In September 1928, Fleming was working in his laboratory in London. He was studying staphylococcus bacteria (葡萄球菌),which can cause serious 12 in people. They felt weak. Before leaving for a vacation, he left some polluted dishes with bacteria in his lab by chance. When he returned, he noticed something 13 . A blue-green mold (青绿霉菌) had grown on one dish, and around it was a clear circle where all the bacteria had died.
Instead of throwing away the polluted dish, Fleming became very 14 . He thought the blue-green mold might produce something that could kill bacteria. He decided to test this idea by doing more experiments. He found that the mold juice was indeed very effective at 15 harmful bacteria. He named this amazing mold “penicillin”.
What made penicillin so special was that it could kill bacteria without harming human cells. This meant it could be used safely to treat sick people. Fleming’s discovery opened a new chapter in medicine-the age of antibiotics (抗生素). It completely changed how doctors treat bacteria and has 16 countless lives around the world.
This wonderful story teaches us that in science, keeping an open mind and being curious can sometimes lead to amazing discoveries that change the world.

The wise elder shook his head, gently lifted the vase in both hands and poured the water into a pot filled with sand. The clear water disappeared into the sand. The wise elder said, “Look, the water died away like this. This is a lifetime.”
The young man said happily, “I know you want to tell me that the society is like various containers, so people should be like water. When you are in a certain container, you will become its shape and nothing can change.”
“Yes and no,” the wise elder said. He went out of the house, followed by the young man. Under the roof, the wise elder bent over, ran his hand over the worn stone steps for a while, and then stopped. The young man touched the same spot on the step as the wise elder did. He felt a concave (凹面) there. He wondered, “What secret does this hollow hide ”
The wise elder explained, “When it rained, water dripped from the roof. Over time, the dripping water made a hollow in the stone below.” The young man got inspired suddenly, “I understand: People might be placed in ordinary containers, but they should be like a little drop of water. They keep trying and can finally wear hard stones, even if it takes time.”

I'm Li Hua, head of the Eco Club. Today I want to talk about saving water at school. Water is very important for daily life. But now, many places lack clean water—many can’t even get enough to live well.
However, I see wasteful acts in our school: students leave taps on after hand-washing, and we use too much water for mopping floors. To fix this, turn taps off tightly right after use. Use the right water amount when cleaning.
Water's precious. Let's save every drop at school—small acts help!
That's all. Thanks for listening!
