阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Car-Free Zone s from Around the World
Let’s take a closer look at some of the world’s most unique car- free zones.
Giethoorn, Netherlands
Given Amsterdam’s obsession with cycling, Giethoorn’s car- free status shouldn’t come as a surprise. The town is located on the northern coast of the Netherlands. Like Amsterdam, small canals run through most of the town— and a large total of 180 bridges allows locals to get around.
Fes el- Bali, Morocco
Fes is one of Morocco’s largest cities. Its old town is known for its winding, ancient and small streets— they almost look like something out of Harry Potter. Because the streets are so small, cars can’t access the busiest streets. Thousands of carless streets wind in the city center, full of local markets, merchants, and shops.
Zermatt, Switzerland
Located high in the Swiss Alps near the country’s tallest mountain (Matterhorn), you’ll find a charming old village called Zermatt. Though it resembles other Alpine towns in terms of size and population, there are no cars. This is the result of some careful city- planning, as locals worked together to protect their view. This historic island has been occupied for centuries— you’ll notice this antiquity (古迹) in its cobbled streets. Given its remote nature, there are no cars allowed.
La Cumbrecita, Argentina
In case you didn’t know, there’s a major Alpine influence in Argentina. This is thanks to the number of central European immigrants who packed up and headed to the country throughout the 20th century. Many sought to recreate elements of their homes in Argentina—particularly its mountainous Calamuchita Valley. This snowy, Alps- inspired town went the way of Zermatt, officially banning cars in order to preserve its quaint (古雅的) charm.
21. Which place might fans of Harry Potter be fond of
A. Giethoorn. B. Fes el-Bali. C. Zermatt. D. La Cumbrecita.
22. For urban scenic preservation, which two countries have cities that ban automobiles
A. Netherlands and Argentina. B. Netherlands and Morocco.
C. Morocco and Switzerland. D. Argentina and Switzerland.
23. In which column of a magazine might this article be found
A. Market Pulse. B. Green Futures. C. Urban Mobility. D. Must-See Spots.

At a summer camp in a Southern California suburb, the grandmas were in charge. Every week, they taught a group of 8-to-14-year-olds life skills like how to cook and sew(缝制).“Loneliness is something that seniors are challenged with, and they love having younger people around them,” said Zainab Hussain, a program manager at Olive Community Services, a nonprofit that hosted the camp to bring teens and elderly adults together.
In the camp, a small room was filled with energy as the kids chatted and chewed on snacks. Some grandmas were around and watched, content to just be around the youngsters.
Haqiqah Abdul Rahim, one of the grandmas serving as the instructor for sewing, said many kids don’t learn these skills at school, so they’re filling in a gap. She stood in front of the room at the start of the activity, holding up various tools and explaining what they were. Rahim also didn’t get to spend a lot of time with her grandchildren because they didn’t live close. “It is heartwarming to be able to interact with those who love being around you,” Rahim said.
The summer camp was held in partnership with the Golden Connections Club, started by14-year-old high school student Leena Albinali. She lived with her grandma but realized other students didn’t have the same opportunity to spend as much time with their grandparents. She also learned about ageism(年龄歧视) and other challenges faced by senior adults in one of her classes.
“They treat us like we’re their grandchildren,” Albinali said. “We share what we know about artificial intelligence and its impact on our lives, and the elders share their life stories and advice. One of the most important things they’ve shared with me is to live in the moment, something that has taken on new meaning for me— The people we have right now are not going to be with us forever.”
24. What is the purpose of the summer camp
A. To teach kids life skills. B. To help seniors fight ageing.
C. To connect generations. D. To educate kids to respect seniors.
25. How does Rahim find her job of teaching sewing in the camp
A. It makes up for the lessons at school. B. It offers future career options to kids.
C. It inspires kids’ interest in her profession. D. It reminds her to contact her grandchildren.
26. What inspired Albinali to set up Golden Connections Club
A. Her school’s support. B. Her own experience.
C. Seniors’ common voice. D. Ageism her grandma got.
27. What message does Albinali want to convey in the last paragraph
A. The shared challenges facing generations. B. The curiosity of seniors about technology.
C. The wisdom of the seniors’ life experience. D. The enriching exchange across generations.

Since Glacier (冰川) National Park’s creation, it has represented the spiritual treasure of Americans with its breathtaking landscapes. But today, climate warming threatens the very emblem of the park, leaving it facing a future in which its name could be cruel ironies (讽刺).
Deep within Glacier National Park, visitors are now met with an amazing sight: a peaceful lake of pale blue water lying among towering peaks. Beautiful as it is, the very presence of this lake is not desired by people. Just a few decades ago, this landscape was entirely frozen. Now the glacier itself is reduced to taking up a small area, sheltered from the Sun at the edge of the lake created through its own melting (融化)
The park has already lost 60 percent of its namesake glaciers since the 1850s, and scientists predict their complete disappearance by the century’s end. Families from all over the US and abroad flood to these natural wonders to create memories that will last.
Conserving the national park is one of the rare issues that brings political opponents together in the US. With tens of millions of visitors to these sites every year, it is also an economic necessity. The US government recently announced considerable funds to help. This has issued a challenge to the identity of National Park Service, a US agency brought into existence by a 1916 law that called for the preservation of those treasured sites pristine (处于原始状态的) for the enjoyment of future generations.
“But it’s now pretty clear that it’s not achievable in many places,” admits John Gross, an ecologist with the National Park Service climate change response program. “It’s certainly possible that the park could lose the iconic feature for which it has been named.”
The climate crisis has thus brought about a shift in the organization’s philosophy: It’s acceptable to change a park’s natural state to stop its further worsening.
28. What does the underlined word “emblem” in paragraph 1 mean
A. Symbol. B. Location. C. Recovery. D. Construction.
29. Why is the new lake in the park mentioned
A. To highlight the economic value of the park.
B. To serve as evidence of the warming climate.
C. To explain the process of glacier formation.
D. To describe a new popular tourist attraction.
30. What can be learned about the National Park Service
A. It mainly allows for economic benefits.
B. It shows confidence in restoring the park.
C. It is forced to adjust its protection principle.
D. It is taking measures to limit visitor numbers.
31. Which can be the best title for the text
A. A New Idea for Park Conservation
B. A Park Is Economically on Thin Ice
C. A Political Agreement on Renaming a Park
D. A Park Might Be at Risk of Redefining Itself
D
Construction robots are not new. They have been doing difficult jobs on building sites for some time. Now, there is a new robot named Charlotte. It is said that this robot can build a2.150- square- foot house all by itself in just one day. It works as fast as about 100 human workers.
Charlotte was created by two Australian companies. One company developed a special, environmentally friendly building material. This material is made from sand, waste glass, and broken bricks found locally. The other company built the robot.
Traditional buildings need a lot of steps, like fixing steel bars(钢筋) and setting up wooden frames (框架). But Charlotte is different. It uses a special system to 3D print the building material, layer (层) by layer. It can even move and lift itself up using its “spider legs”. All this is done by one machine in a single, continuous process.
The robot is still being developed. It will probably take a few years before it builds its first real house. A smaller early model was shown at a recent exhibition. The companies have big dreams for Charlotte. They hope it will not only build houses on the Earth in the future but also help build bases for research on the Moon. They say its design, which copies ideas from nature, and its ability to work alone make it perfect for the Moon.
While Charlotte seems best for simple building styles right now, its main goal is to help with two big problems: not enough workers and slow building progress. These problems make it hard to solve the housing shortage in many countries. The houses it builds can keep out floods and resist fire. The building process is much faster and cheaper than traditional methods. If the materials are taken from nearby places, it can also be better for the environment by reducing carbon emissions.
Of course, this robot builder won’t be the right solution for every place, climate, or what every person likes. But for the millions of people who need a home, it sounds like a very hopeful way to help solve part of the problem.
32. Which aspect of Charlotte is mentioned in paragraph 1
A. Its amazing work efficiency. B. Its widespread application.
C. Its environmental quality. D. Its convenient operation.
33. How is Charlotte’s building process different from traditional methods
A. It needs more time. B. It requires more workers.
C. It focuses on wooden structures. D. It works in a single continuous process.
34. What future application do the companies expect of Charlotte
A. Repairing historical buildings. B. Developing new building materials.
C. Building research bases on the Moon. D. Creating artistic statues for famous people.
35. What is the author’s attitude to the robot builder
A. Critical. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Uncaring.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We all know that we should exercise more, but for many people, the biggest psychological obstacle (心理障碍) is that they feel they simply can’t spare an hour. If you have ever felt guilty for not exercising or have encountered difficulties in time management, then “exercise snacks” might be the solution.
“Exercise snacks” is a new term, referring to short, conscious exercises lasting no more than five minutes. 36 Unlike the junk food snacks of the “couch potato” type, these “exercise snacks” are a guilt-free way that makes improving health conditions doable.
A systematic review and analysis found that exercise snacks can significantly improve the cardio-pulmonary (心肺的) function of people who are not physically active. 37 As the authors explain, exercise snacks may enhance commitment to regular physical activity by providing short, flexible exercise periods that are easier to integrate into daily routines.
38 Instead of carving out an hour at the gym, incorporate (合并) short periods of movement (five minutes or less) into your routine at least twice a day, and make it a habit.
Psychologically, snacking on exercise impacts the workout effect. 39 It’s more about taking advantage of small windows of opportunity in a practical and realistic way.
Achievable goals can inspire motivation. A task that takes only five minutes feels manageable, and the satisfying “ding, ding, ding” feeling of successfully completing a small snack exercise releases the “reward molecule (分子)”— dopamine, therefore strengthening the formation of habits. 40
A. It’s less about discipline or willpower.
B. Climbing stairs in your office building also works.
C. They are particularly effective for those who sit for long.
D. Fitness isn’t something you have to do in big blocks of time.
E. The concept challenges the traditional “all-or-nothing” mindset.
F. Therefore, the key is to do them several times throughout the day.
G. These small wins build confidence, the belief in your ability to succeed.

Sixteen-year-old Grant Mullen had always been different from his classmates. While many teenagers focused on video games and social media, Grant found joy in helping others. His compassionate nature stemmed from the countless hours he spent with his father volunteering at the Specialized Needs recreation (SNR) center in their hometown of Boise, Idaho.
As Grant’s seventeenth birthday approached, his parents noticed he seemed deep in thought. One evening at dinner, his mother asked what he was thinking about. Grant looked up from his plate and said, “Mom, I’ve been thinking about my birthday. Instead of having my usual party with just our family and close friends, I want to do something special.”
His parents exchanged curious glances. “What do you have in mind, sweetheart ” his father asked gently.
Grant’s eyes brightened as he explained his idea. “I want to invite everyone at the SNR center to celebrate with me. Many of them have never been to a birthday party before, and I think everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday.”
His mother’s face softened with emotion. “That’s a beautiful idea, Grant. But are you sure It might be a big crowd.”
“I’m sure,” Grant replied firmly. “They always smile when we visit, and they’ve taught me so much about happiness and friendship.”
The next weekend, Grant and his father visited the center to extend the invitations. Grant also spoke to the staff at SNR, explaining his plan. They were thrilled and offered to help with the preparations.
One by one, Grant approached each person at the center. Eight-year-old Tommy, who rarely spoke, managed to whisper “thank you” with a huge smile. Middle-aged Robert, who used a wheelchair, wiped away tears of gratitude. Even the shy teenagers who usually kept to themselves began chatting excitedly about the upcoming celebration.

参考范文:
An Earthquake Drill
Last Friday morning, a well-organized earthquake drill took place in our school, involving all teachers and students.
At 9:00 AM, the alarm suddenly sounded, signaling the start of the drill. Immediately, all students, who were having their first-period classes, quickly ducked under their desks to protect themselves. Following the teachers’ instructions, they then left the buildings in a calm and orderly manner. Within just four minutes, everyone had gathered safely on the playground. The whole process was smooth and efficient.
This activity was highly meaningful. It not only tested our school’s emergency plan but also taught us valuable skills on how to survive an earthquake.

参考范文:
After the rescue, Shelley was safely returned home. She drank some water and curled up in her bed, falling into a deep, exhausted sleep. The family watched over her, relieved but also quietly noticing that their once lively dog seemed unusually quiet. The next day, when Mrs Dean put her favorite snack in front of her, she somehow refused to take a bite. She even refused to follow Mr Dean to the yard. The family didn’t push her, just stayed by her side, talking softly. Every time someone touched her head, she would lean against their hands, as if seeking comfort.
Weeks later, Shelley gradually got back her liveliness. With patient care from the Deans, she began to regain her confidence. She started running around the house again and chasing her toy ball. The Deans changed their walking routes, avoiding the cliff path. When walking, Shelley still kept an eye on the ground, but she would wag her tail happily when meeting other dogs. The family knew the accident left a mark, but they were glad their lovely dog was back.

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club— we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize
M: Well, we have social get- togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday— Spanish; Tuesday— Italian; Wednesday— German; and Friday— French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I’ll send you the form and some more information. If you join now, you can have the first month free.

M: Hey, Emily, you look anxious. Is everything OK
W: Yes. I’ve just been reading some online articles about climate change. It’s quite frightening that many bad things are happening.
M: Yes, I’ve read in newspapers and magazines that people should take action immediately to reduce the effects of climate change.
W: The article I read says we need to change to renewable energy sources far quicker than we have been.
M: We should. The problem is that many areas still rely on energy that pollutes the planet. We need a solution first before we can stop those.
W: Wind and sun power are becoming more popular.
M: Unfortunately, these methods do not get as much energy as we need.
W: That may have been true ten years ago, but the technology has improved greatly since then.
M: I didn’t know that.
W: Many countries are now building more wind farms to meet their climate change goals.

(Text 10)
On Wednesday, the 8th of December 2021, more than 100 officials met in Los Angeles to celebrate the city’s 40 years of friendship with the Chinese city of Guangzhou. A similar celebration took place in Guangzhou on the 6th of December, with the opening of the Guangzhou-Los Angeles Friendship Garden. Los Angeles, on America’s West Coast, is the second largest city in the U. S. (after New York City, on the East Coast), while Guangzhou is the capital of China’s southern Guangdong Province. The relationship between the two “sister cities” first began in 1981, shortly after the U. S. and China first began working together in1979. The main idea of “sister cities” is to share goods and ideas with other cities around the world, and for the past four decades, Guangzhou and Los Angeles have been a great example of this. They have also worked together to support one another through difficult times and to fight climate change.
