第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
My parents never once spoke of the stress of having to pay for college, but I knew full well that it was there. Therefore, when my French teacher announced that she would lead an optional class trip to Paris over one of our breaks for those who could come up with the money to do it, I didn’t even bother to raise the issue at home.
Yet one evening my parents sat me down, looking puzzled. My mom had learned about the France trip through my friend’s mom.
“Why didn’t you tell us ” she said.
“Because it costs too much money.”
“That’s actually not for you to decide, Michelle,” my dad said gently, almost offended.
“And how are we supposed to decide, if we don’t even know about it ”
I looked at both, unsure of what to say. My mother glanced at me, her eyes soft. My father had changed out of his work uniform and into a clean white shirt. They were in their early forties then, married nearly twenty years. Neither one of them had ever vacationed in Europe. They never took beach trips or went out to dinner. They didn’t own a house. We were their investment, me and my brother. Everything went into us.
A few months later, I boarded a flight to Paris with my teacher and a dozen or so of my classmates from Whitney Young. We would stay in a hostel, tour the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. We’d buy snacks from stands on the street and walk along the banks of the Seine. We’d speak French like a group of high school kids from Chicago.
As the plane pulled away from its gate that day, I looked out of my window back at the airport, knowing that my mother stood somewhere behind its black - glass windows, dressed in her winter coat and waving me on. I remember all the details. I remember the jet engines firing, shockingly loud. And then we were rattling down the runway and beginning to tilt upward as the speeding up seized my chest and pressed me backward into my seat for that strange, in - between moment that comes before finally you feel lifted.

I met my husband in our early 20s when we worked together. We were both very ambitious and loved our jobs. But just after we got married, I became pregnant (怀孕的). For six years, I was a stay-at-home mum.
I did enjoy it when the kids were little, but when they both started school, I began to feel bored and restless. So I got in touch with an old colleague and she offered me a job. However, my husband said that he earned enough salary so he couldn’t countenance that. He put lots of barriers (障碍) in my way. For example, he said that he wouldn’t be able to take any time off if the kids were off school.
It’s not just about the income for me. But it’s more the sense of achievement that comes with working. I miss the jokes and the sense of achievement after a good day. I know it won’t be easy but I want to give it a try.
So why is my husband so unsupportive My friend, Coleen, says, “Because he’s incredibly selfish. I know exactly how you feel. I also got increasingly bored in my kitchen every day when my kids were at school so I went out and got a little part-time job in a shop. My husband didn’t like it at first either, but he soon got used to it. So stick to your goals. If he really insists and refuses to help you, then prove to him that you don’t need his help anyway.”

The first time Mohamed went to a restaurant in his new neighborhood, he realized that he wasn’t in Tunis anymore. He was excited when he first arrived here, but now, his excitement seemed gone.

Robert didn’t raise up his head, but he knew clearly that those guys were wearing big smiles on their faces. “How lucky they are!” Robert thought to himself. He admired everyone who had his own bike. He had dreamed many times that he was one of those who were on their bikes to and from school. He really wanted a bike, especially as a gift for his 12th birthday. However, Robert was clear that his family couldn’t afford it. His parents worked hard only to meet their daily life need. Fortunately, the family lived happily together regardless of the poor condition. Robert should be satisfied with it. But he just couldn’t help feeling sad about not being able to own a bike.
When Robert got home, the house was dark and it seemed nobody was there. He walked through the silent rooms, hoping to find a sign of his family.
