At the age of 16, Lasse Stolley from Germany went out for a change after graduation from junior high school. Little did he know that this change would take him farther than 500,000 kilometers — all on trains.
Inspired by a movie he had watched online, Stolley bought a Bahncard 100, a ticket that allows unlimited (无限制的) travel on all Deutsche Bahn trains in Germany for a year. But Stolley didn’t just travel on those trains. He made his home on trains, living there full-time. During the day, he took trips and at night, he slept across the seats on high-speed trains.
“I can decide every day where I want to go, whether to the Alps, to a big city or to the sea,” Stolley said.
Each morning, Stolley would check the train connections for the day, and decide what journeys he would take based on the weather and his mood (心情). He might stop off at a swimming pool for a shower, or enjoy the views with a hike between train rides.
While he didn’t pay rent, Stolley said that he had spent around $10,000 a year on living expenses, including his $6,400 train pass and entry cost to things like swimming pools. But since Stolley was a “Platinum” Deutsche Bahn customer, he could eat from Deutsche Bahn for free.
To cover his extra cost, he made a buck on the move by working as a programmer from his laptop (手提电脑). In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”.
4. What drove Stolley’s interest in travelling by train
A. A lesson. B. A book. C. A ticket. D. A film.
5. Why was Stolley’s journey special
A. He lived on trains. B. He never got off the same train.
C. His train journey lasted over a year. D. He didn’t spend any money.
6. What do the underlined words “a buck” in the last paragraph refer to
A. A choice. B. Paper. C. A difference. D. Money.
7. Which word can best describe Stolley
A. Honest. B. Adventurous. C. Easygoing. D. Warmhearted.

For most of the traditional restaurants, it is challenging to deal with the increasing number of customers. But for Li Xianghui’s restaurants, things are different. Owning four restaurants, Li bought a number of cooking machines, which can operate tirelessly day and night. Packed in boxes, all dishes are semi-finished (半加工的) and can be served within minutes after they are put into the machines.
Automation (自动化) is the future of the food service industry. It can reduce labor cost pressure in traditional restaurants and improve efficiency. Besides, automated equipment follows certain set processes, which can make sure of the same taste for each order.
The cooking machine can make about 2, 000 recipes (食谱), according to Li. Once seated, customers scan a QR code (二维码) and use an app to make their meal selection and pay. With the only waiter putting the semi-finished food kit into the machine, the meal will be served in minutes. What’s worth mentioning is that the robot “cook” has attracted an increasing number of customers since the restaurant’s opening, as many customers say the taste is good and the price is not expensive.
Researchers from the University of Cambridge have trained their robot “cook” to make a judgement about the saltiness of a dish at different stages of the chewing (咀嚼) process, like a similar process in humans, according to their research published in the journal Frontiers in Robotics and AI.
Their results could be useful in the development of automated or semi-automated food preparation by helping robots to learn what tastes good and what doesn’t, making them better “cooks”. “If robots are to be used for certain aspects of food preparation, it’s important that they are able to “taste” what they’re cooking,” said Grzegorz Sozacki, the paper’s first author.
8. How does the author introduce Li’s restaurant in paragraph 1
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples.
C. By making a contrast. D. By quoting someone’s words.
9. What feature of the cooking machines helps ensure the same dish taste
A. They can work long without rest. B. They follow fixed operating steps.
C. They can make 2,000 different recipes. D. They work with semi-finished food kits.
10. What is the main attraction for the restaurant’s customers
A. Its wide variety of dish choices. B. Its convenience in placing orders.
C. Its high popularity on the internet. D. Its delicious food at reasonable prices.
11. What is the main purpose of the research by University of Cambridge researchers
A. To enable robots to check the flavor. B. To reduce robots’ operation costs.
C. To train robots to cook more dishes. D. To improve robots’ cooking time.
【答案】8. C 9. B 10. D 11. A

Imagine staying in the icy wilderness of Antarctica, cut off from the rest of the world, with only a small group of scientists. Such a group might be expected to develop a culture of its own, but would that develop a new shared accent
As part of the project to explain the spoken accent development, a group of researchers led by Jonathan Harrington, professor of phonetics and speech processing at the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich, started the study. The researchers studied a group of 11 scientists spending six months on an island just west of the Antarctic Peninsula.
The scientists were from several countries, including the US, the UK, Iceland and Germany. As part of the study, they had to record themselves reading a list of vocabularies from a computer screen every few weeks. The list included words with vowel (元音) sounds /i:/, /u:/ and / / that have been found to change over time in different English accents.
The recordings were then sent to researchers. When the recordings were studied, the researchers found that the pronunciation of words with an / / sound— such as “flow,”“code” and “sew”— had changed a little over the six months. The scientists began to pronounce it more toward the front of their mouths than toward the back. (British pronunciations are already typically fronter than American / /.)
The researchers believe it shows the development of a new accent among the scientists. Harrington said, “When we speak to each other, we remember that speech, and then that has an influence on our own speech production.”
While only small changes were recorded, the researchers believe the experiment helps to explain how different accents are created among enclosed (封闭的) communities — and may help us know why American and British English have developed as they have.
12. What were the scientists expected to do during the study
A. Tell stories. B. Show pictures.
C. Make sentences. D. Read and record words.
13. Which word’s pronunciation may change in the enclosed community in the study
A. show. B. sheep.
C. tube. D. adult.
14. Which of the following do the researchers agree with concerning the finding
A. It proves life in Antarctica is difficult.
B. It uncovers the connection of vowel sounds.
C. It helps build communications among people with different accents.
D. It may explain American and British English’s development.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Different Accents Around the World.
B. The Development of English Language.
C. Does a New Accent Form Among Enclosed Communities
D. What Would Scientists’ Daily Life Be Like in Antarctica
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. D 15. C

There’s a Chinese saying that goes: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit (继承) a fortune. ____16____”
For thousands of years, the greatest thinkers have suggested the same thing: Happiness is found in helping others. Scientific research provides data to support the idea that helping others may be the secret to living a happier and healthier life. Giving can feel great. ____17____ Plus, the more you give, the more you stand to gain purpose, meaning, and happiness. Follow these tips:
Find your passion. It’s not how much you give. It’s how much love you put into giving. You might care about one cause more than others, and that’s okay. Support the cause that feels right for you.
Give your time. The gift of time is often more valuable to the receiver, and more satisfying to the giver, than the gift of money. ____18____ We can give some of this time to help others — whether a few hours each day, or a few days each year.
Give to groups with clear goals. Michael Norton, a professor at Harvard Business School, in Massachusetts, says that “giving to a cause that specifies what they’re going to do with your money or service leads to more happiness.”
____19____ “Selfless giving...easily becomes overwhelming,” psychologist Adam Grant says. He advises giving to others, but keeping your personal and emotional needs in mind. You matter too!
Be active in activities. ___20___. Think about your daily schedule — even a few hours each week can make a difference. For example, if you value a clean environment, giving a few hours each month to local clean-up efforts (like community trash-pickup events) can help a lot.
A. Don’t forget about yourself.
B. Love the cause you choose.
C. Set aside time to serve your community.
D. The key is to find the approach that works for you.
E. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.
F. And as we learn early, it’s better to give than to receive.
G. We don’t all have the same amount of money, but we all have time.
【答案】16. E 17. F 18. G 19. A 20. C

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was 16 and loved music a lot. I was dying to buy an album (专辑) from my favorite band. But my pocket money was only enough for daily needs. I had no extra money for the album, so I felt sad.
Luckily, there were many part-time jobs near my home. Many old people needed help. So I decided to find a part-time job to make money for the album.
I chose Mrs. Hudson, the oldest person I knew. She was over 80 and couldn’t take care of her garden. Her garden had flowers, grass, and some tomato plants. I knocked on her door, trying to be brave enough to ask for work. Good for me — she said she really needed help in the garden.
It was a very hot summer day. My first job was to pull out weeds. I got on my knees and pulled them one by one. The work was tiring and boring. Soon I felt very tired. But when I thought of the album, I got all my energy back and kept working.
“If only I had a portable electric fan (便捷式电风扇),” I said to myself, wiping sweat from my face. After working hard for hours, I got 10 dollars. It was less than I thought, but enough to buy the album.
With the 10 dollars, I couldn’t wait to go to the supermarket for my favorite album. I thought this would be a special moment — I could buy what I liked with my own hard work.
On my way to the supermarket, I was singing happily. Then I saw my mom working on the other side of the road. Actually, I’d never seen her work before; I just knew she was a saleswoman.
注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;
My mother was handing out leaflets(传单)to passers-by.

I continued making my way to the supermarket.

【答案】范文
My mother was handing out leaflets to passers-by. Under the burning sun, her T-shirt was damp with sweat. She would give a leaflet to everyone that passed by, with an eager smile on her face. Some people just walked right past her while some others would refuse by waving their hands. There were also some people who would accept the leaflet politely but throw it into a garbage can right away. Seeing that scene, I couldn’t help but feel bad. I never considered my mother’s work to be so hard.
I continued making my way to the supermarket. However, when I found the album I had been longing for, my mother’s sweaty face came to my mind and I hesitated. I gave up buying the album and bought a portable electric fan instead. Then I returned to the place where my mother worked. She was obviously surprised to see me standing in front of her. When I took out the fan, telling her that it was for her, she was moved to tears and then broke into a happy smile. It was when I saw a big smile on her face that I understood the true value of money.2025—2026学年度上学期2025级12月月考英语试卷
