四、阅读理解(共10小题,每小题1.5分,满分15分)
A
Seasons on Earth are caused by the planet’s tilt as it travels around the sun. The Earth tilts at an angle of 23.5 degrees, which means different parts of the planet get different amounts of sunlight throughout the year.
In spring, the Northern Hemisphere tilts toward the sun. Days get longer, and the temperature rises. Plants start to grow, and animals wake up from hibernation. It’s a season of new life, with flowers blooming and birds building nests.
Summer is the warmest season in the Northern Hemisphere. The hemisphere tilts most toward the sun, so days are the longest and nights are the shortest. The sun shines brightly, and the temperature is high. Many people go to the beach or mountains to cool down. Some areas may have sudden showers in the afternoon, which help refresh the air.
Autumn brings cooler weather and shorter days. The Northern Hemisphere tilts away from the sun slowly. Leaves turn red, yellow, and orange before falling off the trees. Farmers harvest their crops, and animals prepare for winter by storing food. It’s a season of harvest and change.
Winter is the coldest season. The Northern Hemisphere tilts farthest from the sun, so days are the shortest and nights are the longest. In many areas, it snows, and the ground is covered in white. Some animals hibernate, while others adapt to the cold weather. People wear warm clothes and stay indoors more often.
( ) 41. What causes seasons on Earth
A. The Earth’s speed around the sun. B. The Earth’s tilt as it travels around the sun.
C. The environment on the earth. D. The amount of rain in different months.
( ) 42. What happens in spring in the Northern Hemisphere
A. Days are the longest. B. It snows heavily.
C. Leaves turn red and yellow. D. Animals wake up from hibernation.
( ) 43. What can you learn from this passage
A. The hemisphere tilts most toward the sun.
B. Days are the shortest in winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
C. Animals prepare for winter by eating food.
D. All the animals need to hibernate.
B
Plastic has become an important part of daily life. We use plastic bags for shopping, plastic bottles for drinks, and plastic containers for food. It’s cheap and light, that is why it’s so popular. However, this useful material is causing serious problems for the planet and even our health.
Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste enters the oceans worldwide. Marine animals like sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and eat them, leading to injury or death. Seabirds get tangled in plastic rings from soda bottles, and their wings may be hurt so they can’t fly. Even tiny pieces of plastic, called microplastics, are found in fish and other sea animals. When humans eat these animals, microplastics can enter our bodies, which might be harmful over time. On land, plastic waste piles up in landfills and takes hundreds of years to degrade. It pollutes soil and water, affecting plants and animals that live on land too.
The good news is that we can all take action to reduce plastic pollution. We can carry reusable shopping bags instead of using single-use plastics. Recycling plastic products, such as bottles, boxes, and toys, also helps save resources and cut down on waste. Schools and communities can organize activities like beach cleanups or campus recycling drives to collect plastic waste.
Small changes in our daily lives can make a big difference. For example, refusing plastic straws when buying drinks, or using cloth bags for groceries. By working together, we can protect the planet from plastic pollution and create a cleaner environment for everyone.
( ) 44. What does the underlined word “injury” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. 消失 B. 危险 C. 伤害 D. 生存
( ) 45. What do we know about microplastics
A. They are reusable plastic products. B. They are large pieces of plastic waste.

① Use more single-use plastic bottles. ② Throw plastic waste in landfills only.
③ Carry reusable shopping bags. ④ Recycle plastic products.
A. ③④ B. ①② C. ①③ D. ②④

Soon after we arrived, the whole family sat down at the table for dinner. The farmer put me on the table, with some small pieces of bread and meat. I was very afraid of falling off the table. The farmer and his family were happy to watch me eating with my small knife and fork.
But when I started walking across the table to the farmer, his youngest son, a boy of about ten, picked me up by the legs. He held me so high in the air that my whole body was shaking. Luckily his father told him not to do so and took me away at once. But I remembered how bad children can be to small animals. So I decided to forgive him. I fell on my knees and asked them not to punish the child any more. They seemed to understand.
Just then I heard a noise behind me. It sounded like twelve machines running at the same time. I turned my head and saw a huge cat, three times larger than one of our cows. The farmer’s wife held it in her arms, so that it could not jump at me. But in fact, because I showed no fear, there was no danger, and the cat even seemed a little afraid of me.
At the end of dinner, a lady came in with the farmer’s one-year-old son in her arms. He started crying at once, because he wanted to play with me. His mother smiled and put me in his hand. When he picked me up and put my head in his mouth, I shouted so loudly that he dropped me. Luckily, I was not hurt, but it showed me how dangerous life was going to be in Brobdingnag.

六、阅读回答问题(共3小题;55题1分,56题2分,57题2分;满分5分)
The traditional Chinese calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. These solar terms follow the changes of the seasons and the weather. “Start of Spring”, “Start of Summer”, “Start of Autumn” and “Start of Winter” mark the beginning of each season. Therefore, they divide the year into four seasons. Each of the seasons is then divided into six parts, and each part lasts about 15 days. The solar terms can fall on different dates. Start of Winter usually begins on November 7 or November 8. Here are some customs we Chinese people often have during this period.
Drinking mutton soup
In many places in China, there’s a tradition of drinking mutton soup on this day, and you won’t fear the cold throughout the winter. Mutton is rich in fats, proteins and calories, making it a good choice when the weather gets cold. Having a bowl of mutton soup not only warms the weak body but also provides a pleasant experience.
Eating tangyuan
Eating tangyuan is a traditional custom, especially popular in the south of the Yangtze River. Tangyuan is a must-have food for people there, because “Yuan” means “getting together”.
Eating dumplings
In many parts of northern China, it is a custom to eat dumplings. People in northern China eat dumplings on this day because dumplings have the meaning of “cold”, and there is still a folk saying that goes “Eat dumplings on Start of Winter, or your ears will be frostbitten”.
Making winter wine
Start of Winter is a good day to start making yellow wine in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, as the water is usually clearer at this time and the low temperature restricts the growth of germs, perfect for the flavor during the fermenting process.
Besides these customs, we should also pay attention to some other things during this time. As the weather gets colder and colder, we need to wear gloves, hats and warm cotton-padded shoes to keep ourselves warm. We also need to do exercise, such as choosing some indoor sports to keep our body strong.
