A key part of starting to exercise is choosing when to work out. Morning, afternoon, or evening: Which time is best
Morning workouts trigger the release of endorphins (内啡肽), uplifting one’s mood following exhaustion, boosting energy levels, alertness, and focus.
But alas, early exercisers may not be able to achieve peak performance. Stiffer muscles, fewer stored energy reserves from overnight fasting, and a slightly cooler body temperature in the morning add up to cut off exercise output. Therefore, more exercisers might prefer working out in the afternoon.
“The best window for explosive athleticism seems to be between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.” Shawn Arent, chair of the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina told CNN. For example, in one study, young men instructed to cycle to exhaustion at a set difficulty were able to ride 20% longer in the afternoon compared to the morning. Exercise itself may also be more efficient in the afternoon. A small, 12-week study focusing on pre-diabetic and diabetic men found that afternoon training produced slightly more beneficial metabolic effects and resulted in a little more fat loss compared to morning training.
Finally, some folks may decide to work out later in the evening. Studies centered around this time of day tend to focus on whether or not nightly exercise negatively impacts sleep quality. Gathered research suggests it does not and, instead, actually improves sleep. This finding comes with a big asterisk, however. Intense exercise performed within an hour of one’s bedtime absolutely will make it more difficult to fall asleep. For this reason, most exercise experts recommend at least 90 minutes of downtime between the conclusion of an exercise session and attempting to fall asleep.
Whether morning, afternoon, or evening, it is ideal if exercise timing remains somewhat consistent, research has found. “For example, a competitive marathon runner will exhibit the best performance when his/ her exercise training sessions occur at the same time-of-day as the marathon.
24.What’s the advantage of working out in the morning
A.Peak performance.
B.Best exercise output.
C.Concentrated attention.
D.Ideal metabolic effects.
25.If your bedtime is 10 p.m., when should you end your exercise
A.At 8:00 p.m. B.At 9:00 p.m.
C.At 9:30 p.m. D.Any time after work.
26.What does the example of the marathon runner illustrate
A.Consistency in workout timing can enhance performance.
B.Marathon runners should only train in the afternoon.
C.The time of a race is more important than training.
D.Morning is the best time for all endurance sports.
27.What is the author’s primary purpose in writing this text
A.To criticize the habit of morning exercise.
B.To persuade readers to exercise in the afternoon.
C.To promote a new fitness program based on circadian rhythms.
D.To explain the pros and cons of exercising at different times of day.

Languages are dying at an alarming rate. While teaching them in school can be a great way to ensure its continued survival via future generations, this isn’t always enough to maintain the vitality of a language. Fortunately, there are people around the world finding creative ways to revive endangered languages.
Music has documented our history and legends. It’s no surprise, then, that many people are using music to promote the use of endangered language. One example is Garifuna, a Central American language spoken by fewer than 1,000,000 people. The interplay of language and music is accomplished not only by performing traditional songs and dances, but also by creating new music to draw in those not previously interested in the language. Whether it’s someone’s specific goal to promote an endangered language or musicians wanting to embrace their roots by singing songs, music extends the long cultural history of these languages.
Films in endangered languages are kind of having a moment, or at least they’ve garnered a lot of media attention over the past few years. For instance, Disney released a Hawaiian version of Moana for free to Hawaiian schools, inspiring young people to engage with language. Even if films alone can’t save a language, they can revitalize a language by removing it from the classroom context and compelling viewers to consider it more deeply.
The internet has been a double-edged sword for endangered languages. On one hand, speakers of endangered languages are no longer limited by geography. On the other hand, the internet is overflowing with English. Yet, young people are finding ways to adapt within digital spaces. For example, Icelandic is facing decline due to the influence of English from tourism and daily life. Instead of resisting change, young Icelanders are inventing their own terms to communicate in Icelandic online. By embracing rather than rejecting the change, there’s greater chance for these endangered languages to stay culturally strong.
Reviving an endangered language isn’t overnight. No single solution will work, but when combined, these diverse strategies can introduce countless new speakers to the rich variety of languages.
28.How is Garifuna brought to life
A.By teaching it in schools. B.By making its old and new music.
C.By documenting its history in books. D.By persuading musicians to sing in it.
29.How does Internet challenge endangered languages
A.It makes the use of endangered languages impossible.
B.It provides unlimited space for all languages.
C.It ruins the languages by inventing new terms.
D.It is largely dominated by English.
30.What can be drawn from paragraph 4
A.English is the most influential language on the internet.
B.The internet can be fully used to protect endangered languages.
C.Icelandic will be removed from the endangered languages list soon.
D.Resisting the use of English is a good way to protect an endangered language.
31.What can we infer about the endangered languages
A.Their preservation requires consistent joint efforts.
B.Their vitality is maintained due to the artists’ efforts.
C.Their preservation can be achieved by teaching in schools.
D.They are unable to react to changes in modern society.
D
The cultures of the East and the West are really different from each other a lot. This is because the culture systems are two separate ones on the whole.
The origin (起源) of the Eastern culture is mainly from two countries: China and India. Both of the two cultures are developed by rivers-the Yellow River in China and the Hindu River in India. They helped the two cultures develop for centuries and form their own styles.
When the two mother rivers gave birth to the Eastern culture, another famous culture was up on the Mesopotamian Plain—the Mesopotamian Civilization. This civilization later on developed into the cultures of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. And these two are well known as the base of the European culture. Like the Chinese culture, the European culture also crossed waters. When the British settled down in America, their culture went with the mover the Atlantic Ocean. So the American culture doesn’t have much difference from the European culture.
At the same time, some other differences add to the cultural differences. Take the language system for example. In the East, most languages belong to the pictographic (象形文字的) language while the Western languages are mostly based on the Latin system. Other causes like human race differences count as well. But what’s more, due to the far distance and the steep areas between the East and the west, the two cultures seldom communicated until recent centuries. So they grew up totally in their own ways with almost no interference (干预) from the other.
The differences are everywhere. They are obvious and make people’s ways of thinking and their views of the world different. But different cultures make the world of 21st century more colorful. The cultural difference should not be the obstacle (障碍) to the civilization of human being. It ought to be the driving force of our going farther.
32.What does the underlined word “civilization” mean in paragraph 3
A.A particular ability or type of ability.
B.A society with its culture and its way of life.
C.The process of teaching, training and learning.
D.The art of planning, designing, and constructing buildings.
33.Why did the two cultures seldom communicate until recent centuries
A.People ate different kinds of food.
B.There were two language systems.
C.The East and the West are too far away.
D.People’s habits and traditions are not similar.
34.What is the.last paragraph mainly about
A.Benefits of cultural differences.
B.Disadvantages of cultural differences.
C.Driving force of people’s going farther.
D.Waves to make the world more colorful.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A.What causes different life between East and West
B.What causes diet differences between East and West
C.What causes different views between East and West
D.What causes cultural differences between East and West

Sally had been playing football all summer. She really enjoyed running after the black and white ball across the grassy field with the other players in her bright orange uniform.
Before each game, they had a practice session. The coach showed her and her team how to pass the ball to each other and take shots at the goal. She was pretty good at passing the ball, but every time she got a chance to kick the ball to the goal, it would be stopped by a player from the other team or be caught by the goalkeeper. Now the football season was almost over and she still had not scored one single goal. She really felt discouraged and wondered if she should quit football and join a different club.
“After all, I am a girl. I was not born for such a rough game,” Sally told herself. “I will try another club.” She even daydreamed that she was a member of the hip hop club and she was dancing on stage in a big auditorium with thousands of people cheering for her. She also thought about joining a different sport, like jogging or cycling. Anyway, football would be her last choice.
“Don’t give up. No one is born for the game. Use your advantage,” the coach said after Sally told him her doubt during a break between the sessions. “Most important of all, believe yourself. You can do it.”
Sally was not totally convinced but she did want to have a try. When the break was over, the coach blew his whistle to start the game again. The two teams walked back onto the field, both determined to win. Sally bent down to tie up her shoes and repeated what the coach had said in her mind. “Use your advantage. Believe yourself. You can do it.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

Hello, everyone! Thank you for visiting my video channel.
First, I’d like to share a research report. The research shows that helping others can have a positive impact on our mental health. It reduces stress, makes us feel better and even benefits our physical health. So, I think it’s important to support each other in our community. This simple act can help us keep good mental health in our daily lives.
If you do nothing else today, keep an eye out for an opportunity to help your neighbors with an act of kindness. It’s the small things in life that can make a big difference.
Not sure what to do Here are a few ideas: Call a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while or write a letter to your grandparents. Offer to pick up some groceries for an elderly neighbor or take a moment to express your love and appreciation to your family members. Help your parents with housework or make someone laugh.
OK, that’s all for now. Let’s take a break and see you in 10 minutes.

根据第二段“Morning workouts trigger the release of endorphins (内啡肽), uplifting one’s mood following exhaustion, boosting energy levels, alertness, and focus. (早晨锻炼会触发内啡肽的释放,在疲惫后改善情绪,提升能量水平、警觉性和专注力)”可知,早晨锻炼的好处包括集中的注意力。故选C。
25.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“For this reason, most exercise experts recommend at least 90 minutes of downtime between the conclusion of an exercise session and attempting to fall asleep (出于这个原因,大多数锻炼专家建议,锻炼结束与试图入睡之间至少留出90分钟的休息时间)”可知,如果入睡时间是晚上10点,锻炼需在晚上8点半前结束,A选项“在8点钟”符合题意。故选A。
根据最后一段“Whether morning, afternoon, or evening, it is ideal if exercise timing remains somewhat consistent (无论早晨、下午还是晚上,锻炼时间保持一定的规律性都是理想的)”以及“a competitive marathon runner will exhibit the best performance when his/ her exercise training sessions occur at the same time-of-day as the marathon (当马拉松运动员的训练时间与比赛时间一致时,他们会表现出最佳状态)”可知,该例子说明锻炼时间的规律性能提升表现。故选A。

根据第二段“One example is Garifuna, a Central American language spoken by fewer than 1,000,000 people. The interplay of language and music is accomplished not only by performing traditional songs and dances, but also by creating new music to draw in those not previously interested in the language. (加勒比语的例子就是如此,这种中美洲语言的使用者不足一百万人。语言和音乐的融合不仅通过表演传统歌舞实现,还会创作新音乐来吸引此前对该语言不感兴趣的人群)”可知,复兴加勒比语的方式是创作新旧两种音乐。故选B。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段“The internet has been a double-edged sword for endangered languages. On one hand, speakers of endangered languages are no longer limited by geography. On the other hand, the internet is overflowing with English. (互联网对于濒危语言而言是一把双刃剑。一方面,濒危语言使用者不再受地理限制;另一方面,互联网上充斥着英语)”可知,互联网对濒危语言的挑战在于其被英语大量占据。故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段“The internet has been a double-edged sword for endangered languages. By embracing rather than rejecting the change, there's greater chance for these endangered languages to stay culturally strong.
根据最后一段“Reviving an endangered language isn’t overnight. No single solution will work, but when combined, these diverse strategies can introduce countless new speakers to the rich variety of languages. (濒危语言的复兴并非一蹴而就。单一方案无法奏效,但多种策略结合使用,就能吸引无数新的使用者,感受语言的丰富多样性)”可知,濒危语言的保护需要长期且多方的共同努力。故选A。

根据指代关系和第三段“When the two mother rivers gave birth to the Eastern culture, another famous culture was up on the Mesopotamian Plain — the Mesopotamian Civilization. This civilization later on developed into the cultures of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.(在这两条母亲河孕育东方文化的同时,另一种著名的文化也在两河平原上兴起——两河文明。这种civilization后来发展成为古希腊和古罗马文化)”中“This”可知,“This civilization”即上文所述在两河平原上兴起的两河文明。结合常识可知,两河文明是两河流域孕育的人类文明,即一个有自己文化和生活方式的社会。故选B项。
33.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“But what’s more, due to the far distance and the steep areas between the East and the west, the two cultures seldom communicated until recent centuries.(但更重要的是,由于东西方之间的距离遥远和陡峭的地区,两种文化直到最近几个世纪才有很少的交流)”可知,因为东方和西方太远了,所以直到最近几个世纪才有很少的交流。故选C项。
根据最后一段“The differences are everywhere. They are obvious and make people’s ways of thinking and their views of the world different. But different cultures make the world of 21st century more colorful. The cultural difference should not be the obstacle to the civilization of human being. It ought to be the driving force of our going farther.(差异无处不在。它们是显而易见的,并使人们的思维方式和他们对世界的看法不同。但是不同的文化使21世纪的世界更加丰富多彩。文化差异不应成为人类文明的障碍。它应该成为我们走得更远的动力)”可知,最后一段主要讲文化差异的好处。故选A项。
根据第一段中“The cultures of the East and the West are really different from each other a lot. This is because the culture systems are two separate ones on the whole.(东方和西方的文化真的有很大的不同。这是因为文化系统在整体上是两个独立的系统)”以及倒数第二段中“At the same time, some other differences add to the cultural differences.(与此同时,一些其他的差异增加了文化差异)”可知,本文主要讲是什么导致了东方和西方的文化有不同,所以D项“What causes cultural differences between East and West(是什么导致了东西方的文化差异)”是本文最好的标题。故选D项。

38.由上文“Accept adjusting (调整) your plan (接受调整你的计划)”下文“even if they seem perfect at first. (即使它们一开始看起来很完美。)”可知,空格处应表达一种对计划可能变化的认识。E选项“Experienced travelers know that plans can change a lot (有经验的旅行者知道计划会改变很多)”中的plans can change a lot与下文的seem perfect at first形成对比,强调了计划可能变化的事实,符合语境。故选E。
39.由上文“Even if you have roadside emergency service, don’t forget to bring the necessary tools to get you back on the road if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. (即使你有路边紧急服务,如果你的车在荒无人烟的地方抛锚了,也不要忘记带上必要的工具让你重新上路。)”可知,上文主要讲的是要带上必要的修理工具,本空应强调带上工具的原因。F选项“Sometimes, rescuers won’t be able to reach you for hours (有时,救援人员几个小时都无法到达你身边)”强调了在没有救援的情况下带上修理工具的重要性,符合语境。故选F。
40.由下文“As much fun as you’ll have, you might have to pass on a few must-see destinations on your next road trip. (尽管你会玩得很开心,但在你下次的公路旅行中,你可能不得不放弃一些必看的景点。)”可知,本段主要讲的是要有所取舍,不要把所有的冒险都安排在一次旅行中,本空应强调把一些冒险留给下次。C选项“Leave some adventures for next time (把一些冒险留给下次)”直接点明了本段的主旨,符合语境。故选C。

Chinese Traditional Arts Week
Last week, our school launched a Chinese Traditional Arts Week, aiming to enrich students’ campus life and deepen their appreciation of art.
During the week, diverse activities sparked students’ active participation. Students showcased their talents in calligraphy and painting competitions, producing lots of excellent works. Besides, teachers hosted some workshops on seal-cutting and paper-cutting, which inspired numerous students to have a try. Undoubtedly, these activities provided a fantastic stage for self-expression.
From my perspective, the Art Activity Week not only relieved our academic pressure but also broadened our understanding of art. I’m looking forward to more events like this!

Sally stood up and took a deep breath. She tried to figure out what she was good at doing. Suddenly she knew what she could do and she headed to her position with confidence. Even if she didn’t get one goal all summer, she was sure that she could pass the ball better than most of the boys. That was something she was really proud of and it would her real strength.
As the game was drawing to an end, the scores were in a tie. Both teams were trying their best to get the ball close to the goals. No one paid too much attention to Sally who found a perfect position and waited there. At that very moment, the ball ran to her. She quickly took control of it and tried to get as close to the goal as possible. Focused on the ball, she kicked it as hard as she could. “Goal!” said the coach.
