Explore the Emerald Valley National Park!
Welcome to Emerald Valley National Park a beautiful park in the Pacific Northwest! Set up in 1998, it covers over 1,500 square kilometers of wonderful scenery. The park got its name from the emerald-green color of its largest lake, Lake Serenity, which is filled with clear mountain water.

◆Entrance Fee: The park entrance is free for visitors under 12. For adults, it’s $10 per person, which includes access to all public areas.
◆Best Time to Visit: While beautiful all year round, the park is at its best from July to October when the weather is mild and the wildflowers are in full bloom.
◆Please Remember: To protect its natural beauty, you can only camp in special areas, and drones (无人机) are not allowed at all. If you’d like to contribute, the park organizes a “Clean Trail” volunteer program every first Sunday of the month — no need to book in advance, just show up!

Venus Williams was 17 when she played against her 16-year-old sister Serena at the 1998 Australian Open. Venus won that match and their second meeting at the Italian Open. Together, the sisters have won 122 singles titles, including 30 Grand Slam singles titles and they’ve won 22 doubles titles as teammates.
Their success comes not just from talent, but also from their father Richard Williams’ devotion and effort. In the 1980s, locals saw the Williams were learning the game so that they could pass it on to their daughters. Venus started lessons at age 4, and Serena soon joined. They practiced from early morning until night, sometimes hitting hundreds of balls before taking a break.
The Williams family lived in Compton, California—a neighborhood troubled by drugs and violence in the 1980s. Local parks and courts (网球场) were controlled by gangs (帮派). Richard sometimes got hurt while protecting the courts, but he never gave up. “It almost destroyed my body and spirit,” he wrote later, “but the courts were ours.” Not only did Richard win, but some gang members even began to serve as unofficial security guards during their practice sessions. The Williams sisters got through every problem and danger—even when they heard gunshots nearby.
In 1991, the family moved to Florida for better training. Coach Rick Macci was surprised by their strong wish to get every ball. Even as they trained with professionals (专业人员), Richard stayed strict. He used old tennis balls to make them run faster and even used broken glass on the court to test their focus. The sisters didn’t join junior tournaments (联赛). Instead, they turned professional early—Venus at 14 in 1994, and Serena a year later.
24. What can we learn about the Williams sisters
A. They began playing tennis in Florida.
B. They have each won 22 doubles titles.
C. They have won 122 singles titles in total.
D. Serena beat Venus at the 1998 Australian Open.
25. Why did the Williams sisters’ parents learn tennis in the 1980s
A. To stay in good health. B. To join the local tennis club.
C. To become professional players. D. To teach the sport to their daughters.
26. What difficulties have the Williams sisters gone through
A. They trained in a dangerous neighborhood.
B. They could hardly use Compton’s courts.
C. They had to stop tennis training because of gunshots.
D. They were often physically harmed by gang members.
27. Why is Coach Rick Macci mentioned
A. To show how strict Richard was. B. To prove the sisters worked hard.
C. To introduce his training methods. D. To explain why the sisters moved to Florida.

Humanoid robots, which are designed to look and move like humans, are no longer just in science fiction. They are stepping into our real world, performing tasks that were once only possible for humans. These robots usually have cameras for eyes, microphones for ears, and advanced sensors that allow them to sense their environment and respond accordingly. They can walk on two legs, hold objects with flexible (灵活的) fingers, and keep balance like humans. This is a great achievement in modern engineering.
Building humanoid robots requires many advanced technologies working together. Artificial intelligence (AI) serves as the robot’s “brain”, enabling it to process information, recognize voices and faces, and make decisions. At the same time, mechanics and electronics work together to control its movements, making them smooth and natural. Some robots can even dance, climb stairs, or carry breakable things safely. Scientists are still improving their design so that robots can work better in places like factories or disaster sites.
Why do people want to build robots that look like humans One key reason is that our world — our tools, cars, and buildings — is largely built for the human form. A robot with a similar body structure can fit into existing environments without the need to redesign everything. This advantage makes them ideal for helping the elderly, working in hospitals, or exploring dangerous areas where it is unsafe for people to go. They are not meant to replace humans, but to work with us and take over boring or risky jobs.
Looking ahead, scientists believe humanoid robots will become more common in daily life. However, challenges remain, including high costs, power use, and how to make them friendly and safe to talk to. The goal is not to create perfect human copies, but to build helpful partners that make life better.
28. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the first paragraph
A. To compare robots with science fiction.
B. To explain how to build humanoid robots.
C. To introduce some basic information about humanoid robots.
D. To show the history of robot development.
29. What is the role of artificial intelligence in humanoid robots
A. To reduce the cost of robot production.
B. To process information and make decisions.
C. To design the robot’s human-like appearance.
D. To control the robot’s mechanical movements.
30. What do the underlined words “This advantage” in paragraph 3 refer to
A. The ability to replace human workers completely.
B. The ability to learn new skills independently.
C. The ability to perform tasks without any energy.
D. The ability to fit into environments made for humans.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. The History of Robot Development B. Humanoid Robots: Our Future Helpers
C. How AI Controls Humanoid Robots D. The Challenges in Robotics Design

Keeping mentally healthy is important for living a fulfilling life, dealing with stressful situations, learning well, working effectively, and realizing our goals. So it’s important to take action to improve and protect our mental health and well-being (幸福).
A new study from Curtin University in Western Australia looked at 15 common daily activities that may help protect people’s mental health. The researchers found that the best activities are easy to do, cheap, and need no special tools.
In the study, 603 adults were asked by phone about their physical and mental health. They also answered how often they took part in 15 mental-health protective activities, such as visiting family, spending time outdoors, doing exercise, meeting friends, reading, doing puzzles, learning a new language and so on.
The researchers used a short questionnaire (问卷调查) with 14 questions to measure (衡量) each person’s mental well-being. The total score could be between 14 and 70 — the higher the score, the better a person felt mentally.
The results showed that people who often chatted with others or spent time in nature had much better mental health. For example, people who chatted with other people one to six times a week recorded 5.8 points higher well-being scores than those who did so less often.
“Regular connection with others — even a daily chat — can make a big difference to how people feel,” said lead author Professor Christina Pollard, from Curtin’s School of Population Health. “Similarly, spending time outdoors or doing something that requires thinking and focusing, like doing crosswords, reading, or learning a new language, gives your mind a good rest.”
The researchers said their findings show that society should support people to take actions that keep them mentally healthy. “This research proves that when people are supported and encouraged to do things that keep their mental health healthy, the benefits (益处) can be felt across the community,” said Pollard. “It’s about prevention, not just treatment — helping people stay mentally well before problems become serious.”
32. What is the main goal of Curtin University’s study
A. To know the cause of mental illness.
B. To find activities benefiting mental health.
C. To test the effect of mental health treatment.
D. To compare global mental health treatments.
33. How did researchers get the data (数据) for the study
A. By online survey.
B. Using wearable technology.
C Through telephone interviews.
D. Through laboratory experiments.
34. What does the study suggest about improving mental health
A. Preventing mental health problems is key.
B. People should talk to doctors more often.
C. Spending time outdoors is the most important.
D. Personal feelings are the only thing that matters.
35. Which of the following can be inferred from the text
A. The 14-question questionnaire is still being used.
B. Medicine is more effective than social connection.
C. Most adults had serious mental problems before.
D. Simple daily habits can greatly improve well-being.

Lily, 16, had been arguing with her mom all week.
“You never let me go out! You don’t trust me!” she shouted one evening.
“I just want you safe,” Mom said quietly, but Lily slammed (猛关) her door without listening.
That night, while looking for her lost earring under the bed, Lily found an old notebook. It was her mom’s diary — the cover worn, the pages yellowed. Curious, she opened it and read the first entry, dated ten years ago:
March 12,2015
Today, Lily fell and hurt her knee. She cried so hard. I held her all night. My baby is growing, but I’m scared — what if one day I can’t protect her What if she gets lost Or hurt Or worse... what if she stops needing me
Another entry, five years ago:
She got her first A in math. I wanted to cheer, but I only said “Good job.” I know I’m not like other moms — I don’t hug much or say “I love you” often. But every night, I check if her window is locked. Every morning, I pack her favorite snack, even when she says she’s too old. I love her more than words can say.
Lily’s hands trembled (颤抖) as she read these words. She remembered how Mom always “happened” to be at the bus stop, how her lunchbox always had an extra banana, how her coat was always hanging by the door on rainy days — even if Mom was at work. She thought of her own sharp words just hours ago. Tears fell onto the page. She had thought Mom didn’t care.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Lily closed the diary and sat quietly by the bedside.

C. The human development.
19. Where was the skull (颅骨) found
A. At a farm. B. At a museum. C. At a building site.
20. What makes the skull different from other ancient humans
A. The small brain. B. Square eye sockets (眼窝). C. The big mouth.
【答案】18. A 19. C 20. B
【原文】I would like to tell you about research by scientists in China on an ancient skull, which suggests that they may have discovered a completely new species of human being. The skull was discovered at a building site in China nearly 90 years ago. A family kept it until a farmer decided to give it to a university museum in 2018. Since then, scientists in China have been studying the skull, doing different experiments, and using X-rays to compare it with other old bones. Then they said that it is a new species of ancient human. They named the discovery “Dragon Man”. The skull is large, and able to hold a big brain. The bone over the eyes is thick and the eye sockets are almost square. These make it different from other ancient humans. However, some scientists have questioned whether it is really a new species. Other scientists have supported the findings and so the discussion continues. It is hoped that more bones will be discovered and help to fill in the gaps in human history.

【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. D

【答案】Dear Mr. Dave,
How are you I’m writing to share an unforgettable housework experience from my holiday — cleaning my grandma’s living room.
It was unforgettable not because of the hard work, but because of the stories behind every old item we found. My grandma told me family histories as we cleaned each dusty corner. I smiled at yellowed photos and was moved by a faded letter.
This experience taught me that housework is not just about cleaning, but also about love and family connection. I felt a deep sense of warmth and happiness.
Best regards,
Li Hua

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Lily closed the diary and sat quietly by the bedside.

The next morning, Mom was making breakfast in the kitchen as usual.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Lily closed the door and sat quietly by the bedside. Tears rolling down her cheeks, she stared at the sleeping mother, whose face, though tired, looked beautiful under the dim night light. Heart aching with regret, she recalled every cold word she had thrown like stones into the silence. Hand trembling, she gently placed the diary back where she found it, as if returning not just a notebook, but a piece of love. Not once had Mom failed to protect her — the locked window, the umbrella by the window in her lunchbox — all a spoke of love without words.
The next morning, Mom was washed up and ready for the kitchen as usual. Seeing her best over the sleep, Lily walked slowly, then wrapped her arms around her from behind. Mom spoke, spoon in hand, “Mom.” Lily whispered, voice broken, “read your diary.” Mom turned around, eyes wet with tears, and held her tightly. For the first time in years, they shared a long, warm hug. At that moment, Lily felt what words could never say: love is not always loud; sometimes, it’s a silent presence, a warm meal, a mother’s watchful heart.
