This can help players develop their thinking skills and come up with new solutions to problems in life”可知,本段围绕“下棋培养创造力”展开。F选项“Chess requires players to think creatively to come up with new strategies”直接点明“创造性思考”这一核心,为后文的研究结论和益处做铺垫。故选F。

第二节(满分25分)
【参考范文】
Taking a deep breath, Maya rushed out from behind her stall. Her heart raced as she moved through the busy market, holding the fifty-pound note tightly. “Mr. Thorne!” she called out, her voice rising above the noise. He stopped and turned, looking a bit surprised. Maya reached him, slightly out of breath, and held out the note. “Sir, you gave me too much money,” she said, her voice calm despite her nervousness. “The flowers cost only ten pounds.” Mr. Thorne looked at the money, then at Maya, his face changing as he understood what she was saying.
A slow smile spread across Mr. Thorne’s face. “Young lady,” he said kindly, “your honesty is rare and valuable.” He took the note but then handed her a fresh twenty-pound bill. “Take this as a thank you for being honest. We need more people like you in the world.” Maya’s eyes widened in surprise, and she felt a wave of gratitude. As Mr. Thorne walked away, she returned to her stall, feeling lighter and happier. Her grandmother’s lessons had guided her well, and the flowers seemed to shine even brighter under her care, reflecting her strong sense of honesty.

M: I’m too busy to listen to music. But I don’t mind knowing more about the singer. So, how did he become a singer
W: Well, in 2016, he was working in a grocery store and released his music on the music-sharing site SoundCloud. Soon, he got a contract with a record company because of that. His first album made it to No. 11 on the charts.
M: That’s not bad.

Recently, when the restaurant manager began replacing the wooden platform, workers uncovered a silver ring alongside an old gold coin and some $100 bills. A waitress shared a photo of the ring on social media, hoping to find the owner. The post was shared about 5,000 times. Three days later, the couple saw the post and contacted the restaurant to get back the lost ring. They sent photos as proof of dining there. The restaurant returned the ring to the couple by mail. Meanwhile, the manager learned that the gold coin was extremely valuable. It was from 1855 and worth as much as $2,000.2026届高三10月大联考考后强化卷(新课标卷)

I was born and raised on the Gold Coast by a single parent, my incredible mother, Christine. Mum always placed a lot of emphasis on higher education and I was educated from a young age to enter university.
Unfortunately for Mum, the thing that I had a special love for was cooking — not what she had chosen for me. Knowing how hard restaurant work is, she wasn’t pleased with my idea. To keep my options open, I decided to apply for university but also cook throughout my studies with a part-time job. However, it wasn’t long before I found I was stuck in studying something not appealing to me, and this part-time work became my thing. I made the tough decision to quit my university major after graduation, switching to a career in the kitchen. Although she wasn’t happy with my choice, Mum has since been an incredible supporter.
Soon, I fell back into old patterns working in kitchens but feeling unfulfilled. Then, social media changed everything. As an early user, I poured my creativity into the platform, discovering a talent for photography and storytelling. Soon, my followers grew to 200,000. Recognizing the opportunity, I quit my job to pursue a career in travel photography and social media full-time.
I took 50 trips a year at my peak while expanding into consulting, public speaking, and project management. I created social media content, photography works and campaign reports. As a pioneer in Australia’s influencer marketing, my services became highly sought-after.
I established a travel account, teaching others to build careers in the industry, and launched an online photography course for beginners. Next year, I’ll lead my first photography tour in Zimbabwe, my partner’s homeland, combining my passions with conservation and community support. My journey has been challenging yet deeply fulfilling. Making money is no longer the main driver — instead, I seek meaningful experiences and opportunities to inspire others. What began as a small idea has grown into a life of adventure, creativity and purpose.

Due to the biodiversity loss worldwide, protected areas are set aside to provide wildlife with a safe space. Conservationists often focus on species counts when measuring success. But are these protected areas doing enough to preserve the entire structure of ecosystems This question is at the heart of a new study from Swansea University.
The relationships between organisms play a key role in ecological balance. A hawk (鹰) hunting smaller birds or a songbird feeding on insects reflects interactions that keep ecosystems working. To figure out if protected areas help keep this ecological balance, the Swansea team examined the structure of food webs. They used data from platforms like eBird, where volunteers record bird sightings. This allowed the experts to track 509 bird species across 45 ecological networks from Spain to Finland.
Using this large database, the team combined observational bird records with known predator-prey (捕食者-猎物) links. For example, if a hawk feeds on smaller birds, that relationship was mapped. The team compared food webs inside protected areas to those in surrounding non-protected areas. They also looked at habitat diversity, the percentage of forest and agricultural land, and levels of human pressure.
The networks inside protected areas tended to have more species overall. Intermediate-level species were more common. Also, predators inside protected areas tended to be larger in body size, both at the top and middle levels of the food web.
However, the length of food chains and the connectivity of species within the web did not show consistent improvement. Generally, areas that were more remote or had higher habitat diversity had healthier food webs. Human pressure and the amount of nearby farmland had a strong influence, too. Interestingly, areas under the Birds Directive showed stronger positive trends. This suggests clearer conservation planning makes a difference.
The research shows relationships between species are equally vital. Protecting one bird species is good. Ensuring that it still plays its ecological role — as the predator, prey or pollinator (传粉者) — is better. Conservation needs to think about networks, not just the number of species saved.
28. Why did the Swansea team examine the structure of food webs
A. To understand the effectiveness of conservation efforts.
B. To show the consequence of human pressure on wildlife.
C. To prove the position of predators in ecosystems.
D. To test the species counts in protected areas.
29. How was the finding of protected areas according to paragraph 4
A. Worrying. B. Unsatisfactory. C. Encouraging. D. Regretful.
30. What mainly caused the food web differences
A. The local culture. B. The environmental factor.
C. Financial support. D. People’s safety awareness.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Future of Global Biodiversity
B. The Direction of Protected Areas in Conservation
C. The Purpose of Species Counts in Ecological Balance
D. The Importance of Species Relationships in Ecosystems
D
The idea that night owls who don’t go to bed until the early hours struggle to get anything done during the day may have to be revised. It turns out that staying up late could be good for our brainpower as research suggests that people who are identified as night owls could be sharper than those who go to bed early.
Researchers led by academics at Imperial College London studied data from the UK Biobank study on more than 26,000 people who had completed intelligence, reasoning, reaction time and memory tests. They then examined how participants’ sleep duration, quality, and chronotype (睡眠类型) affected brain performance. They found that those who stay up late and those classed as “intermediate” had “superior cognitive function”, while morning larks had the lowest scores. Going to bed late is strongly associated with creative types. Artists, authors and musicians known to be night owls include James Joyce and Lady Gaga.
But while politicians like Barack Obama famously seemed to thrive on little sleep, the study found that sleep duration is important for brain function, with those getting between seven and nine hours of shut-eye each night performing best in cognitive tests. Prof Daqing Ma, the co-leader of the study, added, “We found that sleep duration has a direct effect on brain function, and we believe that actively managing sleep patterns is really important for boosting and safeguarding the way our brains work. We’d ideally like to see policy interventions (干预) to help sleep patterns improve in the general population.”
Some experts, however, urged caution in interpreting the findings. Jessica Chelekis, a sleep expert at Brunel University of London, said there were “important limitations” to the study as the research did not account for education attainment, or include the time of day the cognitive tests were conducted in the results. The main value of the study was challenging stereotypes about sleep, she added.
32. Why are James Joyce and Lady Gaga mentioned in paragraph 2
A. To provide examples of intermediate people.
B. To suggest most successful artists are night owls.
C. To prove artists have superior cognitive function.
D. To show the link between late hours and creativity.
33. Which statement will Prof Daqing Ma probably agree with
A. All sleep lengths equally improve brain function.
B. Parents shouldn’t intervene in children’s sleep pattern.
C. Schools should start later to fit teens’ body clocks.
D. Sleep duration is more important than sleep quality.
34. What does the underlined word “stereotypes” mean in the last paragraph
A. Scientific discoveries. B. Personal preferences.
C. Fixed beliefs. D. Recent trends.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the new study
A. Objective. B. Skeptical.
C. Appreciative. D. Critical.

Copper cash (铜钱) is the general term of Chinese ancient currency made of copper which turned up in the Qin Dynasty (221 BC — 207 BC), a dynasty leaving 56 (vary) treasures to Chinese people, such as the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army.
The copper coin originated from “huan cash”, a kind of ancient copper coin with a ring shape used in the Warring States Period 57 lasted from 475 BC to 221 BC. 58 (general) speaking, most of the copper coins 59 (be) round and there is a square hole in the center of the coin — hence there is another Chinese name, “fangkong cash”. Maya’s tiny flower stall at the edge of Briarwood Market was more than just a business; it was her lifeline. Every morning before dawn, she arranged bunches of vibrant tulips, delicate lilies, and cheerful daisies with care. Her customers knew her not just for the freshness of her blooms, but for her warm smile and unwavering (坚定的) fairness. “Honesty,” her grandmother used to say while teaching her to tie bouquets, “is the rarest and most beautiful flower you can grow.”
One autumn Tuesday, the market buzzed with unusual energy. A grand opening for a luxury department store, “Thorne & amp; Co.”, was happening down the street. Among the well-dressed shoppers was Mr. Alistair Thorne himself, the store’s imposing owner. He paused at Maya’s stall, drawn by the explosion of color.
“Those sunflowers,” he stated, pointing to a particularly splendid bunch. “How much ”
“Five pounds for the bunch, sir,” Maya replied.
“Excellent. I’ll take two.”
Mr. Thorne pulled a leather wallet from his tailored coat. He handed Maya a fifty-pound note. “Keep the change for your trouble,” he said quickly before turning to leave, already distracted by his ringing phone.
Maya’s breath stopped. Fifty pounds The two bunches cost only ten. Forty pounds in change was more than she often made in a morning. Her heart beat rapidly. Forty pounds meant new boots before winter, a proper meal every day for a week, and maybe even replacing her worn market umbrella. The note felt heavy in her hand.
She looked at Mr. Thorne’s retreating back, then down at the money. Her grandmother’s voice echoed softly: “Honesty isn’t just when it’s easy, child. It’s when the ground feels shaky beneath your feet.” The temptation (诱惑) was a physical ache, a whisper promising comfort. But the thought of keeping what wasn’t hers felt like wilting (使枯萎) the very flowers she sold.
