Text 10
Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting a group of nature lovers who are fighting climate change. The leader of the group, John, took a few minutes to sit down and talk to me about their projects. John told me that he started the group with his wife Eliza. A year later they had grown to 10 people and now, four years later, they have 50 volunteers. John said that they planted around 100 trees last week alone. Their group focuses on fixing the places where trees have been cut down by people. John stressed that humans need the trees as much as the animals do and that people tend to forget that trees aren't just materials to sell for profit. We also need them to breathe. I was able to hear more about Eliza, who has actually stopped doing the planting with them for the past year. Eliza still travels with them, but she's started a separate group called “The Knowing Tree”. John described the group as one to inform children about the importance of keeping our natural world in a good condition. It's truly inspiring.

A.To plant trees for materials.
B.To repair damaged forests.
C.To attract more animals.
答案:B
19.What does “The Knowing Tree” focus on

For years, I was in the__rat__race,__my sense of wonder lost. Gardening was my antidote (解毒药). It gave me time to stop, listen and absorb all the little details that nature has to offer—nurturing the earth, plants and myself to fight against the aggression and tiredness of everyday working life.
I quit my job and had a vision for my company. I wanted others to find the comfort that my garden gave me. Now, I watch my clients experience their own transformations. A corner that was once an unwelcoming place of weeds is a child's play area; a lonely person has an inspiring, evolving view.
Gardening requires us to be present in the moment, while also imagining the future. You may see a beautiful flower and be surprised for a minute at the magic of nature. Some flowers last for a day, others for a season. Some come back year after year. Seasons pass and you become connected to the changes in life in a deeper, more spiritual way. This builds acceptance.
Where there once may have been beauty, there might now be an empty space and a deep sense of sadness ... But gardening brings hope—we can create something beautiful again and that space will no longer be bare.
Hope is one of many emotions stirred by gardening. Whether you're growing vegetables to eat, planting tiny seeds or tending flowers, there is always a great sense of satisfaction at the end of a session. How you choose to garden is deeply personal to you—it's about creating something fruitful, alone or with others.
The key is to have a vision, ideas and bright hopes for the future.

Do you remember that story about the little girl who goes to visit her grandmother and meets a big, bad wolf along the way Or perhaps you remember the story of the three little pigs who build three houses to protect themselves from a wolf
The reality behind the fairy tales is that people feared wolves. Hunting and killing originating from hatred almost caused the animals to go extinct. Wolves needed a fairy godmother—and that is what Brookfield Zoo in Chicago is for wolves and their puppies.
Being a fairy godmother to wolves is not easy. Brookfield Zoo replaced iron barred cubicles with safe habitats, which are not merely appealing to the zoo visitor, but more importantly, are contributing to the normal behavior and reproduction of the animals. The wolves have a large area to run and play in, places to hide and sleep in, and hills to climb with lots of grass and trees around them.
A fairy godmother's job is to make dreams magically come true and part of the magic is being invisible. The people who take care of the wolves hide themselves and the food and toys in places where the wolves can dig them up and find them on their own, so they feel more like they are living in nature.
Fairy tales are just stories. Wolves don't dress up as grandmothers, nor have they blown a house down. Wolves aren't scary at all, and in fact, they are more afraid of humans than we are of them.
The wolves have a great life at Brookfield Zoo. Maybe they will stay at Brookfield Zoo, but it would be nice to see them live back in nature again, too. If we all work together, maybe we can make this fairy tale come true for the wolves.

Spending time outdoors, especially in green space, is an effective way to improve your health and happiness. It's been shown to lower stress, blood pressure and heart rate while encouraging physical activity and improving mood and mental health.
A study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research adds to the evidence and shows how little time it takes to get the benefits of being in the park. Spending just 30 minutes in a park—even if you don't exercise while you're there—is enough to improve well being, according to the research.
For the study, researchers surveyed 94 adults who visited one of three urban parks, over the summer and fall. They were given fitness trackers to measure physical activity but were not told what to do in the park or how long to stay. Each person also answered questions about their life satisfaction and mood—which were used to calculate the score of subjective well being before and after their park visit. The average park visit lasted 32 minutes and well being scores rose during the park visit in 90% of people. “People may go to the park and just enjoy nature. They relax and reduce stress, and then feel happier.” study co author Hon Yuen says.
It is for all of these reasons that the medical community is increasingly viewing green space as a great place where their patients can obtain physical and mental health benefits. Some physicians, like Robert Zarr, are even writing prescriptions for it. By writing nature prescriptions—alongside medical prescriptions, when necessary—physicians are encouraging their patients to go outdoors and take advantage of what many view to be free medicine. He said, “It's about making a positive choice in their life rather than a discouraging choice like they're sick; take a pill. It just seems so much more supportive.”

Move towards nature when feeling down. Miracles do happen if you try. According to studies, walking among trees makes us relaxed. __36__ There's plenty of research showing the link between being in nature and being happy, but most of the research has focused on adults.
__37__ Explaining the motivation behind the study, researchers note that with environmental issues such as global warming, more studies are focusing on the relationships between humans and nature to find solutions to these problems, and the future of the planet lies in the hands of children and their actions. However, few studies focus on this aspect.
For the study, researchers worked with 206 children between the ages of 5 and 15. To measure how connected they were to nature, the kids were asked how much they enjoy activities like seeing wildflowers and wild animals, hearing sounds of nature and touching animals and plants. __38__ They also found that the more concerned children were about the environment and nature, the more likely they were to be happy.
So, exposure to nature is related to active behaviors and happiness of children. What does that mean to adults As we all know, children usually tend to follow adults', especially their parents' behaviors. That's to say, when adults are outside and appreciate nature, kids learn by example. __39__
Researchers say that children need role models who can gently guide them to nature with excitement and an attitude of a lifelong learner. __40__ What's more important is that they spend time together with children by exploring a fun and safe environment.
A.It's so adventurous going for a walk around trees.
B.Researchers will study more about the connection between children's performance and nature.
C.And if parents enjoy being close to nature, so will their children.
D.Parents don't have to be experts in environmental science or nature studies.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jack and his wife Tonya were sailing around Africa with their friends Max and Sasha. One day they saw a big fishing boat. It was moving fast.
“Hello!” they shouted. The men on the boat looked at them angrily. Max looked carefully at the boat.
“Something's wrong with their fishing net,” he said. They got nearer to the net.
“What's that?” said Tonya. “There is something in the net. It's alive.”
Very slowly they moved nearer.
“I can see it now,” said Tonya. “It's a killer whale—it's hurt. There's blood in the water. How can we help it?”
“I can see it too. It's a baby but we must be careful,” said Max.
Jack jumped into the water, “I can get the net off its fin (鳍),” he said.
Jack got the net off the baby killer whale. There was a big cut on its fin. It swam away. Suddenly there were other killer whales near the boat.
“Jack!” Tonya shouted. “Get in quickly.” Jack swam to the boat as fast as a fish. “That baby killer whale ... I am going to call it Lucky,” he said.
As they moved away, it began to rain harder and harder.
Jack said, “We must get away from the wind. I can see a town over there. Let's go.”
The town got nearer but the waves got bigger. Suddenly a very big wave hit the boat.
“Is everyone OK?” shouted Jack.
“Tonya ... She's not in the boat,” said Sasha. “She's in the water.”
They looked into the cold, dark water for hours. “Tonya! Say something, Tonya. Where are you?” shouted Max.
The wind got stronger and the boat was full of water. Another big wave hit the boat.
“Jack, do you want us all to die?” said Max. “We can't do any more. Tonya is wearing a life jacket (救生衣) and she can swim very well. Let's sail to the town.”
Moments later the boat hit a beach. They went out. Max and Sasha slept on the beach. Jack sat near the water, looking at the sea and thinking about Tonya.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
At that time, Tonya was five hundred metres away out in the sea.

Jack was walking along the beach and suddenly he

At that time, Tonya was five hundred metres away out in the sea. A big wave came and crashed onto her, swallowing her. She struggled to come up from under the water, only to find her lifejacket gone. “Help! Anyone help!” She shouted at the top of her voice but heard nothing in response except the roaring waves. All of a sudden, she caught sight of a giant dark fish-like creature moving swiftly towards her. “A shark!” Tonya froze. “I will be killed!” The next moment, another giant wave hit her unconscious.
Jack was walking along the beach and suddenly he spotted something like a tiny boat moving towards the beach. “Maybe someone has picked up Tonya!” He was expecting a miracle to fall upon Tonya. “Oh, no, it isn't a boat. It is Lucky—the injured killer whale we have rescued!” “Why is it here?” Before Jack figured out what was happening, another killer whale came out of nowhere, holding up a person high in the air! “It's Tonya!”

John stressed that humans need the
trees as much as the animals do and that people tend to forget that trees aren't just materials to sell for profit.
18.What is the goal of John's group
A.To plant trees for materials. B.To repair damaged forests.
C.To attract more animals.
19.What does “The Knowing Tree” focus on
A.Educating children.

For years, I was in the rat race, my sense of wonder lost.

C.It's depressing. D.It's cooperative.

27.What is the best title
A.Gardening for Fun B.A Sense of Wonder

解析:标题判断题。根据第一段第二句“Gardening was my antidote (解毒药).”可知,作者点明文章主题,指出园艺对自己的好处;在下文中作者又具体阐述了园艺带给自己的最重要的好处:园艺带来希望,所以C项(播种希望)精准概括主旨,最适合作为文章标题。故选C。

“Tonya ... She’s not in the boat,” said Sasha. “She’s in the water.”
At that time, Tonya was five hundred metres away out in the sea.﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍
