Draft rules to protect wildlife in Heilongjiang
China's first law on wetlands protection will take effect June 1. The law will mean severe punishment for damaging wetland environments.
Behaviors such as over-grazing(过度放牧), over-fishing, wastewater discharge(排放) are not allowed. Human activities including tourism, planting, and fishing within wetlands should not change wetlands and interfere(干涉)with the growth and reproduction(繁殖) of wild animals or destroy the habitats of wild animals.
If someone damages one square meter of wetland, they will pay as much as 10,000 yuan .

There are many wetlands in China. Yancheng Nature Reserve, in Jiangsu Province in the east of China, is one of the world‘s most important wetlands. It covers an area of about 2,472 square kilometres. The mud and sand from theYellow River and the Yangtze River formed the area.
Yancheng Nature Reserve provides a home for many different plants and rare birds, There are more than 400 types of birds living there. One of them is the red-crowned crane, and they are at risk in the wild. There are about 2,000 red-crowned cranes in the world. About 400 to 600 red-crowned cranes fly toYancheng every year to spend the winter.
From these questions, we now have a clear picture of where Yancheng Wetlands are, how big and how important they are, especially for species like the red-crowned cranes. But knowing their importance leads us to a crucial next question:
How can we protect them
Let's listen to an environmental expert discuss exactly that.
Daniel has found another talk by an environmental expert about how to protect wetlands. Listen with him and complete the notes below.
What information can we get from the talk

farms and buildings

Wetlands are really important for wildlife. We should try our best to protect wetlands.
There are two main problems for wetlands today. First, people use the land for farms and buildings. Another problem is caused by tourists. As people move through wetlands, they may bring trouble to the animals there or harm the plants.
To help solve these problems, governments can take action by creating laws to stop people from building on wetlands. Governments can also make laws to reduce the number of tourists visiting wetlands and make sure visitors do no harm while they are there.
Local communities should also work together to help protect wetlands. They can set up volunteer groups to help keep wetlands free from pollution and make sure tourists are careful when they visit. They can also plant wetland trees. These trees can attract more birds, animals and insects to keep the ecosystem balanced.
