When you choose a friend, you should be very careful. A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy. Sometimes you will meet fair-weather friends (酒肉朋友). They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend I look for certain qualities of character, especially understanding, honesty and reliability (可靠).
Above all else, I look for understanding in a friend. A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling. He is not quick to judge. Instead, he tries to learn from others. He puts himself in the other person’s place, and he tries to think of ways to be helpful. He is also a good listener.
At the same time, however, a good friend is honest. He does not look for faults (过错)in others. He notices their good points. In short, good friends will be honest to each other and accept each other.
Another quality of a friend is reliability. I can always depend on a good friend. If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time, I can be sure that he will be there. If I need a favor, he will do his best to help me. If I am in trouble, he will not run away from me.
There is a fourth quality that makes a friend special. A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun. We should enjoy our lives, and we would enjoy our friendship. That is why I especially like friends who are fun to be with. A good friend likes the same things I like. We share experience and learn from each other. A good friend has a good sense of humor, too. He likes to laugh with me. That is how we share in the joy of being friends. And I know that he is looking for the same quality in me.
When I meet someone who is reliable, honest, and understanding, I know I’ve found a friend!
4. If you have fair-weather friends, ________.
A. you will become rich
B. you can be sure that you get real friends
C. you will be refused when you get into trouble
D. they will give you all that they have when you need help

6. Good friends need to________.

C. always point out each other’s mistakes D. have money or luck
7. This passage mainly discuss ________.

Usually, tornadoes are more common in the spring and summer months. Knowing what to do before and during a tornado can save your life and the life of your loved ones. When you hear that you are in a tornado watch, it means that tornadoes or other kinds of dangerous weather are on the way. You need to be ready to go to a safe shelter if tornadoes do happen or if there is a warning. Listen to local radio or TV programmes for the update so that you have information to make decisions about your safety.
Tornado warnings mean that a tornado has been seen, or that radar has shown there would be a tornado. When a tornado warning is issued for your town or county, take shelter immediately. Tornado sirens (警报器) warn people who are outdoors. Do not expect to hear sirens if you are indoors. Listen to weather reports and watch TV if you are indoors. Remember to have fresh batteries for your radios and flashlights.
Plan ahead for tornado watches and warnings. Talk to your family, friends and neighbours so that you know safe places to go to get out of danger. Here are some important tips:
·Take shelter in a basement, away from any windows.
If you are in a house or building with no basement, go to the lowest floor, a small centre room such as a bathroom or closet, under the stairs, or in an inside hallway with no windows.
·If you are in a mobile home or trailer, plan ahead and get out!
It is not safe to be in a mobile home or trailer during a tornado. You need to make plans with family, friends or neighbours to go to a safer, stronger home or another building to take shelter.
·It is very risky to be in a car or truck during a tornado.
Know if there are tornado watches in the area and avoid driving into dangerous situations. Instead, take shelter in a basement or strong building.
·Have an emergency kit ready and keep it in your safe area
A few ideas for things to have in an emergency kit would be water, a flashlight, food (like crackers, peanut butter, granola bars), a radio that uses batteries, any medications you need, and a first-aid kit.
If you need any further information about preparing for the tornado season or making an emergency kit, call the Four Corners Health Department at (402) 362-2621 or click here to view the web site http://www..
8. If you are told that you’re in a tornado watch,________.
A. it means that you should wear your watch B. it means tornadoes are possible in the area
C. it means that you have found a safe shelter D. it means tornadoes will leave where you are
9. What should you do when you are in a trailer and a tornado comes
A. You should remain still in the running trailer.
B. You should find a bathroom to hide in.
C. You should turn to friends or neighbors for help.
D. You should get into a building to shelter yourself.
10. What is the passage mainly about
A. How tornadoes come about. B. What tornadoes lead to.
C. What to do before and during a tornado. D. When and where tornadoes occur.
11. Where can we probably read the passage
A. In a magazine. B. In a newspaper. C. On a website. D. In an advertisement.

A computer program has been used to predict how people are feeling when they type.
In a study participants were asked to type a particular phrase and the program then estimated if they were happy, sad and so on. Surprisingly it was correct 70 per cent of the time, and the findings could lead to smarter artificial intelligence in the future.
The study published in the journal Behavior and Information Technology was carried out by researchers at the Islamic University of Technology in Bangladesh, reports Live Science.
In the research 25 people ranging from 15 to 40 years old were asked to retype two paragraphs from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll. They also had to enter their emotional state every 30 minutes while doing their regular activities on the computer. This allowed the program an opportunity to understand how their emotions changed their typing style.
Moods tested were joy, fear, anger, sadness, hate, and shame. The result was that the program could identify(识别) a person' s mood correctly 70 per cent of the time. It was most successful in identifying joyfulness with an 87 per cent success ratio, while sadness was the least successful at 60 per cent. The researchers found that the participants were less likely to input (输入) data when they were in a bad mood, which may explain the inexactness of the second result.
However, the findings could have great importance for artificial intelligence, and it may allow computers to get along with us in a friendlier manner, “If we could build any system that is intelligent enough to communicate with humans that is, it can identify user emotions and change its behavior accordingly then using machines could be more effective and friendly.” the researchers wrote.
12. Who conducted the study
A. Lewis Carroll. B. Islamic University of Technology.
C. Live Science. D. Behavior and Information Technology.
13. What were people asked to do during the research
A. Input words and emotional state. B. Change their typing styles.
C. Change their feelings frequently. D. Show their natural feelings.
14. Why is the result about sadness not so correct
A. People usually hide their unhappy feelings.
B. The program cannot recognize sadness clearly.
C. The program cannot calculate the data correctly.
D. It's more difficult to collect data when people are sad.
15. What's the importance of the research result
A. It helps people develop smarter machines.
B. It helps people speed up their typing speed.
C. It will inspire similar studies on people's mood.
D. It clearly explains the relationship between mood and typing.

“It’s not looking too good, darling, I think you’d better pack a few things and go to your mother’s place. And you’d better take Rosie and Monty with you.”
Putting down the phone, Sara sighed. Tomorrow was her husband Tony’s birthday. She had planned to cook him a nice meal and then surprise him with the new mountain bike she’d bought for him. If she went to her mother’s house, Tony wouldn’t get his present for days.
However, her mother’s house was the best place to be right now. Being on higher land, it would be safe from the floods. It had been raining heavily for almost two weeks and the river near Sara and Tony’s house was rising higher and higher all the time. Tony and others from the village had spent the last two days putting sandbags along the side of the river to stop it from overflowing. Now they feared that their hard work had been useless and soon the whole valley would be flooded.
Sara dressed baby James in warm clothes and collected the things she would need for him over the next few days. She put the lead on the dog and went in search of Monty, the cat. It took her a long time, but eventually she found him safe and warm under the covers on her bed. She placed him in his cat basket and took him into the kitchen where James and the dog, Rosie, were waiting.
Just as she was reaching for the car keys, Sarah heard a sound like the noise bath water makes when you pull out the plug. She looked at the backdoor, water was flowing in underneath. Turning around, she saw dirty brown water fountaining out of the drain and filling the sink. Realizing that they were trapped by the flood and it became impossible for her to drive out, quickly she put James into her backpack and pulled onto her back. Calling to Rosie, she picked up the cat basket and ran to the front of the house and out into the front garden, where the car was parked.
注意:
1.所续写的短文的词数应为150左右;

第二节 文章续写(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】The water was already up to her knees. Rosie was swimming beside her. Knowing the water would soon be much deeper, Sara ran to the car and opened the doors. She threw the cat basket onto the roof of the car and pushed Rosie up beside it. Using the car seat as a step she climbed first onto the front of the car and then onto the roof.
