For years, Kevin Pang's relationship with his father Jeffrey Pang consisted mainly of brief phone exchanges of small talk or arguments over minor complaint in person. The Pangs immigrated from Hong Kong in 1988 when Kevin was 6 years old. Before settling into America, his cook-loving father put together a notebook of homeland food recipes for their new lives abroad.
Kevin says he never thought about food too deeply until he thought about it professionally. “When I became a food writer, I started to have questions about certain Chinese foods and dishes that I had never heard of. My father became this wellspring (源泉) of knowledge and wisdom, ” Kevin recalls. “Suddenly, our two-minute talks were half an hour. ”
When it comes to cooking Chinese food, kevin points out that there is no one definition of Chinese food. “Chinese cooking is not hidebound. For example, consider baked pork chop rice (烤猪排饭) , popularized in Hong Kong. It is a pork chop with egg-fried rice. And then you top it with this thick tomato sauce, ” explains Kevin. “And then you top that with some cheese. It's a very interesting combined dish that has some Western British influences, and it's altogether very Chinese as well. ”
By the time Kevin joined America's Test Kitchen (ATK) staff in 2020 as its editorial director for digital content, his father had become an Internet celebrity demonstrating the family's recipes. Kevin recognized an opportunity not only to share his own family's food stories but also to apply the ATK method of breaking down recipes into simple steps for the home cook.
“I think this cookbook can teach fathers and sons how to connect, how to find a common interest and improve their relationship, ” Kevin says. That feeling has found a fan base, generating nearly 3million views for their online cooking series “Hunger Pangs”, where viewers speak highly of their father-son bond as much as they do of their attractive dishes.

C.They do dishes to attract followers. D.Their cookbook is about low-fat food.
27.What does the passage mainly talk about
A.Cooking at home helps you cook well for less.

We all know that water is tasteless. But it happens from time to time: you pick up the bottle of water you didn’t finish yesterday, and it tastes strange. Most often, you tend to drop the bottle in the trash bin, believing that the water has gone bad. But is it true
According to Time, of course not, taste has little to do with quality of water. As is mentioned in Time, when water is exposed to the air for 12 hours, carbon dioxide interacts with the H2O in the water, and the pH value lowers slightly. As a result, the water has a different taste.
“But it’s most likely safe to drink,” Norwegian expert Truls Krogh told Science Nordic. “If the water is covered and of good quality to start with, in principle it can last a thousand years. That’s because when water is fresh, it contains little organic matter. As long as water is held in clean glasses or bottles, no pollutants will enter it to harm our health.”
People in countries like the US, the UK and Australia usually drink tap water. According to Time, if tap water is drunk within six months, the chlorine (氯气) in the water will be enough to kill any bacteria and keep it safe to drink.
However, there are also some exceptions. If you accidentally put your fingers into water or store water in unclean containers day after day, microorganism (微生物) will enter the water. With the help of surrounding temperature, and sunlight streaming through windows, these microorganisms multiply quickly. Sooner or later, the water will be full of the unfriendly bacteria. And if you drink the water too often, then you’re more likely to be ill.
And what about water in plastic bottles Heat and plastic are a bad combination, US researcher Kellogg Schwab stresses. When plastic bottles are used at high temperatures, they produce a chemical called BPA.BPA is something that affects hormones (荷尔蒙) and research has tentatively linked it to “several health damage, including heart disease and cancer”, Time reported.
Schwab suggests replacing disposable (一次性的) plastic bottles with the refillable containers made of metal or glass to deal with BPA.
28.The purpose of the first paragraph is to ________.
A.introduce a topic B.draw a conclusion
C.show an example D. analyze a phenomenon
29.Which of the following may Truls Krogh agree
A.Covered water can last for a thousand years.
B.If the water tastes different, we shouldn’t drink it.
C.Although kept fresh, water may still have much organic matter.
D.The water held in a clean container is likely safe to drink.
30.Why do water microorganisms increase in number
A. Because the water is stored in clean containers.
B. Because of the surrounding temperature and sunlight.
C. Because the water contains a lot of organic matter.
D. Because chlorine in the water fails to kill bacteria.
31.What can be the best title of the passage
A.Why Water Is Tasteless B.How to Get Clean Water
C.Does Water Really Go Bad D.Learn to Protect Water

We live in the age of globalization; about 250 million people worldwide now live in countries other than the one in which they were born.
Economic migrants look overseas to find better jobs and an improved standard of living. They often travel to one of the many developed countries. These countries often have low birthrates, and as a result, are in need of working-age adults. Then there are retirees — people who want to spend their later years in a country with a lower cost of living. This group of migrants usually come from countries where the cost of retirement is high.
Today, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the top places for economic migrants: they make up over 80 percent of the population. However, Japan's migrant population is just one in fifty. Where migrants go depends on many things, such as job opportunities there or cultural and language differences.
The huge number of migrants is a cause of worry within the host country, and it is sometimes believed that migrants lead to the reduction of that country's resources. However, many people disagree about that. A study by researchers Christian and Tommaso showed that on the whole, migrants from Europe contributed more to Britain's economy than they benefited from the value of public services.
Besides, most migrants send money home to their families; according to the World Bank, international migrants sent home about $600 billion in 2015, an amount comparable to the national wealth of the twentieth richest country in the world.
In addition to the economic benefits, migrants may contribute to the cultural diversity of their host countries. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) works with governments to protect migrants' rights. Through a global movement called “Migrants Contribute,” it also raises awareness of the value of migrants' contributions. Being able to experience many cultures just by walking down the street is something that our grandparents might never have imagined. In many global cities today, it's already a reality.
32. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A. A brief history of globalization.
B. The future of economic migrants.
C. The reasons for people's migration.
D. The rise and fall of international migration.
33.What did Christian and Tommaso's study show about European migrants in Britain
A. They used more public services than they contributed to the economy.
B. They benefited from public services less than they dedicated to the economy.
C. They had no significant impact on Britain's economy or public services.
D. They declined Britain's resources while using public services.
34. What is the number mentioned in Paragraph 5 mainly used to show
A. Few migrants send most of their money home.
B. Many migrants become rich after their migration.
C. Migrants help support their home countries.
D. Migrants always choose to move to rich countries.
35. What is the IOM's view about migration
A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Unconcerned
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Mathematics is often considered one of the most challenging subjects for students. Recent surveys report that 37% of teens found math to be harder than other subjects. 36
Attention difficulties
Math often involves multi-step problems, and students need to be able to perform several consecutive steps to find a solution. 37 When complex math procedures are being taught, students often lose focus and become distracted during the lesson. As a result, he or she may miss important steps in the problem-solving process, and later struggle with math on their own.
Math always builds upon previous concepts
Math is built on continuous learning. If a student didn’t fully understand a previous lesson’s concept, they are likely to struggle when newer concepts are introduced. 38 Similarly, to do algebra, students need to be comfortable with multi-step arithmetic (演算). Unfortunately, many struggling students feel hard or embarrassed asking questions in class or at school. Thus, Math concepts are not so well-mastered.
Concepts are learned, but not understood
Often students know how to perform an operation from repetition, but don’t really understand the meaning behind it. We know times-table memorization has always been a staple of elementary school curriculum. However, a student may only know that “4×4 =16” because he or she memorized it, and not because they fully understand the concept of multiplication. 39
Lack of practice or patience
40 Others may not realize they need more time reviewing certain areas. Sometimes a student will feel like they understand a concept, but when attempting to do a problem themselves, they don’t know how to begin (or end up struggling through the process). Students will often feel confident after watching their teacher explain the lesson in class, only to find that doing it independently can be more challenging. Actually, it takes practice and patience to be better at it!
A.Some students don’t believe they can learn math well.
B.To reduce fractions, students need to know division first.
C.This requires staying actively focused on the task at hand.
D.The following strategies may help you one way or another.
E.Take a look at common reasons students struggle with math.
F.Thus, they cannot manage more complex and challenging problems.
G.Many students simply don’t spend enough time practicing math concepts.

For the past two years, I have held the storytelling championship. I was the shining star of my school. When it came to choosing the right candidate to participate in such competitions, I was always the first choice. Naturally, I was once again selected to represent my school in the approaching contest this year.
Upon hearing the fact that I was chosen again, my classmates and friends acknowledged that I would undoubtedly be regarded as the champion again. Consequently, I became so proud that I ignored the importance of practicing for the contest.
A week before the contest, my teacher Ms. Sara asked, “Selena, would you like to stand in front of the class to present your work for the contest ” She had taught me in the past two competitions and knew how important practice was. “Just imagine you are on the stage in the presence of the audience,” she added.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Sara,” I replied. “I have a bit of a sore throat.”
This was usually the lie I would tell whenever my teacher requested me to practice in front of the class. I always found excuses to avoid doing it because I believed that I was the best and therefore the practice was unnecessary. On one occasion, I even told Ms. Sara not to worry too much as I was well prepared for the contest. In fact, I did everything but practice my lines. I only managed to glance briefly through the story the day before the contest. As the best storyteller among the students of the local secondary schools, I was too vain to practice and expected everything to be fine.
The contest was being held in the local community hall. On the day of the contest, the hall was packed. My school teachers and principal were there along with many of my classmates and schoolmates. I was the eighth contestant out of twenty in total. Those who spoke before me did extremely well. On seeing their fascinating and outstanding performance, I began to lose confidence in myself. My palms sweated heavily and I started to feel nervous. Soon, it was my turn to talk.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
With butterflies in my stomach, I breathed deeply.______________________________________
