Although the piano keys come in black and white, the music it produces is full of color. Chinese pianist Tian Jiaxin explores creative performances and crossover cooperations with traditional Chinese music, with the hope of bringing the music of the East to the Western world.
Tian attended regular school instead of studying at a music school in her childhood. This enabled her to absorb China’s rich culture and understand the bigger picture later in her pursuit of a career as a professional pianist. “There’s so much to grasp when explaining a piece. What we’re conveying is not only the notes, but the culture behind the music,” Tian said.
As a Chinese pianist, Tian is looking to add more depth to her performances, stressing the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures. “No matter which country I am performing in, I always include Chinese music in my program. With Western pieces, I hope to show the world that a female musician from China can perform the music that they are familiar with and love.” Tian says that she believes her mission is to make China heard on a wider stage.
Tian believes that music is developing over time and that music from different ages has its own unique meaning. “I’ve found that people’s understanding of Chinese music is often limited to certain pieces like Jasmine Flower,” Tian said. “However, there are so many great pieces of Chinese music that are unacquainted outside of China. So, I always try to feature both the time-honored classics of Chinese music and the newly created pieces,” she added.
“Chinese music has the magic to cause resonance(共鸣)with the audience and convey the various and deep culture of Chinese civilization,” Tian said.
54. What can we learn about Tian Jiaxin from the first two paragraphs
A. She went to music school at a young age.
B. She adapted some well-known Chinese pieces.
C. She is a professional pianist known for her unique style.
D. She believes the culture behind each piece should be conveyed.
55. Which of the following best explains “unacquainted” underlined in Paragraph 4
A. Unknown. B. Unpopular. C. Unacceptable. D. Unlimited.
56. What does Tian say about Chinese music
A. It is setting the fashion. B. It develops at a low speed.
C. It delivers rich culture of China. D. It holds little appeal for foreigners.
57. What can be the most suitable title for the text
A. Differences Between Eastern and Western Music
B. Chinese Culture Fueling International Music Trends
C. A Pianist Combing Chinese Music with Western Keys
D. A New Generation of Artists Promoting Chinese Culture

Imagine you’ve planned a wonderful trip for your family. But rather than being excited, your kids complain about missing an after-school club meeting at a neighbor’s house. Missing the event causes such intense FOMO (fear of missing out) that they don’t want to go on your amazing trip.
If this kind of situation sounds familiar, you’re not alone. A recent study finds that FOMO often arises when people miss events with meaningful social connections. It’s not about the dinner or the food—it’s about missing the chance to connect with people who matter to you. Being left out can make you feel disconnected, even worried about losing your status(地位)in the group.
Researchers conducted a series of experiments to find simple ways to reduce FOMO. In one experiment, 788 participants were asked to look through their social media until they saw a post of a missed social event. The researchers asked half of these participants to immediately describe how much FOMO they were feeling. The rest followed the same steps, except that before expressing how much FOMO they were feeling, they were asked to think back to a previous experience socializing with their friends. Encouragingly, there was a significant drop in the level of FOMO they reported.
Therefore, missing out on social bonding experiences doesn’t have to be anxiety-provoking. In fact, in our activity-packed lives, missing some “must-attend” events may be a welcome relief —especially if you remind yourself that your place with your friends is safe, which has led to a recent wave called JOMO, or “Joy of Missing Out”.
According to Stuart Smalley, the self-help expert of a 1990s TV show “Saturday Night Live”, reminding yourself that “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough and people like me!” might be just the trick to lessen FOMO.
58. What may cause FOMO according to the study
A. The absence from fun activities. B. The missing of social connections.
C. The change of planned events. D. The misunderstanding of parents.
59. What helps to reduce FOMO in the experiment
A. Reducing time on social media. B. Raising status in the society.
C. Recalling moments with friends. D. Describing the level of FOMO.
60. Why does the author mention Stuart Smalley in the last paragraph
A. To offer a way to reduce FOMO. B. To introduce a famous TV show.
C. To explain the origin of the concept. D. To show the development of science.
61. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Feeling FOMO: Causes of Social Anxiety
B. Choosing JOMO: Benefits of Missing Out
C. Exploring FOMO: Comparing it with JOMO
D. Practicing JOMO: Learning to Overcome FOMO
D
Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are indicating that accurate quake forecasting(预测) may be achievable, thereby throwing doubt on the common wisdom that such an accomplishment is beyond what we can do. Researchers at the University of Texas, Austin, created an AI model that, during a test run in China, correctly forecasted about 70 percent of earthquakes with a one-week warning and offered reliable assessments of their potential intensity.
The researchers owe their technique’s effectiveness to its reliance on a straightforward machine learning framework(框架). The AI was provided with a set of statistical features based on the team’s knowledge of earthquake physics, and then instructed to train itself using a five-year database of earthquake recordings. Once trained, the AI offered predictions by detecting early indicators of quakes hidden within the planet’s low-frequency rumbles(隆隆声).
The project marks a big breakthrough in the exploration of AI for predicting seismic(地震)events. According to Alexandros Savvaidis, a senior researcher heading the Texas Seismological Network, “Seismic occurrences strike without warning, often in the blink of an eye. Your readiness is all you can influence. Achieving a 70% prediction rate is a considerable achievement that could significantly restrict the impact of earthquakes, reducing both the financial burden and loss of life, and the potential to remarkably improve earthquake preparation worldwide.”
Although the effectiveness of this method in different regions remains uncertain, the researchers believe that their AI model has the potential to improve prediction accuracy when carried out in regions equipped with dependable seismic monitoring facilities. Their next step is to test artificial intelligence in Texas, where the University of Texas’s TexNet operates a network of 300 earthquake stations and over six years’ worth of continuous records, making it an ideal location for these purposes.
Ultimately, the authors aim to combine the system with physics-based models. This approach could be particularly valuable in areas characterized by limited or inadequate data. “That may be a long way off, but many advances such as this one, taken together, are what moves science forward,” concludes Scott Tinker, the organization’s director.
62. How does the AI predict earthquakes
A. By using a simple machine learning system.
B. By identifying hidden signs in the rumbles.
C. By relying on experts’ earthquake knowledge.
D. By analyzing data of earthquake recordings.
63. What does Alexandros Savvaidis intend to show in paragraph 3
A. The ways to reduce losses in earthquakes.
B. The importance of preparing for earthquakes.
C. The significance of developing the AI prediction.
D. The restrictions of AI-based methods in earthquake prediction.
64. What does the following research focus on
A. Conducting tests in different locations.
B. Applying the AI approach to other fields.
C. Building more earthquake stations in Texas.
D. Enlarging the database to train the calculation accuracy.
65. Which words can best describe the earthquake-predicting technology
A. Stable but outdated. B. Effective but costly.
C. Eco-friendly and economical. D. Pioneering and promising.

Exercise is a key part of staying healthy. 66 If you’re not used to physical activity, start slow. Whenever you work out, always listen to your body’s limits(极限), and ask your doctor for advice if you have a history of any medical problems.
67 Varying your activities can help keep you from getting bored, which can encourage you to stay on track. What’s more, changing your workouts will exercise your whole body and help avoid injury.
Go for bike rides. When you’re just starting off, go for easy bike rides around your neighbourhood or at a park. At first, try cycling for around 3 miles in 30 minutes, then gradually increase your speed and distance. As you get used to being active, try to work your way up to 5 miles in 30 minutes. 68
Start doing yoga. Apart from improving balance and flexibility(灵活性), yoga can improve concentration and help you keep stress levels in check. You could take classes at a local gym, community centre, or practise at home using online or DVD guides. 69 Adding a social part can make staying active more fun.
Spending most of your day sitting in a desk chair does great harm to your body. Try using a standing desk. If that’s not for you, just do your best to take regular breaks to get up and walk around. 70 Since you’ll need to use your main muscles to keep yourself safe on the ball, it’s a bit like a workout even though you’re seated.
A. Finally, choose to cover 4 miles in 15 minutes.
B. Mix up your everyday exercise to keep things interesting.
C. But finding out how to get more active can be challenging.

Text 10 (Q17-20)
M: People all over the world enjoy sports. Sports helped people keep healthy and happy, helping them to live longer. Sports change with the seasons. People play different games in winter and summer. Games and sports often grow out of people’s work and everyday activities. The Arabs use horses or camels in much of their everyday life. They use them in their sports too. Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football for example, has spread around the world. Swimming as popular in all countries near the sea or those with many rivers. Some sports or games go back two thousands of years like running or jumping. Chinese boxing for example, has a very long history. But basketball and volleyball are rather new. Neither one is two hundred years old yet. People are inventing new sports or games all the time. People from different countries may not be able to understand each other, but after a game, they often become good friends. Sports helped to train a person’s character. One learns to fight hard but fight fair to win without pride and to lose with dignity.
