Dear Mr. Johnson,
On behalf of the Student Union, I am writing to invite you to be a mentor for our upcoming Green Campus Action Week, aiming to promote environmental awareness on campus.
We have planned two core projects: a Creative Recycling Workshop and a project for Designing English Labels for Campus Plants. Given your passion for hands-on activities and your expertise in practical English, we believe you would be an ideal guide for the Recycling Workshop. Your involvement could inspire students to transform waste into valuable items while learning relevant English vocabulary.
We would greatly appreciate your support. Please let us know your decision at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
读后续写:
Para 1: Just at that moment, Luella’s family returned in their car. Empathy surged within me as I saw the shock and disbelief on their faces. I couldn’t help but approach Luella, tightly holding her hands and saying, “I’m so sorry for your loss, but thankfully you’re all right.” She weakly nodded at me, still appearing puzzled by the devastating sight. My family volunteered to help hers clean up the mess, cutting down the branches and removing the fallen trees from the yard. To uplift Luella’s spirits and bring her comfort, I tried my best to cheer her up while tidying the garden with her, during which my own joyful personality seemed to revive a bit.
Para 2: Even after the debris was cleared, I could still sense Luella’s sorrow for her lost garden. My heart went out to her, knowing how much she had cherished those tulips that she had devoted so much energy to. Yet now, they were all gone. Determined to restore the beauty that once thrived, I suggested that we rebuild the garden. Luella agreed delightedly. With each bulb carefully planted and watered, the new tulip seedlings once again filled the garden, which symbolized the sprouting of a new friendship between us, as well as the turning that I finally got embraced by this new environment. My mom was right: it’s more blessed to give than to receive because when you give. You may receive something unexpected in return.
附听力材料
Text 1:
M: Can you tell me where you were born
W: I was born in England, but I spent most of my childhood in India, where I was brought up by my grandparents. Believe it or not. I’m leaving for China for further study.
Text 2:
W: Why do we have to move Our new flat is big, quiet and clean. I don’t think we can find a better one.
M: I also love our flat very very much. But look at the rent. It’s too expensive.
Text 3:
W: Hello, Jimmy. I like the pictures of your village. Tell us something more about your hometown.
M: Our village is so beautiful and peaceful with a long history. But it’s really too far away from here. To my relief, more modern railways have been built near my hometown.
Text 4:
M: Hurry up. We’ll be late for the play.
W: It’s only 6 o’clock now. The play won’t start until 6:30. It only takes 10 minutes to get there. There will be plenty of time if we leave at 6:15.
M: All right.
Text 5:
M: This machine didn’t clean my clothes very well. I had to wash everything twice.
W: Really Did you put a lot of clothes there
M: Yeah. I filled it to the top.
W: Oh, that’s the problem. You put in too much clothing.
Text 6:
W: Can I help you, sir
M: I’m here for the backpack you announced several minutes ago.
W: OK, take a seat, please. First of all, can you show me your ID, please
M: Sure. Here you are.
W: OK, could you please tell me what your backpack looks like
M: Of course. It’s a soft leather one. You know, not every sports one that looks childish.
W: OK, can you name the items in it
M: Well, all the gifts for my family, toys for my children and a bottle of perfume for my wife.
W: OK, sir. I’m sure it’s your bag. Thank you for your cooperation. You can have it now.
M: Thank you so much.
Text 7:
W: Daddy, are you going to the park with us this weekend
M: May, I have a lot of work to do.
W: So you can’t go with us, right
M: Sorry, I can’t.
W: Daddy, you always arrange your schedule so tight on weekdays. You should have a rest on weekends.
M: What park do you want to go to
W: Daniel wants to go to the Ocean Park while Mom wants to visit the Summer Palace.
M: Haven’t we been to these places already
W: Yeah. I don’t agree with them, but I don’t have a better choice.
M: What about the Olympic Park
W: Right. It’s so close to our home. How come I’ve never thought of that
M: The Olympic Park has a small forest. It is fit for a picnic.
W: Very well. Go ahead.
Text 8:
M: Where shall we go for our holiday this year, Joan
W: I think we will go to Shanghai.
M: No, I want to go away from the east. I’d rather go somewhere else.
W: What about Tibet There are lots of places of interest there.
M: Tibet Don’t be silly. You know, it is not convenient to go there.
W: Well, in fact, it’s quite easy now since there is a newly-built railway between Qinghai and Tibet.
M: Oh, yes, I forgot that. Then, is it expensive to go by train
W: No. A ticket for a soft sleeper from Beijing to Lhasa costs a bit more than 1,000 yuan. So it’s really both convenient and cheap to go there by train.
M: When is the best time to travel there
W: In summer. We can see lakes, sand and many rare animals like Tibetan antelopes.
M: Oh, wonderful. I can’t wait to go!
Text 9:
W: Can you tell us a little bit about your current project What are you working on now
M: I’m writing a book about some of the most important technological inventions of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It’s about how things like the typewriter or the fax machine were developed, and so on.
W: That sounds really interesting.
M: It is. It’s fascinating. It is particularly fun to read about the personalities behind the inventions. Like... a lot of inventors were amateurs, and some of them were considered to be crazy! But they had this incredible determination. They believed absolutely in what they were doing.
W: Um.
M: Take George Eastman for example. He was a photographer and he was about to go on vacation to the Caribbean to take pictures. But then the night before he was supposed to leave, he looked at all that he had to take, and in the 1870s, if you wanted to have a photo, you know, you had to carry glass plates and chemicals and equipment and so on — and he said to himself, “I’m not carrying all the stuff. There’s going to be an easier way to take photographs!” So he canceled his vacation, quit his job, stayed home, and invented film instead.
W: That’s great!
Text 10:
M: Bob Dylan was born on May 2th, 1941. When he was young, his father became sick. As a result, his family moved to the small town of Hibbing, Minnesota. In high school, Bob Dylan started his own musical groups. He played popular rock and roll songs. In 1959, he went to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. He left college after one year, but in Minneapolis he became interested in folk music. He also changed the direction of his life. In 1961, he moved to New York City. The artistic life of New York provided a rich musical education that the young Bob Dylan could not have received anywhere else. Much of it came from listening to folk performers in the Greenwich Village. He played in bars and clubs, and became part of a loose community of performers. They shared traditional songs and added their own touches to create a living art form. A defining moment in Bob Dylan’s career came in the 1960s. The people brought protests against American expansion of the war in Vietnam. For many listeners in those early years, Bob Dylan was singing about the problems and issues of their time. The press called him a poet of his generation.
