreed with McCullough’s words. But lost in the anger and protest was something we really should be taking to heart: our young people actually have no idea whether they’re particularly talented or not. In our eagerness to raise their self-esteem, we forgot to teach them how to realistically assess their own abilities. In fact, it’s not just privileged high-school students; we all tend to view ourselves as above-average. Therefore, it is of vital significance for us to learn and teach our kids how to evaluate ourselves (themselves) objectively.
Inflated (膨胀) self-judgments have been found in study after study, and it’s often exactly when we’re least competent (有能力的) at a given task that we rate our performance most generously. In a 2020 study published in the journal Medical Education, for example, medical students who scored the lowest on an essay test were the most sympathetic in their self-evaluations, while high-scoring students judged themselves much more strictly. Poor learners, the authors note, “lack insight” into their own incapability. Why should this be Another study offers an explanation. People who are incapable suffer from a “dual burden”: they’re not good at what they do, and their incapable prevents them from recognizing how bad they are.
In Dunning’s study, subjects scoring at the bottom on tests of logic, grammar and humor “extremely overestimated” their talents. Although their test scores put them in the 624th, they guessed they were in the 12th. What these individuals lacked was “metacognitive skill” (元认知技巧): the ability to monitor how well (or badly) they’re performing. In the absence of that ability, the subjects arrived at an overly hopeful view of their own abilities.
Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to cope with this problem. First, we can learn to make honest comparisons with others. Train yourself to recognize excellence, even when you yourself don’t possess it, and compare what you can do against what truly excellent individuals are able to accomplish. Second, seek out feedback that is frequent, accurate and specific. Find a critic who will tell you not only how poorly you’re doing, but just what it is that you’re doing wrong.
If we adopt these strategies — and most importantly, teach them to our children — they won’t need parents, or a graduation ceremony speaker, to tell them whether they’re special or not. If they are, they’ll already know that they are. Or they’ll have a plan to get that way.
42. The author thinks the problem that shouldn’t be ignored is that _________.
A. we don’t know whether our young people are talented or not
B young people can’t reasonably define themselves
C. no requirement is set up for young people to get better
D. we always tend to consider ourselves to be privileged
43. We can infer from the passage that those high-scoring students, _________.
A. are not confident about their logic and grammar
B. tend to have overly hopeful view of their own abilities
C. don’t know how well they perform due to their strict self-judgment
D. are more strict in their self-evaluations because of their proper meta cognitive skills
44. The strategies of avoiding overestimation suggest that _________.
A. the best way to recognize excellence is to study past success and failure
B. through comparison with others, one will know where and when he fails
C. we need internal honesty with ourselves and external honesty from others
D. neither parents nor a graduation ceremony speaker can tell whether one is special
45. Which can be the best title of this passage
A. Special or Not Teach Kids To Figure It Out
B. Let’s Admit That, We Are Not That Special
C. Tips On Making Ourselves More Special
D. Tell The Truth: Kids Overestimate their Talents

Just like everyone, I have experienced ups and downs in my life. I am an aerospace engineer from India, I was told by my relatives, close friends and others that it was hard for a non-IT student to pursue a master's degree in IT and graduate from a US university.
I had never taken courses related to computers or programming. I was never interested in being a programmer, but things changed. I became so fascinated with the convenience IT has brought to our life that I made up my mind in chasing a master's degree in IT.
At first, I came across too many difficulties and ing from a middle-class family, the huge cost per credit was a big issue. My English accent was terrible. Most importantly, the course seemed impossible at first. Although I felt so discouraged and frustrated, I never thought of giving up.
Then I decided to choose my university because it promised its students to help them learn practically. During my first month, it was difficult to understand the Americans' accent and finish my assignments. But I never gave in. I walked two miles to the university every day so that I could use my travel money to buy a meal. I started looking for jobs and I got an offer to work as a student assistant, which meant lifting benches and chairs every day.
I took all these challenges as my chances, and I believed that hard work was my strength. Right now I am graduating with a GPA of 3.96/4 and a job offer from a multinational company that has asked me to start right after graduation.
When you have a dream to realize, there is nothing that can stop you. All you need is the diligence and persistence. Hard work always pays off. Having a determined will is also necessary.
46. Why did the author's family and friends say that it was hard for him to pursue a master's degree in IT (no more than 8 words)
47. What does the underlined part in paragraph 2 mean (no more than 5 words)
48. What is the main idea of paragraph 3 (no more than 10 words)

Dear worried,
Learning that you’re feeling anxious and losing your temper due to high school pressures, I completely understand what you’re going through and want to offer some advice.
Firstly, talk to someone you trust about how you feel, which is a good way of letting your anxiety and anger out without hurting others or yourself. Secondly, go outdoors and play team games with your friends as physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of negative emotions. Finally, keep in mind that you should always concentrate yourself on some positive and relaxing things when you feel fed up with academic stress, since it can be helpful in lifting your spirits and gathering up your courage to face those difficulties again.
I hope what I say will be a comfort to you and help you out.
Yours,
Jessica
