My Way to Improve Myself
Everyone has its own ways to improve. I like playing the piano and watching English films.
I choose to play the piano because music makes me feel calm and happy. It is not only an art form but also a good way to express my feelings. I practise it for an hour every day, although it sometimes requires great patience. As for watching English films, I do it mainly to improve my listening skills and to learn about different cultures.
These activities help me in several ways. Playing the piano teaches me the importance of practice and careful attention to details. It has made me more patient and focused. Watching English films has greatly improved my listening ability and broadened my view of the world. I can now understand spoken English much better than before, which also improves my confidence in English classes.
In short, by developing my hobby in music and making good use of entertainment, I am not only becoming a better learner but also a more well-rounded person.2025~2026学年度秋学期质量抽测调研考试

Drums in space
Brenda showed great interest in music at a very young age. She had one big dream—to play the 26 in a band. But one big problem lay 27 . To be good enough to play in a band, Brenda had to practise a lot, but she lived next door to a lot of old people—many of them liked living in the 28 place. She knew that the sound of beating drums would really drive them mad.
Brenda was a very good, 29 girl. She always tried to find a way of practising her drums without troubling other people. So she had tried playing in the strangest places: a basement, a kitchen, and even in a shower. But it was no good. Someone always got 30 with her when she was practising. However, Brenda decided to practise as much as she could. She spent most of her time playing on books and boxes, and 31 new places to practise.
One day, while watching a science programme on TV, she heard that 32 cannot travel in space, because there’s no air. At that moment, Brenda decided to become a musical astronaut.
With the help of a lot of time, a lot of books and a lot of work, Brenda built a space bubble. It was a big glass ball which was 33 to a machine and the machine helped draw all the air inside. There were only drums and a chair inside. Brenda put on the spacesuit she had made, 34 the bubble, turned on the machine, and then she played the drums like a wild child!

The Four Seasons, written by the Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi, was first played about 300 years ago. Since then, it has enjoyed worldwide popularity.
The great musical work includes four parts: “Spring”, “Summer”, “Autumn” and “Winter”. Each part brings to mind the season it is meant to describe. “Summer”, for example, begins slowly. Listeners can easily picture a hot, lazy summer day when nobody wants to move. When you listen to “Autumn”, a harvest(收获)celebration will readily come to mind.
But now, Hache Costa, a music director in Spain, has decided to give the old work a fresh feel. He says the climate(气候)today is very different from what it was in the 1700s. The Four Seasons would be “a lot dirtier” if it were written now.
Costa has “updated” the musical work to make it match the realities of the modern world. The “updated” musical work has been played in Madrid, Spain. The performance takes place in front of a screen. As the musicians play, a video shows the effects(影响)of climate change, such as forest fires and unusually dry weather.
After enjoying it, people find the new “Summer” now sounds noisier and more powerful. Because of global warming(全球变暖), the other three seasons have become shorter. Costa says he expects people to feel “really sad” after listening to the new Four Seasons.
“I really want more people to become truly aware of(意识到)what is happening to our planet.” says Costa, “And I believe Vivaldi would not be angry with my changes.”

One day in autumn Squire Gordon, my master, went on a trip into town. John, my caretaker, went with him. I pulled the cart. The weather was rainy and windy, but we travelled happily.
Gordon’s business took a long time. We didn’t leave until late afternoon. The wind was then much higher. My master said to John, “I have never been out in such a storm!” Mr Gordon and John could not see well in the rain.
We came to a wooden bridge. It was very nearly dark. We could just see that the water was over the middle of the bridge. But as that happened sometimes when the floods were out, master did not stop. The moment my feet touched the first part of the bridge, I felt sure there was something wrong. I dare(敢于)not go forward, and I made a dead stop. “Go on,Beauty,” said my master, and he gave me a touch with the whip(鞭子), but I dare not move. He gave me a sharp cut and I jumped, but I dare not go forward.
“There's something wrong, sir,” said John, and he got out and tried to lead me forward. “Come on, Beauty.” But I knew that the bridge was not safe.
Just then the man on the other side saw us.
“Hey! Halloo! Stop!” he cried.
“What's the matter ” shouted my master.
“The bridge is broken in the middle, and part of it is carried away. If you go onto it, you'll be into the river.”
“Thank you for saving us, Beauty!” said John. He gently turned me round to the right hand road by the river side. It grew darker and darker, stiller and stiller.
When we returned home the Squire told Mrs Gordon, “Black Beauty saved our lives. He knew the bridge was dangerous.”
John took me to the stable. Oh! What a good supper he gave me that night! What a nice bed of straw! I was glad of it, for I was tired.

Though oceans cover about 71 percent of the earth’s surface, there’s still a lot we don’t know about them. Only about 20 percent of the seafloor has been mapped, and the remaining 80 percent is still a secret to us.Some scientists even think that 91 percent of sea animals have yet to be discovered.
So why do we know so little about the deep sea Well, getting to those depths is very difficult and requires high technology that simply didn't come into being for most of human history. The first navigable submarine(可驾驶的潜水艇), for example, was built in 1620, and it couldn’t go more than five meters below the surface. In fact, for a longtime many scientists didn’t even think that there could be any life at depths greater than 550 meters and didn’t see much need to explore(探索)the deep sea. However, this changed in 1862 when life was discovered as far down as 945 meters below sea level with the help of a digging machine. Ten years later, around 4,700 species(物种)unknown before from the ocean floor were discovered.
Since then, high technology has been developed to help explore the deep sea, including satellites. But why is deep-sea exploration still so difficult Well, at greater depths it is freezing(极冷的), everything is completely dark, and the pressure can be over 1, 000 times greater than that on the surface.
Though we have the difficulties, it’s important that we understand the seas. They help control the earth’s temperature and produce half of the oxygen (O2) in the air. They can also provide us with information about climate change. Our future depends on learning more about our oceans, and it is possible for us to really understand what is ongoing below the surface.
52.Why are some numbers listed in Paragraph 1?
A. To introduce how important oceans are.
B. To discuss why sea animals have yet to be found out.
C. To explain that oceans cover a large area of the earth.
D. To show that we have only a little understanding of oceans.
53. What caused the change of exploration into the deep sea
A. High technology. B. Unknown species.
C. A pleasant environment. D. Valuable information.
54.What does the underlined word “They” in the last paragraph refer to
A. Sea animals. B. The seas.
C. The satellites. D. Many scientists.
55.What could be the best title of the text?
A. Hidden Treasures in Deep Sea
B. Unlocked Secrets of Deep Sea
C. Deep-Sea Exploration: Into the Freezing Depths
D. Deep-Sea Exploration: The Past and the Future

What exactly is a “bad” habit We often come up with common e 76 such as biting the ends of your nails(指甲) or eating fast food. There are many simple ways to fight bad habits, even if you’ve had them for many years.
Nail biting
Chewing at the ends of your nails shows moments of anxiety, stress or simply as a bad habit. As many as 30 per cent of the population bite their nails, with teenagers being the biggest group. It may seem like a harmless habit, but by continually chewing your nails, dirt and bacteria(细菌)are being transferred into your mouth, putting you at greater risk of infections(传染).
In the past, preventing nail biting involved coating fingertips with bitter or sour-tasting foods. However, today there are many nail polish products that have the same e 77 . Creating a physical barrier between the mouth and nail, such as gloves or mouth guards(护齿牙套), can also help to break the habit. Maintaining short nails is also a method to prevent the habit from being formed.
For the more severe cases, nail biting may have a r 78 with your mental health, such as anxiety or depression. In these cases, cognitive behavioral therapies can be explored to understand the emotional root of the habit and seek to solve the problems.
Procrastination(拖延)
W 79 it’s washing the dishes, answering a work email or writing the school essay by the end of the deadline, procrastination is a bad habit that can affect many different aspects of your life. Other than the stress and anxiety caused by rushing to finish a task you’ve put off completing, procrastination can lead to you c 80 your self-worth, producing poor-quality or incorrect work, and fatigue(疲劳).
To prevent putting tasks off until the last most important things you need to achieve that day. Also, be realistic in what you can achieve in your given time frame. It also doesn’t hurt to try out a reward system for each task. By only doing your f 81 things once you've carried out a task, you might be more likely to achieve your goals.
Being a couch potato
Lying on the sofa in front of the TV after a long day at work or on a lazy Sunday afternoon might be c 82 by some as the perfect “me time.” Perhaps for an hour or two a day that might be true, but what about for five hours or even an entire day Getting into the bad habit of s 83 long time lying still increases the risk of depression and obesity(肥胖), and can even make you less agreeable(讨人喜欢的).
Keeping an active routine and strict TV schedule is the best way to prevent becoming a couch potato. It’s recommended that you only spend a 84 two hours per day sitting watching TV and at least 30 minutes exercising. The l 85 TV show can be hard to say no to, so try to limit how many episodes(集) you watch in a day. If you just have to see how the series ends, do some exercise in the living room while watching your favourite show.
