Eugene Newman Parker, a leading figure in heliospheric (日球层的) physics for the past half century, passed away peacefully at his home in Chicago on March 15. He was 94.
Considered as a visionary in the field of heliophysics, Parker revolutionized our understanding of the sun and its effects on Earth and other bodies within the solar system. NASA even stated that the field of heliophysics exists in large part because of Dr Eugene Parker. In 2018, Parker became the first living scientist to witness the launch of a spacecraft which was named in his honour.
Parker is best known for his groundbreaking theory on the existence of a phenomenon called "solar wind", a continuous stream of charged particles (粒子) that flow off the sun. It can become violent, causing space weather that impacts the Earth. When Parker s research was published in 1958, his theory was initially met with skepticism (怀疑) by the scientific community. The general view then was that the space between planets was completely empty of any matter. But there were no errors in his study or his calculations, and the theory was later proven to be correct in 1962, when a NASA spacecraft mission to Venus revealed the constant presence of a supersonic wind—exactly as Parker had predicted.
That experience likely led to the advice Parker often gave young researchers: "If you do something new or innovative, expect trouble. But think critically about it because if you re wrong, you want to be the first one to improve." Parker never co-authored a paper with his students, thus urging them to be independent.
Parker was wise, humble, and straightforward. His son Eric said, "My sister Joyce and I didn t get a real feel for what a big dog our dad was in the field." They got an even better sense when a month after Parker s death, they travelled to Lund, Sweden, to accept on his behalf the Crafood Prize in Astronomy.
24.What can we learn from the second paragraph
A. The sun has less effect on Earth than expected.
B. A spaceship was launched in memory of Parker.
C. Parker deserved credit for his great contributions.
D. NASA offered new insights into the solar system.
25.Why did people doubt Parker s best known theory at first
A. Some mistakes were found in his calculations.
B. It went against the popular opinion at that time.
C. The presence of a supersonic wind was proven.
D. Matter was believed to exist between planets.
26.What did Parker suggest young researchers do
A. Seek close cooperation. B. Avoid high expectations.
C. Learn by trial and error. D. Compete against others.
27.What does the author think of Parker
A. Responsible and dependent. B. Straight and generous.
C. Intelligent yet conventional. D. Distinguished yet modest.

For years, we ve been teaching a class on music and the mind. At the start of each semester, we asked the students to complete a survey on their favorite songs and artists. Students favorite songs and artists get longer and more varied each year and their playlists barely overlap (重叠).
Indeed, listening to music is a deeply private and personal experience nowadays and even more so with the introduction of the iPod and smartphones. When teenagers listen to music via streaming, artificial intelligence and social media platforms team up to suggest personalized playlists for them.
Some young people feel that AI generated playlists make them exposed to something dull. Their playlists are populated with songs and artists they ve never heard of before, yet they all sound similar. In the past, they might not have noticed such a situation. Their musical consumption was dominated by the "Top-40" artists. However, AI generated playlists have changed this, since a wider range of music is available. Furthermore, if they think their AI influenced playlists are unappealing, they still have the ability to search for new music just because AI doesn t prevent them researching and discovering music on their own. Anything that exists, they can find. The store is always open.
As young people transition (过渡) from childhood to adulthood with various styles of music, two seemingly opposing processes become vital—forming a unique identity while becoming part of a community. Music listening and preferences play an important role in it and AI generated playlists may have the potential to challenge this transition.
Fears of new technologies are common. For example, the decline of scheduled network TV erased lots of common ground for discussion. Will 50 million Americans ever again watch the series ending of a TV show, as they did for Friends in 2004 And will AI make it easier to differentiate the self, but harder to bond with others
28.What makes teenagers' music listening experiences more private
A. The popularization of music education.
B. The lack of interaction among teenagers.
C. The easy access to musical instruments.
D. The widespread use of electronic devices.
29.What can teenagers do with AI generated playlists
A. Explore a wider range online.
B. Fill their playlists with similar songs.
C. Subscribe to the "Top-40" artists.
D. Stop AI tracking their online activities.
30.What challenge may AI generated playlists present
A. They result in the decline of network TV.
B. They prevent teens choosing popular songs.
C. They make identifying oneself impossible.
D. They provide less for teens to communicate.
31.Why does the author mentionFriends in the last paragraph
A. To show the potential social influence of AI.
B. To tell us the significance of new technology.
C. To explain people s willingness to accept AI.
D. To emphasize its popularity among Americans.
D
A ship that s been frozen into the Arctic ice for the last year has finally returned home. After nearly 13 months, the researchers have gathered more detailed information on the Arctic than ever before. Much of the news is troubling.
The German ship RV Polarstern is normally designed to break a passage through ice. But last September, the ship set sail from Norway with the goal of getting frozen into the Arctic ice cap for a year. The mission was part of a $155 million project known as MOSAiC, whose goal is to learn more about the ice that forms near the North Pole and how it s affected by climate change.
By last October, the ship had been frozen into the Arctic ice north of Siberia. Over the next year, more than 300 scientists from 20 different countries spent time on the boat, doing long-term research on the ice, over the ice, and under the ice. The boat held about 100 scientists and other workers at a time. The plan was for members of the team to be exchanged regularly.
The project leaders knew there would be many challenges related to the extreme cold, the ice, and even polar bears. But the team hadn t planned on a severe epidemic that broke out in the region, which, for a time, made it impossible to swap out team members. That was one time the isolation helped, though, since the people on the Polarstern didn t have to worry about being infected with the virus.
At the end of July, the team collected all of their gear (器械) from the ice, just before the ice was frozen. In September, the boat left the ice cap, finally returning to Germany on Monday. However, the news that the researchers brought back wasn t good.
32.What is the aim to build RV Polarstern
A. To break up ice. B. To transport passengers.
C. To study MOSAiC. D. To do research in Arctic.
33.What can we learn from the figures in Paragraph 3
A. More scientists actively got involved.
B. Scientists got on well with each other.
C. The research turned out to be complex.
D. International cooperation was adopted.
34.What does the underlined word "isolation" in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Challenge. B. Separation. C. Relaxation. D. Determination.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Polarstern Draws Attention Once Again
B. Polarstern Returns after a Year in the Arctic
C. Polarstern Ends One-year Research Completely
D. Polarstern Gathers More Detailed Information

During a vacation one year, my mom and I left our home. We went on a two-week trip to the countryside where my mother had grown up. I was excited because I couldn t wait to see my grandparents. The last time I had visited them was when I was only three years old. I also wished to go sightseeing, ride elephants, and do many more things there. They must be very wonderful.
With great wishes, we arrived at my grandparents house in the countryside. During the first several days, I stayed in their house for fun. But soon, I got bored. I wondered what adventures were in store for me. One morning I said to my mom, "I really want to go outside to play." My mom replied, "Stephanie, today we re going to a school. The children there are studying in poor conditions. I decided to use some of my own money to buy some school supplies for them." Hearing that, I was a bit unhappy. "We can go out and play another day. Today we need to spend a little time helping these poor children," Mom added. I had no choice but to agree.
A few minutes later, my mom drove me to the school. On the way, she said, "We d first visit the school to know what kind of things these children want most. Then we ll try to buy them." I thought to myself: what a vacation I am having! I come here to go sightseeing, not do charity work.
When we reached the school, I just couldn t believe my eyes. There was only one small building, which looked as if it were a hundred years old. There was no playground, no parking lot. It was so small; the school I went to back home was a million times bigger. How unlucky the children here were! We met a teacher in the school, and my mom told him the purpose of our visit. The teacher was very glad and thanked us.

第一节:
AI and Scientific Thinking
With the rapid development of technology, artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in our study and daily life. It helps us search for information, solve problems and save time. Many of us have already felt its convenience and power in different ways.
①However, while enjoying the advantages of AI, we must also develop scientific thinking. We should not believe everything it tells us blindly (盲目地).Instead, we need to raise questions, check facts and make our own judgments. ②Only in this way can we avoid being controlled by machines and make AI serve as our assistant, not our master.
In conclusion, AI is a valuable tool, but scientific thinking is even more important. Let's use AI wisely, improve our ability to think independently, and grow into rational (理智的)and creative learners.
第二节:
Then the teacher guided us into a classroom. The classroom was so small that about thirty children sitting in it made it extremely crowded. I found most of the students wearing worn-out clothes and having no school supplies except some old books and pencils. Immediately, I felt sympathy for them. After the teacher introduced us to them, all the children were wild with joy and told us the things they had wanted for a long time. My mom made a list of these things.
Holding the shopping list, my mom and I headed for a store. There I helped my mom pick up the things on the list. I decided to buy something for the children with my own pocket money, for which my mom praised me a lot. I also added some candies to our supplies. These children were so grateful when receiving the gifts. Some of them started reading the picture books and sharing the candies right away. Seeing their smiling faces, I learned that doing something meaningful for others could also be a wonderful thing.
