Top 4 Colleges Whose Graduates Earn the Most Money
Think college isn’t worth it Graduates of these four small colleges are proving otherwise with the high salaries they earn right after graduation.
Amherst College: Amherst, Massachusetts
Average earnings: $82,000
Harvard may be the more selective and well - known university in the state, but Amherst College’s graduates are making impressive salaries. It’s known as one of the “Little Ivies (小常春藤)”. As one of the most famous landscape photographers of all time, Ansel Adams has inspired generations of photography lovers. This includes Nick Micheels, who transformed his love for Adams’ work into an incredible idea for a LEGO set. Micheels spent one month designing the 1,100 - piece set, which he then posted to the LEGO Ideas website. Called “The Landscape Photographer”, Micheels’ idea was selected as a Staff Pick and is nearing the 10,000 votes.
Like many of us, Micheels enjoyed playing with LEGOs during childhood, but felt he’d grown out of the hobby. However, during the pandemic (流行病), he rediscovered his passion and started designing LEGO sets, which he posts on LEGO Ideas under the name Lobster Thermidor.
Micheels himself is a photographer and has admired Adams’ work since he was a child. So, it only seemed natural to translate his love for the American photographers’ works into a LEGO set.
This set includes Adams’ famous large 8×10 camera, which can be placed on top of a LEGO touring car - just as Adams did to get the best view for his photos. It also has LEGO versions of yellow monkeyflowers and a ponderosa pine tree, recreating the nature Adams loved. The choice of leaves is no accident either. Micheels selected plants native to the photographer’s beloved Yosemite National Park.
For Micheels, the most challenging part of creating the LEGO set was recreating Adams’ camera on a small scale (尺寸). In a similar fashion, Micheels went through several designs before arriving at the final version. He explained, “I really wanted to get as many details right as I could. I even made a second lens so you can change lenses if necessary.”
With over 8,500 votes on LEGO Ideas, “The Landscape Photographer” is on track to hit 10,000 supporters. Once that happens, the official LEGO team will take a look at the design in order to determine if it’s suitable for production. For Micheels, it would be a dream to see his design on the shelves and to have the chance to build it with his kids.
24. What inspired Micheels to create the LEGO set “The Landscape Photographer”
A. The rediscovery of his enthusiasm for designing.
B. His childhood memories of playing with LEGOs.
C. His desire to win votes on the LEGO Ideas website.
D. The admiration for Ansel Adams’ landscape photography.

B. The impact of the local environment on Micheels’ design.
C. Adams’ philosophy behind photography in his lifetime.
D. The unique features of Adams’ photography style.
26. What does the addition of a second lens to the LEGO camera primarily reflect
A. A move to show off his skills.
B. A way to handle a complicated design.
C. A commitment to achieving perfection.
D. A solution to the technical limitations.
27. What can be inferred about the future of “The Landscape Photographer” LEGO set
A. It might generate significant profits through mass sales.
B. It may become an official product with enough backing.
C. It could help Micheels to pursue a LEGO design career.
D. It is likely to become a best - seller in the LEGO collection.
C
When tragedy strikes, some people fall into deep depression, sometimes losing hope and even the will to carry on. They may worry continuously about the event and suffer nightmares. Other people, however, react differently. Instead of becoming depressed and unable to cope, they are able to deal with painful experiences and move on.
Boris Cyrulnik is interested in this difference of reaction. To find out why some people are so deeply affected, while others are seemingly able to recover, he has devoted his career to the study of psychological resilience (复原力).
Cyrulnik found resilience is a quality that builds through a natural process. He says that alone, a child has no resilience. We build resilience from developing relationships.
Positive emotions and humour are key factors in resilience. Cyrulnik’s research has shown that people who are better able to deal with life’s difficulties or traumas (创伤) are able to find meaning in hardship, seeing it as a useful and inspiring experience, and even to find ways to laugh. Resilient people always remain able to see how things may turn out for the better in the future, even if the present is painful.
It had previously been thought that people who show more resilience are less emotional in general, but Cyrulnik believed that the pain is no less for resilient people than it is for others; it is a matter of how they choose to use it. The pain may continue, even over a whole lifetime, but for these people it raises a challenge that they decide to meet. The challenge is to overcome what has happened, to find strength in the experience instead of letting it defeat them, and to use the strength to move forward. Given the right support, children are especially able to completely recover from trauma. Cyrulnik has shown that the human brain is easily influenced and will recover if allowed. If a child is well supported and loved after the trauma, his brain is able to return to normal within a year.
Cyrulnik thinks it important not to label children who have suffered a trauma, as such labelling may lead them to a hopeless future. Trauma consists of two things: the injury and the repeated description of that injury. Often the most damaging post - traumatic experience for children is hearing embarrassing adult descriptions of events. Labels, he says, can be more damaging than the experience.
28. Why does the author mention the two different reactions in the first paragraph
A. To show the value of psychological resilience.
B. To highlight the unpredictable nature of human emotions.
C. To point out the main challenge in trauma treatment.
D. To present a phenomenon that leads to Cyrulnik’s investigation.
29. Which of the following statements about resilience might Cyrulnik agree with
A. It helps to reduce the present suffering.
B. It is built through social connections.
C. It requires people to forget past hardships.
D. It means having fewer emotional responses.
30. Why does Cyrulnik warn against labeling children who have suffered trauma
A. It can lead to greater harm than the original trauma.
B. It may slow down their brain’s physical development.
C. It ignores children’s natural ability to recover quickly.
D. It makes them resistant to future psychological treatments.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. Boris Cyrulnik: A Life Devoted to Psychology
B. Childhood Trauma: Understanding the Lasting Injury
C. The Power of Resilience: Overcoming Life’s Challenges
D. The Human Brain: Its Capacity for Recovery from Trauma

Inspired by the medical bay of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek(《星际迷航》), a research team from the University of Waterloo uses radar technology to monitor people’s health while at the wheel, turning an ordinary car or truck into a shifting medical center.
Dr. George Shaker, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, is working with a team of graduate students to combine radar with evolving vehicle technology to make health checks easier. The idea is to use the time people spend in their cars to gather data on their health for accurate analysis and preventative treatment—without the need for any type of wearable devices.
The radar, smaller than a USB thumb drive, is placed into the vehicle cabin and sends out signals that detect human vibrations (颤动), which are then sent back to the radar. The built-in AI system collects and analyzes the data to build a medical picture and identify any potential condition. At the end of the driver’s journey, the system sends the report directly to their cellphone for review.
For Shaker and his team, the challenge was evolving the technology to identify changes in breathing patterns or heart rhythms that signify potential health issues related to cardiovascular (心血管的) conditions as well as respiratory (呼吸的) system conditions.
“We focused on enhancing data collection for exact information related to people’s health issues and teaching AI how to make medical interpretations from the data. Another important consideration was personal privacy and security—no data is stored on the cloud; it is sent to the monitored person’s cellphone only,” said Ali Ghara, the lead PhD student on the project.
The research team is building on this work to expand the radar technology’s capabilities to monitor all vehicle occupants’ overall health and well-being, run diagnostics and generate quality medical reports that flag any issue that needs attention, as well as assist with emergency communication in the event of an accident.
32.What can we learn about the radar technology
A. It combines with vehicle technology to assess the driver’s health.
B. It sends the health report to the driver’s phone for review.
C. It provides more accurate health data than wearables.
D. It creates medical pictures to reveal health secrets.
33.What is the main idea of paragraph 3
A. The working principle of the radar device.
B. The significance of the built-in AI system.
C. The potential health conditions of drivers.
D. The development of vehicle technology.
34.What can be inferred from Ali Ghara’s words in paragraph 5
A. AI needs training to collect health data.
B. AI’s interpretation of medical data is accurate.
C. Cellphones monitor personal privacy and security.
D. The team is improving data collection and analysis.
35.What does the follow-up study aim to do
A. Ensure the privacy of medical reports.
B. Warn the drivers of potential accidents.
C. Enhance health monitoring for all passengers.
D. Apply the radar technology across vehicles.

解析:根据最后一段 “Labels, he says, can be more damaging than the experience” 可知,西鲁尼克警告 “贴标签” 是因为 “标签带来的伤害可能比原始创伤更大”。
32.A
解析:根据第一段中的 “to monitor people’s health while at the wheel” 和第二段中的 “to combine radar with evolving vehicle technology to make health checks easier” 可知,雷达技术与车辆技术结合来评估驾驶者的健康状况。故选 A。
33.A
解析:根据第三段的内容可知,本段先介绍雷达装置的大小和放置位置,然后介绍雷达如何工作以及处理数据,所以本段主要描述雷达装置的工作原理。故选 A。
34.D
解析:根据第五段中的 “We focused on enhancing data collection for exact information related to people’s health issues and teaching AI how to make medical interpretations from the data.”
35.C
解析:根据最后一段中的 “The research team is building on this work to expand the radar technology’s capabilities to monitor all vehicle occupants’ overall health and well-being” 可知,该研究团队正在此工作的基础上进一步扩展雷达技术的功能,以监测所有车辆乘员的整体健康和福祉。故选 C。
第二节

40.G

A Heartwarming Moment at the Autumn Sports Meet
The Golden Autumn Sports Meet at Zhonghua High School concluded successfully last Friday, leaving behind countless memorable scenes. Among them, one touching moment stood out and touched the hearts of everyone present.
It happened during the boys’ 1,500-meter race. When Li Ming, a runner from Class 5, was only 50 meters away from the finish line, he suddenly fell due to exhaustion. Instead of giving up, he struggled to his feet and continued running steadily despite the pain. At that very moment, two students from other classes rushed onto the track and supported him on both sides. Together, they crossed the finish line amid thunderous applause from the audience.
What made this moment so moving was not the competition or the win, but the friendship and perseverance on display. It truly reflected the spirit of sportsmanship — caring for each other and never giving up. This scene will be remembered as a symbol of unity and warmth in our school.

M: Jane, what are you doing
W: My robot camera stopped working. So I’m fixing it. You know, taking it apart was so easy.
M: Yeah, but putting it back together might require a person with an engineering degree.
Text 3
M: I had a long day, and it seems that everything has gone wrong today.
W: How could that be
M: I was late for the school bus this morning. When I took a taxi, there was a jam. And now something has gone wrong with my computer.

M: Why don’t we study together in the library every Thursday after school
W: But I have tennis practice on Mondays and Thursdays. How about Friday
M: That works for me, see you then!

M: I think there’s a mistake in our bill. We didn’t have dinner here last night.

M: But that’s not my signature. I’d like to speak to your manager.
Text 6
M: Would you like to go to the cinema tonight
W: Sure. What’s playing
M: Mission: Impossible 7 is on. I really love the series and greatly look forward to this new movie.
W: But I’d rather watch another movie. Is the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on now
M: Yes. But isn’t this movie for children What about watching Sherlock Holmes 3 We both love the first two movies of the series.

M: Hi, Rose. Are you getting along with your roommates
W: Hello, Jack. Yes, we’ve known each other for only two weeks since we moved in. Though we are from different majors, we share the same interest.
M: It’s quite easy for the young to become good friends in a short time.
W: You said it. Since you’re now in the second school year, have you thought of living outside
M: No. I really enjoy my campus life. I can get access to the facilities, attend after-class activities and chat with my roommates at any time.
W: Yes, I agree. That’s why I never think of renting a house outside the school.

M: Oh, no, we’ll have much more free time. By the year 2035, we’ll be working just 30 hours a week on average and we’ll have 15 weeks’ holiday. Air travel will be cheaper, so far away destinations will be more popular.

M: It’s located on a hill, and it’s for dogs to run freely. Do you want to watch dogs play there
W: Frankly, I’m not interested in it, but my kids will be like a dog with two tails if they go there. They are dog lovers. Should I order tickets in advance
M: No, you can get into it for free through the main entrance, or from Pavilion Park. There’s one more access, but that’s not convenient.
W: OK. Thank you for telling me so much!
M: There’s also a cafe at the park to satisfy your hunger!
W: Fantastic!
Text 10
W: If you visit America, you should be aware of some of the American customs and habits. All restaurants in America accept cash for payment, and most also accept credit cards. You will seldom find a restaurant that accepts checks. It is common to have to wait for a table in a popular restaurant. There are many popular restaurants that do not accept reservations, or will only accept reservations for large parties. Many restaurants in America have a license to serve alcohol. The drinking age in America is 21. Tipping is another common custom. It is expected that the customer will leave a tip for the server. The common practice is to leave a tip that is equal to 15% of the total bill for acceptable service, and about 20% for superior service. Smoking in America is not always considered to be a good social habit. Smoking in public is not as common in America as in many other countries. Generally, Americans smoke less than Europeans and much less than Asians. It is a fact that smoking is becoming less and less socially acceptable. Smoking is forbidden in many places. The legal smoking age in America is 18.
