Take Care of Our Eyesight
As we all know, eyes are the windows of the mind. Without eyes, we couldn’t see this colorful
and fantastic world. So eyes are of great significance in our daily life.
Here are some approaches to using our eyes correctly. To begin with, pay attention to eye health.
Don’t rub our eyes with dirty hands. Besides, a regular eye examination should be performed every
year. Last but not least, avoid playing computer games or using digital devices for too long, which is
harmful to our eyes.
In conclusion, we need to take care of our eyes carefully.
第二节 读后续写(满分 25分)
Paragraph 1:
“I know how you like baseball, so this book is for you.” she said as she stood looking down at
my guilty face. “Here is that book about sport that you are always checking out. It is yours.” Hearing
this, I lowered my head, wondering whether she was teasing me. As I was expecting a storm of
criticism, she continued, “Anyway it’s time we got a new one for the school. The book is yours and
you will not be punished as long as you remember that I am not rewarding you for your misdeed, I
am rewarding you because you told the truth.”
Paragraph 2:
What she did was really beyond my expectation! I wasn’t being punished for breaking the
window and I was getting my very own sport book which I loved so much that I could hardly put it
down when I picked it up. You can imagine the mixed feelings of guilt and joy I had at that moment.
The book is now gone, so is my wonderful teacher. All that remains of that day is my memory and
the lesson my teacher taught me — honesty is the best policy.

Everybody, gather round please, especially you, Jack. I noticed that Jack was heading for the
door, because he knows what I’m about to say. You see, Jack would prefer to silently get on with his
work in the corner of the room. But today is a special day for Jack. It is the last day of his 40-year
working life. It’s time for him to put his feet up and enjoy life with his lovely wife, Lisa. They’ve
been married for an amazing 35 years.
Now, let me tell you a few things about Jack. I first got to meet him when I started as the
managing director of this company 10 years ago. I quickly came to realize how important he is to us.
He works very hard in a careful way to get the job done. He makes sure any problems are solved
before moving on to the next step. He has never asked for praise or any extra rewards.
Now, I want you all to head down to the company canteen. There will be drinks and food to give
Jack a proper send-off.

Take the following rail routes and feast your eyes with impressive views.
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling, India
Built by British rulers, the railway was used to transport tea, rice and other produce up and
down the Himalayan foothills. Today, it’s a hit with Indian families on weekend breaks and rail fans
keen to watch traffic slowly stop as the train crosses the road, rushing past fruit stalls within arm’s
reach. On a clear day, passengers will be treated to views of Mount Kanchenjunga, its snowy peak
turning peach in the late-afternoon light.
Qinghai Xizang Railway
Xining to Lhasa, China
Connecting Xining in Qinghai province to Lhasa in Xizang, this 22-hour journey is the highest
rail route in the world. Lakes shine like molten metal and yaks (牦牛) eat grass up the slopes before
the light chills to a blue glow from the icy sides of the Kunlun Mountains closing in around the
carriages.
The Skeena
Jasper to Prince Rupert, Canada
With the ice-glazed tops of the Canadian Rockies sparkling all around it, the train curls out of
Alberta past the Rockies’ highest peak-the majestic Mount Robson-followed by the Cariboo
Mountains, at the foot of which lie green lakes as still as glass. From a panoramic view, passengers
can keep eyes on black and grizzly bears, white-tailed deer, elk and moose, as well as bald eagles
diving through the air.
Bernina Express
Chur, Switzerland to Tirano, Italy
Short but very sweet, a journey on the Bernina Express takes four hours to wind its way from
the city of Chur in the Swiss Alps down to the Italian city of Tirano. Running on a narrow track that
includes 55 tunnels and 196 bridges, the train swings around pine-filled valleys and vertical rock
faces.
21. Where should you go for the world’s highest railway
A. India. B. China. C. Canada. D. Italy.
22. Which route can give passengers a nice view of various animals
A. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. B. Qinghai Xizang Railway.
C. The Skeena. D. Bernina Express.
23. What do the four routes have in common

It only takes one wrong step near a lake in the winter for disaster to happen. Pepper, the dog and
his mom found that out the hard way.
The two of them were taking a morning walk in Chicago along Lake Michigan when Pepper, a
7-year-old dog, got free of its rope, slipped on some rocks, and fell onto the ice sheets of the lake. As
Pepper tried to climb back up to his human owner, the ice around him broke, and he began floating
(漂浮) away!
Since the water was so cold, Pepper should be saved as soon as possible. As Fire Deputy District
Chief Jason Lach said, hypothermia (a serious medical condition caused by very low temperature)
can start within several minutes. Thankfully, firefighters were already nearby practicing underwater
ice dives.
Just 10 minutes later, 40 rescue (救援) workers arrived, along with fire department vehicles and
a helicopter. By the time the officials in the helicopter noticed Pepper, he and his ice float were 500
feet out into the lake. Firefighter Chris Iverson dove into the water and swam out to Pepper. Chris
calmed the dog down and tied him to a safety sling (吊索). Meanwhile, firefighter Emerson Branch
swam out with a rapid deployment craft, which he and Chris used to bring Pepper safely to shore.
The rescue only took about 15 minutes. When the firefighters reached dry land with Pepper, they
dried him using a towel and played the pass-the-dog to get him back to his human owner.
Caretakers at Veterinary Emergency Group Hospital made sure Pepper was OK. But Jason
hopes his rescue will be a lesson for others. “The dog was good, warmed up to its owner, and went on
its happy way,” Jason said. “But stay off the ice. It’s never safe, …Step into a hole, and you’re out of
sight.”
24. What happened to Pepper one morning
A. He lost his owner. B. He was trapped in a lake.
C. He got missing suddenly. D. He was covered by ice sheets.
25. What seemed to be the first danger to Pepper
A. The cold water. B. Poor medical conditions.
C. Rescue equipment shortage. D. The changeable temperature.
26. What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A. The rescue lasted about an hour. B. Pepper got to the shore alone.
C. The rescue was highly effective. D. Pepper reacted calmly all the time.
27. What is Jason’s suggestion
A. No going near the ice. B. No walking dogs by a hole.
C. Taking good care of pets. D. Warming up well before exercise.

Two hours of screen time a day is enough to “dumb down” children or result in depression or
physical illness, a global study has found.
The global study analyzed data measuring screen time, physical activity, mental health
indicators and physical illness reported by 577, 000 children aged 11, 13 and 15 from 42 rich
countries. It found that screen time—not including school work — averaged 6.3 hours for boys and
5.4 hours for girls.
The Australian-led study shows girls experience unhealthiness after just two hours watching
screens including television, social media or online gaming. However, boys are more likely to be
physically active, they can safely spend twice as much time on screens each day before suffering
health problems.
Dr Khan said too much time spent watching TV, gaming or on social media could lead to
“reduced learning abilities”. “If you spend more time on screens you are likely not to do well in your
study performance.”
“We also found there were some benefits during the first hour of daily screen use, but bad
effects on mental health kick in after 75 minutes in girls and 105 minutes in boys,” Dr Khan said. The
solution to mental health the study found was an hour of physical activity, and no more than two
hours a day using screens, apart from schoolwork. That is to say, children need to balance screen time
with “green time” outdoors. Children who exercise or play outdoors regularly are healthier and
happier, the study shows.
Melbourne dad, Tom Hindhaugh, said he tried to reduce screen time for his son, Patrick, 13.
“Clearly we need those screens for homeschooling. Technology is the necessary way kids can
communicate and hang out with each other,” he said. “But we need to get children outside and
moving. Physical activity is the key for their health, whether it’s walking, riding a bike or kicking the
football.”
28. What does the study focus on about children
A. Their screen time. B. Their health habits.
C. Their gender difference. D. Their school performance.
29. What can be learned from the study
A. Boys perform no better in study than girls.
B. Boys are better at physical activity than girls.
C. Girls spend more time on school work than boys.
D. Girls are more likely to suffer ill-health than boys.
30. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5
A. The balance of school work. B. The proper time of daily screens.
C. The advantage of green time. D. The necessity of regular activities.
31. Why is Melbourne dad mentioned
A. To express parents’ concern. B. To show a successful example.
C. To support the writer’s opinion. D. To present an education method.

There is a new kind of robot called Rubion which can smartly tell ripe (成熟的) strawberries,
picking them without bruising them and putting them into its basket. It sounds impossible but it is
true. Its appearance is not only an answer to the labor shortage in the agricultural industry, but it also
allows growers to increase the quality of its produce, which in the end benefits the consumer.
It has been a fact that the labor shortage in the agricultural industry. But for Octinion
Technology the focus is clearly on adding quality. “Thanks to robotics, we have so many possibilities,
much more than a human could ever do. Harvest prediction, picking according to market needs,
simply picking when the berries are ripe instead of when workers are available — these are just a few
examples of what is possible now for a grower”, says Tom Coen, CEO of the Octinion Technology
Group. “The consumer will also notice the difference, as strawberries will be fresher and show less
bruising.”
Introducing robots into an industry where almost everything gets done by hand is more of a
revolution (变革) than evolution. It needs close group action with all partners. Tom Coen says, “Not
only have we been working together with growers and test centers across the world for the past few
years, but breeders (培育者) have been active in being part of the technological developments.”
In 2022, a team of Belgian engineers started the development of the robot. In the meanwhile
Octinion wasn’t the only company presenting an idea. Product Manager Laura Guillaume says it’s
not a surprise that the company from Leuven is the first to actually present a commercial product.
“By developing the robot from the beginning, we are able to make it practical in greenhouses or
tunnels.” Octinion plans to develop harvesting robots for other crops in the future.

According to a recent study, most people hold the strong belief that much imagination has gone
away. 36 Everyone has imagination, but most of us forget how to make use of it once
we become older and older. Creativity isn’t always concerned with great works of art or ideas. People
at work and in their free time typically think of creative ways to solve problems. 37
Make connections. It involves taking unrelated ideas and trying to find connections between
them. 38 Then find an image, for example, a candle. Write down all the ideas associated
with candles and then connect the ideas with the job you have to do. So imagine you want to buy a
friend a unique gift. You could buy him tickets to a match or take him out for the night.
Set no limits. Imagine that normal limitations do not exist. You have as much imagination as
you want. 39 If your aim is to learn to ski, for instance, you can now practice skiing
every day. Now apply this to reality. Maybe you can practice skiing every day in December, or every
Monday in January.
40 Look at the situation from a different point of view. Good writers always use
this technique. Fiction writers often imagine they are the characters in their books. If your goal
involves other people, put yourself in their positions. As an old saying goes, the best fishermen think
like fish!
A. Be someone else.
B. In fact, they are mistaken.
C. Do something different from others.
D. This may affect your work and your life.
E. Here are some ways to fire your imagination.
F. Think about the problem to solve or the job to do.
G. Consider your goal and the new possibilities carefully.

“Who did this ” asked my teacher. Thirty children tried to think about not only what they had
done, but also what our teacher may have found out. “Who did this ” asked my teacher once more.
She wasn’t really asking, she was demanding an answer. She seldom became angry, but she was this
time. She held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window ”
“Oh, oh,” I thought. I was the one who broke the window. But I had not done it on purpose. It
was caused by an errant (失手的) throw of a baseball. I was working on my baseball. It needed more
work. Why did it have to be me It wasn’t really my fault. To be honest, I was the poor guy with the
bad luck. Hundreds of terrible results came across my mind. If I admitted the guilt (罪过), I would be
in lots of huge trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that I didn't even get
enough pocket money. “My father is going to get angry with me,” I thought, “even he will give me a
lesson.” I was not willing to raise my hand at all, but there seemed something mysterious to force me
to put it up. I told the truth. “I did it.” I said no more. It was hard enough saying what I had done.
My teacher went to one of our library shelves and took down a brand-new book about sports.
She then began walking straight towards my desk. I had never known my teacher to strike a student,

Take the following rail routes and feast your eyes with impressive views.
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling, India
Built by British rulers, the railway was used to transport tea, rice and other produce up and down the Himalayan foothills. Today, it’s a hit with Indian families on weekend breaks and rail fans keen to watch traffic slowly stop as the train crosses the road, rushing past fruit stalls within arm’s reach. On a clear day, passengers will be treated to views of Mount Kanchenjunga, its snowy peak turning peach in the late-afternoon light.
Qinghai Xizang Railway
Xining to Lhasa, China
Connecting Xining in Qinghai province to Lhasa in Xizang, this 22-hour journey is the highest rail route in the world. Lakes shine like molten metal and yaks (牦牛) eat grass up the slopes before the light chills to a blue glow from the icy sides of the Kunlun Mountains closing in around the carriages.
The Skeena
Jasper to Prince Rupert, Canada
With the ice-glazed tops of the Canadian Rockies sparkling all around it, the train curls out of Alberta past the Rockies’ highest peak-the majestic Mount Robson-followed by the Cariboo Mountains, at the foot of which lie green lakes as still as glass. From a panoramic view, passengers can keep eyes on black and grizzly bears, white-tailed deer, elk and moose, as well as bald eagles diving through the air.
Bernina Express
Chur, Switzerland to Tirano, Italy
Short but very sweet, a journey on the Bernina Express takes four hours to wind its way from the city of Chur in the Swiss Alps down to the Italian city of Tirano. Running on a narrow track that includes 55 tunnels and 196 bridges, the train swings around pine-filled valleys and vertical rock faces.
21. Where should you go for the world’s highest railway
A. India. B. China. C. Canada. D. Italy.
22. Which route can give passengers a nice view of various animals
A. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. B. Qinghai Xizang Railway.
C. The Skeena. D. Bernina Express.

It only takes one wrong step near a lake in the winter for disaster to happen. Pepper, the dog and his mom found that out the hard way.
The two of them were taking a morning walk in Chicago along Lake Michigan when Pepper, a 7-year-old dog, got free of its rope, slipped on some rocks, and fell onto the ice sheets of the lake. As Pepper tried to climb back up to his human owner, the ice around him broke, and he began floating (漂浮) away!
Since the water was so cold, Pepper should be saved as soon as possible. As Fire Deputy District Chief Jason Lach said, hypothermia (a serious medical condition caused by very low temperature) can start within several minutes. Thankfully, firefighters were already nearby practicing underwater ice dives.
Just 10 minutes later, 40 rescue (救援) workers arrived, along with fire department vehicles and a helicopter. By the time the officials in the helicopter noticed Pepper, he and his ice float were 500 feet out into the lake. Firefighter Chris Iverson dove into the water and swam out to Pepper. Chris calmed the dog down and tied him to a safety sling (吊索). Meanwhile, firefighter Emerson Branch swam out with a rapid deployment craft, which he and Chris used to bring Pepper safely to shore. The rescue only took about 15 minutes. When the firefighters reached dry land with Pepper, they dried him using a towel and played the pass-the-dog to get him back to his human owner.
Caretakers at Veterinary Emergency Group Hospital made sure Pepper was OK. But Jason hopes his rescue will be a lesson for others. “The dog was good, warmed up to its owner, and went on its happy way,” Jason said. “But stay off the ice. It’s never safe, …Step into a hole, and you’re out of sight.”
24. What happened to Pepper one morning
A. He lost his owner. B. He was trapped in a lake.
C. He got missing suddenly. D. He was covered by ice sheets.
25. What seemed to be the first danger to Pepper
A. The cold water. B. Poor medical conditions.
C. Rescue equipment shortage. D. The changeable temperature.
26. What can we learn from Paragraph 4

27. What is Jason’s suggestion
A. No going near the ice. B. No walking dogs by a hole.

Two hours of screen time a day is enough to “dumb down” children or result in depression or physical illness, a global study has found.
The global study analyzed data measuring screen time, physical activity, mental health indicators and physical illness reported by 577, 000 children aged 11, 13 and 15 from 42 rich countries. It found that screen time—not including school work — averaged 6.3 hours for boys and 5.4 hours for girls.
The Australian-led study shows girls experience unhealthiness after just two hours watching screens including television, social media or online gaming. However, boys are more likely to be physically active, they can safely spend twice as much time on screens each day before suffering health problems.
Dr Khan said too much time spent watching TV, gaming or on social media could lead to “reduced learning abilities”. “If you spend more time on screens you are likely not to do well in your study performance.”
“We also found there were some benefits during the first hour of daily screen use, but bad effects on mental health kick in after 75 minutes in girls and 105 minutes in boys,” Dr Khan said. The solution to mental health the study found was an hour of physical activity, and no more than two hours a day using screens, apart from schoolwork. That is to say, children need to balance screen time with “green time” outdoors. Children who exercise or play outdoors regularly are healthier and happier, the study shows.
Melbourne dad, Tom Hindhaugh, said he tried to reduce screen time for his son, Patrick, 13. “Clearly we need those screens for homeschooling. Technology is the necessary way kids can communicate and hang out with each other,” he said. “But we need to get children outside and moving. Physical activity is the key for their health, whether it’s walking, riding a bike or kicking the football.”
28. What does the study focus on about children
A. Their screen time. B. Their health habits.
C. Their gender difference. D. Their school performance.
29. What can be learned from the study
A. Boys perform no better in study than girls.
B. Boys are better at physical activity than girls.
C. Girls spend more time on school work than boys.
D. Girls are more likely to suffer ill-health than boys.
30. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5
A. The balance of school work. B. The proper time of daily screens.
C. The advantage of green time. D. The necessity of regular activities.
31. Why is Melbourne dad mentioned
A. To express parents’ concern. B. To show a successful example.
C. To support the writer’s opinion. D. To present an education method.
D
There is a new kind of robot called Rubion which can smartly tell ripe (成熟的) strawberries, picking them without bruising them and putting them into its basket. It sounds impossible but it is true. Its appearance is not only an answer to the labor shortage in the agricultural industry, but it also allows growers to increase the quality of its produce, which in the end benefits the consumer.
It has been a fact that the labor shortage in the agricultural industry. But for Octinion Technology the focus is clearly on adding quality. “Thanks to robotics, we have so many possibilities, much more than a human could ever do. Harvest prediction, picking according to market needs, simply picking when the berries are ripe instead of when workers are available — these are just a few examples of what is possible now for a grower”, says Tom Coen, CEO of the Octinion Technology Group. “The consumer will also notice the difference, as strawberries will be fresher and show less bruising.”
Introducing robots into an industry where almost everything gets done by hand is more of a revolution (变革) than evolution. It needs close group action with all partners. Tom Coen says, “Not only have we been working together with growers and test centers across the world for the past few years, but breeders (培育者) have been active in being part of the technological developments.”
In 2022, a team of Belgian engineers started the development of the robot. In the meanwhile Octinion wasn’t the only company presenting an idea. Product Manager Laura Guillaume says it’s not a surprise that the company from Leuven is the first to actually present a commercial product. “By developing the robot from the beginning, we are able to make it practical in greenhouses or tunnels.” Octinion plans to develop harvesting robots for other crops in the future.
32. What does the underlined word “bruising” in Paragraph 1 refer to
A. Taking advantage of. B. Losing track of.
C. Having a bad effect on. D. Making no harm to.
33. What can the robot help a grower do

She wasn’t really asking, she was demanding an answer. She seldom became angry, but she was this time. She held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window ”
“Oh, oh,” I thought. I was the one who broke the window. But I had not done it on purpose. It was caused by an errant (失手的) throw of a baseball. I was working on my baseball. It needed more work. Why did it have to be me It wasn’t really my fault. To be honest, I was the poor guy with the bad luck. Hundreds of terrible results came across my mind. If I admitted the guilt (罪过), I would be in lots of huge trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that I didn't even get enough pocket money. “My father is going to get angry with me,” I thought, “even he will give me a lesson.” I was not willing to raise my hand at all, but there seemed something mysterious to force me to put it up. I told the truth. “I did it.” I said no more. It was hard enough saying what I had done.
My teacher went to one of our library shelves and took down a brand-new book about sports. She then began walking straight towards my desk. I had never known my teacher to strike a student, but I feared she was going to start with me and she was going to use that book to do that.
