After a long teaching day, I saw someone searching for a lost key between the seats on a crowded bus. Strangely, my first thought was to ask ChatGPT. This surprised me and made me wonder: What did I think of AI Could it really help
Since ChatGPT appeared, teachers have different views. At first, I found it very useful. It offered me lesson ideas and saved me time. Students used it to understand difficult topics and get writing tips.
But I noticed problems. One student couldn’t remember facts ChatGPT gave him. Another used it to make his writing look smarter, but lost his own style. Using AI for work meant students missed chances to improve their own ideas by revising. I told them: Use AI to help improve your writing, not to do it for you.
I also started using pen and paper more for lesson planning. It was slower, but my ideas felt more real and truly mine. This reminded me that the process of thinking is often more important than just the final result. And as a result, I’d managed to think more clearly.
In a world increasingly led by speed, I learned the best ideas often need time and focus. I’m not against AI, but I need to adjust (调节) its role in my life. My goal is to keep what’s important in teaching: curiosity, critical thinking, and solving problems without always taking shortcuts. I hope my students will, too.
24. What did the author do when seeing someone looking for a key on the bus
A. He reported it to the police. B. He joined in the search for it.
C. He turned a blind eye to it. D. He turned to ChatGPT for help.
25. Why does the author mention his students in paragraph 3
A. To tell they are smart. B. To tell how AI helps them.
C. To show the problems AI brings. D. To prove his teaching job successful.
26. What did the author think of planning his lessons by using pen and paper more
A. It wasted too much of his time. B. It was good for his thinking.
C. It allowed him to get answers quickly. D. It led to losing good teaching methods.
27. What is the author’s attitude towards using AI
A. Careful. B. Hopeless. C. Unclear. D. Negative.

Jane Goodall is a name deeply connected with wildlife protection. Her groundbreaking work, which began in 1960 in Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park, completely changed scientists’ ideas about how smart animals are and what makes humans unique. Without a college degree at first, Goodall used great patience and an open mind to study chimpanzees (黑猩猩). She didn’t see them just as animals, but as individuals with their own personalities, feelings, and social lives.
A key moment came when a chimpanzee she named David Greybeard allowed her to watch him closely. She saw him change a twig (小枝) by removing its leaves and use it to “fish” for termites (白蚁). This was an important discovery because, at that time, scientists believed only humans could make and use tools. This finding challenged the idea that humans were completely different from other animals. As the well-known anthropologist (人类学家) Louis Leakey said, it forced science to rethink the definition of “human.”
Over time, Goodall formed close friendships with the chimpanzees, especially with a mother named Flo and her family. These strong personal connections allowed her to see into their world and deeply understand their family life and social behavior. Her unusual path — earning a PhD from Cambridge University without first getting a bachelor’s degree — showed her strong devotion. Knowing she needed to do more, she started the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) in 1977. This organization leads global protection efforts and runs youth programs like “Roots & Shoots,” while also supporting women in science.
Jane Goodall’s legacy (传承) goes far beyond her scientific discoveries. She showed the world that animals have complex emotions and intelligence, which helps people respect nature more. Even into her nineties, she continued to encourage people to protect wildlife and the environment around them. Through her life’s work, Goodall taught us that understanding and valuing other species is important for the health of our planet and for our own humanity.
28. Why is Jane Goodall’s work called “groundbreaking”
A. Changed views on animal intelligence. B. Proved all animals use tools.
C Created new research methods. D. Showed women can be scientists.
29. How did Goodall discover chimpanzees using tools
A. By reviewing existing theories. B. By doing experiments.
C. By watching David Greybeard. D. By contacting local guides.
30. What does Goodall’s bond with Flo show
A. Long-term studies are effective. B. Tool usage requires long learning.
C. A PhD degree ensures discovery. D. Emotional connection deepens research.
31. How does the text develop its main idea about Goodall
A. By comparing different research methods. B. By moving from discovery to influence.
C. By listing life events in time order. D. By focusing on early African research
D
You have two basic types of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory. Things you see or hear first enter your short-term memory. Very little of this information passes on into your long-term memory. Does this mean you have a bad memory Not at all.
Your short-term memory has a certain job. Its job is to store information for a few seconds only. Your short-term memory is at work when you look up a phone number, call the number, and then forget it. You remembered the number just long enough to use it. Then it disappeared from your memory. That’s really a good thing. Imagine if your memory held every number, every face, and every word you ever knew!
However, some information is important to remember for a longer time. Then it must pass from short-term to long-term memory. Sometimes we tell ourselves to remember something. We might also practice it: “OK, don’t forget: 555-1212, 555-1212.” Usually, we don’t even think about it. Our brain makes the decision for us. It decides to store the information or let it go.
The brain seems to make the decision by asking two questions:
Does the information affect our emotions That is, does it make us happy, sad, excited, or upset
Does the information concern something we already know so our brain can store it with something already there
An answer of “Yes” means that the new information enters long-term memory. That means the brain creates new connections among brain cells.
Information disappears when connections among brain cells become weak. They get weak if time passes and the connections are not used. That’s why it is good to read your lecture notes soon after the class. To keep the memory of something strong, think of it often. For example, look at those lecture notes the next day. Look at them the day after that, too. Every time you think about something, the connections in the brain get stronger. Then it is easier to remember the information when you need it.
32. When is your short-term memory at work
A. You read English words every morning.
B. What you’ve learned is reviewed after class.
C. The impression of a stranger soon disappears after you meet with him/ her.
D. You look up an important phone number and repeat it again and again.
33. What information enters long-term memory according to the passage
A. Information affecting our emotions.
B. Information creating brain cells.
C. Information reaching you first.
D. Information concerning something unfamiliar.
34. How can we keep the long-term memory of lecture notes strong
A. By looking at them after months. B. By referring to them regularly.
C. By putting them away after class. D. By remembering them for a long time for only once.
35. Where is the passage probably taken from
A. A science fiction. B. A news story. C. A book review. D. A popular magazine.

So, I was really excited when our school started its own team. However, I was disappointed to discover I wasn't the natural champion I had imagined I would be! I lost every match I played at the first meeting, and I wanted to give up. Then, at the end of the meeting, our coach talked about an Egyptian athlete, Ibrahim Hamadtou. Despite losing both arms in an accident, he learned to play ping-pong by holding the paddle with his mouth and serving with his feet! He won much respect at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Great Britain's David Wetherill said, “In table tennis, it is skill against skill. I won today, but Hamadtou has shown far more skill than I have.” This story reminded me that skills are learned through practice, and that hard work means more than talent. After that, I tried my best to practice, and I'm now the school's best ping-pong player!

【答案】28. A 29. C 30. D 31. B

On Saturday morning, sunlight streamed into the room through the window. Lily was helping her mother sort out some old things her grandmother had left when a beautiful wooden box fell off the top of a wardrobe (衣柜). The box was unlocked, so curiosity drove her to open it. Inside was a stack of yellowed letters and a black-and-white photo, which showed a young girl standing under a huge oak tree with a bright smile. Lily recognized that it was a photo of her grandmother when she was young. Then she opened the letter with care, which read, “Dear Thomas, I have been missing you since you said goodbye to me under the oak tree...” At that moment, Lily’s heart raced wildly as she discovered a secret she had never heard her family mention before.

【答案】One possible version:
Lily’s hands trembled as she held the letter. Her heart was filled with a mix of curiosity and guilt for prying. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should continue reading. But the desire to discover the secret was too strong. The letter mentioned a deep friendship between her grandmother and a boy named Thomas, who had eventually lived abroad. They promised to write to each other. However, life still pulled them apart. Lily sat on the floor, completely absorbed in piecing together the beautiful yet sad memory from the past.
Just then, her mother walked into the room. Seeing the open box and the letters in Lily’s hands, she looked surprised at first. Anxiously, Lily looked up, afraid she had done something wrong. But gathering her courage, she asked about the story behind the letters. To her relief, her mother smiled softly and sat down beside her. She explained that Thomas had been her grandmother’s pen pal and a very important friend. This discovery created a special bond between Lily and her grandma’s past. She realized that everyone has its own hidden stories, waiting to be understood and cherished.
DeepSeek版(供欣赏)
Lily’s hands trembled as she held the letter. She carefully unfolded the next one, her eyes scanning the faded ink. Thomas, she learned, was a young poet her grandmother had met during the war; they had shared a few precious meetings under that oak tree before he was sent overseas. The letters spoke of promises made—to write, to wait, to meet again when the world was at peace. But the final letter in the stack was different. It was returned to her grandmother, marked "Undeliverable." With a sinking heart, Lily realized that Thomas had vanished, his fate unknown, and her grandmother had kept this cherished memory and unanswered hope locked away for decades. The depth of her grandmother's silent love and loss weighed heavily on her.
Just then, her mother walked into the room. Seeing the open box and the scattered letters in Lily’s lap, she let out a soft sigh, her eyes filled with a knowing sadness. She sat beside Lily and gently explained that her grandmother had rarely spoken of Thomas, but the family knew he was reported missing in action and never returned. "She moved on, married your grandfather, and was happy," her mother said, stroking the photo. "But she kept this box, not out of sorrow, but to honor a beautiful part of her life that helped shape her." She suggested they press a fresh oak leaf between the pages of the letters and keep the box as a cherished family heirloom, a quiet tribute to a love that was lost but never forgotten.
