第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
I began learning languages at the age of five, when my parents sent me to an after-school French class at my primary school. My parents, who speak English, stressed using different languages at home — even Grandpa could speak a foreign language! I don’t remember much from those early classes, aside from learning different colours and days of the week over and over, but I do know that it was during these moments that I first discovered the joy of journeying away from my surroundings with words. Because in French class it was easy to imagine we were somewhere else, away-far away-from the present, which was a really attractive idea to a young child with a wild imagination.
I stuck with French as I grew up; it was one of those strong relationships that provides comfort. It wasn’t until I began learning Spanish (西班牙语) at age 11 that I experienced a more transformative (变化的) relationship with languages.
Looking back, it strikes me that Spanish, for me, was always about feelings. At the beginning the focus was on learning words and grammar to describe how I was feeling, but I somehow ended up with a language that helped me express myself better than my native language.
After years of studying Spanish at school, and living in Spain, my Spanish came to match, and perhaps even exceed (超过), my English. Despite having returned to the UK ten years ago, now I still often find myself stuck in English conversations, unable to express a thought or feeling with quite the same depth as I would be able to in Spanish.
Spanish affords me another kind of liveliness. I’m not just “in love”. To me, “te echo de menos” houses more feeling than “I miss you,” which takes me back to a time in my life that I miss a lot.
21.What is the author’s native language
A.French. B.English. C.Spanish. D.Chinese.
22.Why did the author feel enjoyable in French class
A.He could picture an amazing world. B.He had no homework to do.
C.He could turn to his parents for help. D.He found it similar to English.
23.How is Spanish different from other languages for the author
A.It uses a host of simpler words. B.It leads to more misunderstanding.
C.It has more difficult grammar rules. D.It allows him to better express feelings.
24.What does the author want to say in the last paragraph
A.He succeeded at the cost of hard work. B.Learning a language takes too much time.
C.Spanish brings the happy past into his mind. D.He often misses the vacation spent in the UK.

Explore the Emerald Valley National Park!
Welcome to Emerald Valley National Park, a beautiful park in the Pacific Northwest! Set up in 1998, it covers over 1,500 square kilometers of wonderful scenery. ◆Entrance Fee: The park entrance is free for visitors under 12. For adults, it’s $10 per person, which includes access to all public areas.
◆Best Time to Visit: While beautiful all year round, the park is at its best from July to October when the weather is mild and the wildflowers are in full bloom.

Researchers at MIT have come up with the concept (概念) of “outdoor days”— the number of days per year in a given place when the temperature is not too hot or cold to enjoy normal outdoor activities. They used this method to measure how global warming affects different areas of the United States. They discovered that some states, particularly Florida and other parts of the Southeast, would see a big drop in outdoor days, while some states in the Northwest would see a small increase.
This finding was published in Geophysical Research Letters by researchers Yeon-Woo Choi and Elfatih Eltahir. By collecting and examining temperature data (数据) since 1960, the researchers found that in recent years, the number of outdoor days in some places has changed compared to the past. “It seems like the Southeast is suffering major losses in the number of outdoor days,” says Choi. “This will affect people’s quality of life, and also the attractiveness of tourism and for people who want to settle here when they get old.”
The study also found that the seasonal pattern (模式) of outdoor days might change a lot. Although most areas now enjoy the most outdoor days in summer, spring and fall will become the preferred seasons for outdoor activities as summers get hotter. This change can be seen in Florida, where spring and fall are increasingly becoming the more enjoyable seasons for outdoor activities, while summer is no longer the best time of the year.
Eltahir explains, “We noticed that some people think climate change will happen later and will affect someone else. And this belief is part of the reason why people are not taking enough action now.” However, the idea of outdoor days connects climate change to personal daily activities. He adds, “We hope this idea would lead to the development of sound, science-based plans to fight climate change.”
28.What is the concept of “outdoor days” about
A.Weather report. B.Climate issue.
C.temperature data. D.Weather service.
29.What will fewer outdoor days lead to according to Choi
A.Growth in tourism industry. B.Attractiveness for the old.
C.Lower quality of life. D.Drop in indoor activities.
30.What can we learn from Eltahir’s words
A.Climate change will take place later. B.“Outdoor days” leads to climate change.
C.“Outdoor days” prevents people taking action. D.Effective plans are needed to fight climate change.
31.Which is the most suitable title for the text
A.Outdoor Days: A New Concept to Enjoy Life B.Outdoor Days: A Measure on Climate Change
C.Outdoor Days: A Way to Explain Seasonal Pattern D.Outdoor Days: A Method to Predict Tourism Direction

Olympic athletes pour everything into training for the Games. They regularly go beyond their physical and mental limits to the edge for a chance at a gold medal. Yet they are often hit by an emotional letdown afterward.
Emotions are increased by the very nature of the event. The Olympics are a huge global occasion — a mix of worldwide public attention, financial investment (资金投入), and media coverage. New international stars are born, and some competitors’ good names are destroyed among various criticisms. Athletes face high pressure to represent their countries and win medals before a global crowd. “But after the Games, all the attention and excitement for the Olympians quickly disappears,” says Cogan, a leading sports psychologist. “It’s a bit like having a detailed map to reach a destination. Once you arrive, you might feel confused and wonder, ‘Now what ’”
A 2025 study shed light on the identity (身份) problems athletes face because of over focus on performance, leaving their non-athletic selves underdeveloped. In a 2018 paper, Howells wrote that athletes with too narrow a focus are easier to feeling “down.” “It’s common for top competitors to have this very strong athletic identity”, Howells explains. “They’ve sacrificed (牺牲) almost every other part of who they are to be an Olympian. They may not realize that their single-minded run after Olympic dreams could have bad results later in life.”
Efforts to change this mindset have encouraged some athletes to open up more about their mental health struggles. Experts recommend that Olympians start protections about mental health support long before the Games begin. They should also discuss strategies for mental examination before, during, and after the competition.
Athletes and experts note that the sports industry has, over the past decade, been promoting a better work-life balance outside of competition. Briana, a soccer goalkeeper, says her team and coaches actively encourage spending quality time with family and loved ones, as well as following hobbies that bring joy and a sense of achievement.
32.What is the focus of paragraph 2
A.The cause of Olympians’ sadness. B.The pressure of Olympians.
C.The nature of the Olympics. D.The problems of the Olympics.
33.What’s the attitude of Howells towards overly high athletic identity
A.Unclear. B.Favorable. C.Negative. D.Doubtful.
34.What might be a basic solution to the athletes’ identity problem
A.Developing higher athletic identity. B.Discussing their problems publicly.
C.Advancing sporting industry. D.Forming an identity beyond sports.
35.What is a suitable title for the text
A.Athletes Adapting to Olympics’ Quick pace. B.From Bad to Worse: Athletes’ Well-being.
C.Olympic Athletes Rising from Low spirits. D.From Hero to Zero: the Post-Olympic Blues.

Quickly the mother checked the back of the little metal box and then looked back into the begging blue eyes of her little girl’s upturned face. “A dollar and ninety five cents. That’s almost $2. If you really want it, I’ll think of some extra housework for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy it for yourself. Besides, you might get another dollar bill from Grandma on your birthday a week away.”
After dinner back home, she did more housework and even she asked the neighbor for housework for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at least she had enough money to buy the cheap necklace from the dime store (廉价商店).
Jenny loved her pearl necklace. She wore it everywhere. The only time she took it off was when swimming.
Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night when he finished the story, he asked Jenny, “Do you love me ”
“Oh, daddy. You know that I love you.”
“Then give me your necklace.”
“Oh, daddy, not my pearl necklace. But you can have my Barbie doll — the one you gave me. She’s my favorite.”
“That’s okay, Honey. Daddy loves you. Good night.” And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.
Daddy repeated the same request about a week after the story time. However, Jenny refused and wouldn’t give up her necklace to her daddy.

22.细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Because in French class it was easy to imagine we were somewhere else, away-far away-from the present, which was a really attractive idea to a young child with a wild imagination.(因为在法语课上很容易想象我们在别的地方,离现在很远很远,这对一个想象力丰富的孩子来说是一个很有吸引力的想法)”可知,作者在法语课上感到快乐是因为可以想象一个美好的世界。故选A。
23.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Looking back, it strikes me that Spanish, for me, was always about feelings.
