Campus in Focus Kicked Off
To enrich aesthetic education and sharpen our observation, the English Club launched the photo show
“Campus in Focus”in the library lobby last week.
More than 200 photos were submitted, ranging from sunrise over the sports field to dew on banyan leaves.
After a blind review by the Art Department, 60 shots were displayed, including ten black-and-white works shot by
first-year student Li Wen that won the“Best Light”award.Crowds flooded in during breaks. The visitor book
gathered 1,200 comments, many reading,“Ordinary corners shine through caring eyes.”The club will now print
winning shots as charity postcards.
This well-received event proves one click can cultivate taste and tighten campus bonds.
With three hundred metres left, my legs turned wooden.“Keep light,”Coach had said all week, so I let the
words ride my breath. My eyes misted, but every step rang clear.“Ally-Alley-oop!”The call beat in time, sending
blood I no longer owned. I stopped counting seconds and started counting heartbeats—one for Mum, one for
Mark, one for the shy boy who once wrote“reserve”. They lifted me; the white tape broke across my chest like a
gift.
Seventy-one seconds faster than my life-best: the scoreboard said it all. I bent low, tasting iron and joy, and
laughed till my ribs shook. Teammates crowded round; Coach whispered,“You raised your roof.”Mum waved,
eyes bright as the tape. My legs trembled, yet inside a still flame stood. I learnt: the watch only notes what you
leave; courage notes what you carry. When life later says,“You can’t,”I’ll answer with that loud cry and run on
until“can’t”turns to“I can.”

23. A。 根据后两部分中的…for wide views of green valleys, wandering sheep和Wind-carved stone,
dark caves, sudden ocean views…
根据第 1段中的…while even the tiniest act like sharing a map could hand others a brighter
25. A。 根据第 3段 School of Life及教授的课程内容,再结合第 2段中“How can they sustain
Yet
four short visits a year could not anchor the weak progress.(然而一年短短四趟停留,却无法保障这不稳定的
Two high-profile sets of scans appear to offer hard proof of a difference.
根据第 3段中的…and the figures fail to predict how the organ actually processes algebra,
empathy or parking instructions.

suggesting that opportunity, not body part, writes most of the scoreboard可知:机会均等时,两性成绩差距显著
31. B。 She also notes that wiping out every sex difference would sound an
extreme note. Equal, she reminds us, is not identical; biology may still whisper where society shouts 可知
32. A。 根据第 1段中的…if the right decisions are not made…in the next ten years可知:作者提

there is, particularly in creating and enforcing well-informed regulations可知,各方通力协作才是解决问题的关
键。

M: What terrible timing! I should have been in office an hour ago.

M: Well, I'd like this package of papers weighed and sent to my client.

Text 3
W: Hey Steve, you're pretty good at directions, huh Did you already study the map for the field trip
M: Yeah, I didn't want us to get lost like last time! I marked all the spots on my phone.
Text 4
M: Thank you very much for your explanation, Dr. Robert. It helps us understand more deeply about active
learning.
W: Well, there's still five minutes left. If you have any questions about the topic, please don't hesitate to ask me.
Text 5
M: How much is the book Atomic Habits by James Clear
W: Fifty dollars each. If you buy two or more, you can get a 10% off the price.
M: All right. I'll buy two.
Text 6
M: Could you tell me something about e-CNY, Xiao Li
W: Well, digital RMB has gained popularity across China. It saves us much time and trouble.
M: Sounds interesting.
W: You have to give it a shot, Peter.
M: Then how can I use it
W: First, download the official e-CNY app, open a digital wallet and link it to your bank account. When buying
something, scan the seller's QR code, input the right amount and complete the payment.
Text 7
M: I don't like Terry at all. He doesn't like being with others.
W: I agree. He's quite different from his younger brother, Paul.
M: You are dead right. Paul has great people skills and he is the right person you can count on.
W: What kind of person do you consider yourself to be
M: I think I'm polite, careful and shy.
W: Oh, I don't think you're shy! You are always chatting with new people when we go to a party.
M: Well, yes, but those people always start talking to me. Perhaps I'm not as shy as I think. Anyway, you're
certainly not shy!
W: You're right. I love going out and making new friends.
M: So, you'll be at my birthday party on Friday
W: You bet!
Text 8
W: Bob! Another 4 personal bank accounts were stolen.
M: What happened
W: They lost their phones and their passwords were guessed.
M: Woops. How important it is to create complex passwords.
W: It's common knowledge today that passwords like “12345” are like free invitations to hackers and that's
exactly how those 4 accounts got cracked.
M: Sure. But how about using the lock-screen pattern
W: A study, led by Marte Loge from Norwegian University, has shown that most of us use similar patterns to
unlock our phones, which means they can be easily guessed too.
M: That's too bad.
W: Besides, most people chose lock-screen patterns that moved from left to right while over three quarters of
people started their patterns from a corner.
M: Then how can we make our password patterns safer
W: Loge believes using a long and complex password is also a smart choice and people could avoid starting from
a corner or use “crossovers” to trick onlookers.
Text 9
W: What are you up to, Mark
M: Writing about learning Chinese. When I came in 2022, I only knew “hello” and “thank you”, so ordering
food or taking a taxi was stressful.
W: How did you cope with it
M: I signed up for classes; the teacher was nice, yet real talk was impossible. Self-study helped little and I got
frustrated.
W: Then
M: The best way is making native friends and hanging out. That's what I'll tell foreign Chinese-lovers.
W: Fair enough. English is hard for us too.
M: Think of them—100 million studied Chinese in 2017; in 2024 the figure has roughly doubled, reaching almost
two hundred million.
W: Truly inspiring! Maybe I should also find a pen pal to exchange languages.
M: Good idea; mutual correction over coffee works wonders for fluency.
W: Let's start next week; I'll bring my notebook and colorful sticky notes.
Text 10
W: Good afternoon, everyone! When you attend a foreign university, you'll experience an orientation week before
the academic year to help freshmen settle. It includes parties, talks and fairs. Here are some tips.
Once you arrive, the student union will give you a guidebook with an introduction to the university and the city,
tips on academic support, travel recommendations and campus activities.
Compared to native students, foreign students must go through a much more complicated registration process.
Apart from registering with the university, you should also register with the local police and nearby clinics.
Now comes the best part— events and new friends. Attend ice-breaking parties; people there could be from
anywhere. Step out of your comfort zone and say hello. Shyness can only disadvantage you.
You may meet problems you don't know how to solve, but don't panic. If you have academic difficulties or find it
hard to adjust to the new culture, talk to your personal tutor or the international office—they are here to help you
adapt.
