We faced thousands of tiny white pieces, each packaged with precision in numbered plastic bags, accompanied by a thick instruction book. The evenings passed quickly, and the building rose before our eyes. We could see our efforts producing good results, and as we turned to the boring task of ordering the colored bricks on the building’s floor, our conversation too took a turn.We were amazed by how complex the model was and its instruction book. We realized the book itself was a work of art, beautiful, but also surprisingly detailed and clear. It provided us with the comfort of certainty. We knew if we followed all the instructions, we would end up with a model that looked exactly like the picture on the box. If we made a mistake, all we had to do was to repeat our steps and start again.Life, however, does not fit together so neatly and rarely provides us with such clear instructions. We talked over our respective lives, decisions made, and actions and choices never taken. Dad reflected on a life well lived, and I, in my mid-thirties, on the uncertain path that lay ahead. Here, we were the expert architects doing the assembling (组装), but out in the world, we were the ones being assembled. We think we’re in control, but our choices are shaped by forces beyond our control. In the face of uncertainty, we have to proceed, trusting both in the process and the end result.Sometimes, on the days I return home, I go to the spare room to look at the completed Lego model, which brings forth a sense of happiness and comfort. It reminds me that life is built slowly, with mistakes, an element of uncertainty and no instruction book. It shows that consideration, warmth and faith will result in a life well lived. Life itself is not about what we materially create or leave behind, but rather how we lived it.24. Which can best describe the author’s experience of building the Lego model A. Simple and uninteresting. B. Imaginative and enjoyable.C. Complicated and rewarding. D. Challenging and discouraging.25. What does the author learn from assembling the Lego model A. Life requires to be planned carefully. B. Life doesn’t come with clear guidance.C. Mistakes in life can always be corrected. D. Life’s uncertainty makes it more exciting.26. How does the author suggest we deal with uncertainty in life A. By avoiding making any choice. B. By focusing on instant end results.C. By seeking instructions from others. D. By moving forward with confidence.27. What does the completed Lego model mean to the author A. The value of hard work in life. B. The achievement of life goals.C. The journey of living one’s life. D. The joy of staying with families.CMore than 1,000 metres below the surface of the oceans, darkness dominates. Marine creatures rely on sound for navigation, communication, and searching for food. However, this way of life has come under threat from shipping, contributing to a rise in underwater volume of approximately 3.3 decibels(分贝) per decade. The trend shows little sign of levelling off. With roughly 90% of trade relying on shipping, quieting the ocean through reductions in shipping itself is untenable. While efficiency improvements of shipping may cut noise, experts say more is needed. That is why technologies like modified propellers(螺旋桨) and noise-reducing materials are being developed to help humans and marine life coexist.Much of the underwater noise a ship produces comes from its propeller. Spinning blades (桨叶) create low pressure, causing the water to boil and produce bubbles, a process known as cavitation(空化现象).When those bubbles collapse, a low-frequency noise is produced, disrupting the movements of marine lives. One solution, being developed by researchers at the University of British Columbia, integrates flexible polymers(聚合物) into the metal propeller blades, allowing their tips to bend and twist. This movement prevents bubbles from forming and thereby reduces the noise the blades produce. Based on simulations, the design could reduce cavitation noise by 20 decibels. Dr Jaiman says researchers intend to start testing a model next year.Cavitation can also be reduced by increasing the number of bubbles, rather than reducing them. Researchers at MARIN, a Dutch research institute, have blown bubbles onto a propeller’s blades, which can dampen the resulting noise. Model-scale tests of this system showed a 12-decibel decrease in low-frequency noise. But shipping noise does not come only from the propeller, with roughly 20% coming from engines and generators. To reduce this, MARIN researchers have experimented with a bubble screen generated from tubes positioned in belts around the outside of the ship. These bubbles prevent noise from spreading.28.Which best explains the underlined word “untenable” in paragraph 2 A. Impractical. B. Unavailable. C. Unstable. D. Immeasurable.29.What is the main source of underwater noise from ships A. The spinning blades. B. The process of cavitation.C. The engines and generators. D. The bubbles generated by ships30. What solution is being developed at MARIN A. Boosting ship efficiency. B. Creating flexible blade tips.C. Generating more bubbles on blades. D. Using quieter engines and generators.31.What’s the passage mainly about A. Strategies to prevent ships from making noise.B. Innovations to minimize underwater ship noise.C. Adapted propeller designs to restore undersea quiet.D. Negative impacts of underwater noise on marine life.DThe idea that night owls who don’t go to bed until the early hours struggle to get anything done during the day may have to be revised. It turns out that staying up late could be good for our brain power as research suggests that people who identify as night owls could be sharper than those who go to bed early.Researchers led by academics at Imperial College London studied data from the UK Biobank study on more than 26,000 people who had completed intelligence, reasoning, reaction time and memory tests. They then examined how participants’ sleep duration, quality, and chronotype affected brain performance. They found that those who stay up late and those classed as “intermediate” had “superior cognitive function”, while morning larks had the lowest scores. Going to bed late is strongly associated with creative types. Artists, authors and musicians known to be night owls include James Joyce and Lady Gaga. But while politicians like Barack Obama famously seemed to thrive on little sleep, the study found that sleep duration is important for brain function, with those getting between seven and nine hours of shut-eye each night performing best in cognitive tests. Prof Daqing Ma, the co-leader of the study, added, “We found that sleep duration has a direct effect on brain function, and we believe that actively managing sleep patterns is really important for boosting and safeguarding the way our brains work. We’d ideally like to see policy interventions to help sleep patterns improve in the general population.”Some experts, however, urged caution in interpreting the findings. Jessica Chelekis, a sleep expert at Brunel University London, said there were “important limitations” to the study as the research did not account for education attainment, or include the time of day the cognitive tests were conducted in the results. The main value of the study was challenging stereotypes around sleep, she added.32.What can be learned about the new research A. It advocates a new trend of sleep patterns. B. It reveals most night owls have sharp brains.C. It suggests staying up enhances brain power. D. It challenges common belief about night owls.33. Why are James Joyce and Lady Gaga mentioned in paragraph 2 A. To provide examples of intermediate people.B. To suggest most successful artists are night owls.C. To prove artists have superior cognitive function.D. To show the link between late hours and creativity.34. Which statement will Prof Daqing Ma probably agree with A. All sleep lengths equally improve brain function.B. Parents shouldn’t intervene children’s sleep pattern.C. Schools should start later to fit teens’ body clocks.D. Sleep duration is more important than sleep quality.35. What is the author’s attitude towards the new study A. Objective. B. Skeptical C. Appreciative D. What matters is the way you tackle each situation. 36 Here’s how you can create a new chapter in your life.● Learn from others. There is one common mistake that many of us make: when dealing with a problem or situation, we try to go through all of it on our own. 37 When you start learning and depending on others, you notice the different patterns which made them successful.● Try everything in your hands.Sometimes we might feel that we have tried out so much and still nothing is working out for us. I know that situation as I have been there. I would say this one thing to you: giving up is easy, but continuing with the pain is hard but worth it. The only workable solution that I would offer you is to think outside the box. Try solutions that you never ever dreamed of. 38● Let go of your past.We must forgive ourselves so that we can easily begin the next chapter. We did our best in that time. It was certainly the right thing to do but it didn’t work out and that wasn’t your fault. Forgive yourself and begin anew. 39 It is what makes us humans.● 40Most people get busy doing the things that don’t get them anywhere. In stressful situations, people even seek unhealthy ways to relieve the stress. Remember to live in reality to make sensible and favorable choices for yourself. Don’t follow the path to anger and destroy what is good for you. Picture your goals in your mind and make sensible steps towards them with each passing day. Let nothing stand in your way.A. Do what actually works.B. Everyone makes mistakes.C. Live in the present moment.D. They might actually make things better for you.E. Clara walked in quietly. Her shoes stepped on wood shavings (包花) that sparkled in the sunlight, Through the dusty windows, the morning light shone on Grandfather’s rough hands. He was gluing a maple chair leg.The wall calendar still showed January. Its yellowed pages were curling, just like dry leaves. An open order book lay on the desk. February’s page was empty. There had been no new orders since mid-January, Clara held her breath and recorded Grandfather with her phone. She focused on his quick hands as he measured angles with a metal ruler.“This might help him,”she thought, eager to show how skilled he was. However, when she posted the video online, negative comments flooded in.“Old ways for a dying business!” “No wonder the business is failing!”Saddened, Clara deleted the video quickly. A spider crawled over the empty order book. Its blank pages showed not many people wanted handmade things these days.“Want to see my treasure ”Grandpa’s voice broke the silence. He opened a leather album filled with pencil sketches (草图) like library chairs from 1958 and park benches from 1962. faded photo slipped out: a smiling boy missing two teeth was grinning at the camera, holding a curved (弯曲的) spoon proudly .“Timmy, my former student,”Grandfather smiled, touching the curve of the spoon in the photo.“Now he designs furniture for tall buildings. Last month’s newspaper had an article about his curved stairs. It was inspired by this very spoon.”He tapped the photo, adding,“Machines make things fast, but hands remember stories.”Clara looked at the photo - the curved spoon, Timmy’s smile, and Grandpa’s young handwriting on the back: Timmy’s first repair, age 7. Beside her, fresh wood shavings were shining.“Stories must be told.”Clara murmured, taking out her phone again. This time, she aimed to share not just the work, but the story behind it.注意:续写词数应为150左右;请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。The next morning, Clara uploaded a new video.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________A week later, Timmy, now a famous furniture designer, walked in the workshop._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________江阴市三校2025-2026学年度第一学期12月联合考试英语答案听力(每题1.5分,满分30分)1-5 AABAB 6-10 BACBC 11-15 ACACC 16-20 BBCAC阅读(每题2.5分,满分37.5分)21-23 CBA 24-27 CBDC 28-31 AACB 32-35 DDCA七选五(每题2.5分,满分12.5分)36-40 GFDBA完型(每题1分,满分15分)41-45 CCDBA 46-50 CDDBC 51-55 ABBDA语法短文填空(每题1.5分,满分12.5分)56. their 57. likes 58. the 59. originally 60. screening 61.where 62. has evolved 63. that64. from 65. What left the deepest impression on me was the high-tech farm, where advanced technologies such as drip irrigation and drones were being utilized. Additionally, local artisans showcased their centuries-old bamboo weaving techniques, creating exquisite artworks that are sold globally through e-commerce platforms. This eye-opening experience reshaped my understanding of rural China. I realized that technological advancements are not only breathing new life into villages but also maintaining cultural continuity. I’m genuinely proud of the rural development in our country.Hope you can visit China’s countryside someday to experience its unique charm firsthand!Yours,Li Hua读后续写(满分25分)Paragraph 1:The next morning, Clara uploaded a new video. This time, her camera swept across the leather album’s sketches of Timmy’s curved spoon and lingered on a yellowed newspaper clipping featuring his iconic stairs. As Grandfather narrated their story, she zoomed in on his hands - wrinkled yet steady - shaping a piece of wood into art. The video ended with his voice, “Hands remember stories machines forget.” By noon, comments exploded, “Hands of a legend!” “Need this magic in my home!” Shares of the video skyrocketed. Amid the flood of praise, Clara spotted a message, “I’m coming to see you soon, Master — back to where the magic began!” Her eyes widened at Timmy’s profile picture which just matched the same grin from that faded photo.Paragraph 2:A week later, Timmy, now a famous furniture designer, walked in the workshop. He embraced Grandfather, tears glistening. “Your spoon taught me curves have souls,” he said, placing the curved spoon on the desk. Together, they designed a signature chair – Timmy sketching modern lines on his tablet while Grandfather penciling his classic curves. Clara captured the moment: their four hands shaping a maple chair leg together, mirroring the one Grandfather had glued a week before. When Timmy posted the video, orders poured in: new chairs with curved legs, and even wooden benches for the town park. Wood shavings danced in the sunlight as the workshop came back to life, the order book’s empty February page now filled with March’s growing demands.听力原文Text 1M: Oh no, the car won’t start again!
