Are your bananas turning brown too quickly Scientists have used technology to create a special 51
that doesn't turn brown fast. It's called gene - editing (基因编辑) technology, The Guardian reported.
The special banana was 52 by Tropic, a business in Norwich, UK. These bananas stay fresh and yellow
for a longer time. They smell and taste just as sweet as 53 ones. Bananas are the fourth biggest product in
the world. 54 , about 50 percent of the bananas grown are never eaten. In fact, because of going bad easily,
most of them are 55 .
Bananas turn brown because of enzymatic browning (酶 促 褐 变 ). A key enzyme is called PPO. By
"silencing" the gene that "tells" bananas to make PPO, Tropic scientists 56 slowed down the browning.
Another thing that makes bananas brown is ethylene (乙烯). Ethylene is a thing that helps fruits ripen (成熟).
Bananas 57 much ethylene by themselves. As a result, they keep ripening even after they are picked. Other
fruits near them also ripen faster.
This 58 could help reduce food waste and fight against hunger. According to the United Nations, the
number of people going 59 around the world has been rising since 2014. At the same time, about 13.2

Booking a museum ticket this past summer was not easy. Visitors often found that tickets for the following
week had been fully booked. Across China, museum halls were filled with visitors during the summer
vacation. To many museums, such crowds had not often been seen before. So, what was behind this "museum
craze (狂热)"
Part of the reason is a growing interest in traditional Chinese culture, according to Guo Sike, leader of the
Confucius Museum in Shandong province.
"Nowadays, young Chinese love traditional Chinese culture," said Guo. He added that modern
technologies have also played a role. They allow people to experience traditional culture in more ways.
The Shaanxi History Museum in the city of Xi'an also saw an increase in visitors. The museum can only
allow 12,000 people to visit each day. Its ticket booking app, however, received more than 600,000 clicks a
day. To solve the problem, the museum called off its Monday rest. It was also open for more hours on
Sundays.
Popular study tours also helped bring more people to museums. The Confucius Museum saw many of
these tours. In Xi'an, the Qinqiang Opera was a popular subject of study tours. Local museums offered chances
to learn the culture.
"Museums are bridges. They connect the past, present and future," said Yang Chaoming, a professor at
Shandong University. "More and more people wish to better learn about traditional Chinese culture through
museum visits."
61. What can we know according to Guo Sike
A. The Confucius Museum is playing an important role.
B. Modern technologies can greatly help to book tickets.
C. More and more Chinese enjoy our traditional culture.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is part of our everyday life. It makes our smart devices work. You might
already be using an AI programme in school. But advanced chatbots, like ChatGPT, are new. They're called
generative (生成的) AI. Ask a chatbot a question, and it will create an answer. Some educators worry that
chatbots could prevent students from learning on their own. Should students use AI to do their school
homework Here are two students' different answers.
YES
Teaching kids how to use AI can prepare them for our technology - filled future. Using AI can help kids
build the critical thinking (批判思维) and problem - solving skills. And it's better that students learn about AI's
limitations now: its biases (偏见), its potential (可能性) to spread misinformation, and the ways it could be
misused. I believe that as long as it's done well, teaching AI in schools will change society for the better. Either
you move with the times, or the times will move without you!
——Alexa, 11, Seattle
NO
Though generative AI will be popularly used in the future, we shouldn't introduce it into schools for a few
reasons. First, chatbots and other AI programmes are getting more and more advanced every day. Teachers
might not know how to best integrate (使融合) them into their classes. Second, think of the cost to schools.
Many wouldn't be able to afford the latest technology, and that's not fair to students. And most of all, AI lacks
the humanity and emotion that kids get from a teacher. That human connection is important. A chatbot just
feeds students information. But teachers know how to help students keep information.
——Ninis Twumasi, 12, New York
65. Which of the following statements in Paragraph 1 is TRUE
A. AI is part of our everyday life.
B. AI can make smart devices work all the time.
C·AI would finish all the homework for students.
D. Chatbots could prevent students from learning by themselves.
66. According to Alexa, what is NOT the limitation of AI
A. AI's biases. B. Build the critical thinking.
C. The ways AI could be misused. D. AI's potential to spread misinformation.
67. What does the underlined sentence aim to tell us
A. Students should be allowed to use AI technology.
B. Students who don't use AI have trouble succeeding.
C. AI will become less and less important in the future.
D. Don't move with the times, and don't follow the AI technology.
68. What is the statement Alexa and Ninis both agreed about AI
A. AI can help students solve problems.
B. Schools cannot afford the cost of the latest technology.
C. In the future, generative AI will be used more and more popularly.
D. Teachers can easily use chatbots and other AI programmes in classes.
