Text 10 分享做志愿活动的经历
M: Good afternoon, everyone! My name is Andrew Swindle. Now I’d like to share my amazing experience volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary with you all. I started this journey because of my dad. He’s 81, and I’ve always admired his love for animals. I thought it would be a great way to bond with him, so we decided to volunteer together. At the sanctuary, we did all kinds of work, from removing goat droppings to building tortoise shelters. It might sound like hard work, and it was, but it was also incredibly rewarding. Every day, I felt a deep sense of joy knowing that we were making a difference in these animals’ lives. Volunteering there not only brought my dad and me closer but also filled my heart with happiness. I truly believe that helping these lovely creatures is one of the most meaningful things we can do. So, if you have a passion for animals, come and join us as volunteers. You’ll not only change their lives but also your own!

读后续写参考答案:
A few days later, something terrible happened to Tom. That afternoon after school, Tom was bathing with some of his new friends in the river happily. Suddenly, he was stuck by something and couldn't get out. He struggled hard but he was still trapped. He screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called John a coward got out of the water as fast as they could. They were so scared and did not even try to help him.
At that moment, John happened to pass by. He heard the screams and ran to the river as soon as possible. Seeing Tom was almost drowned, John took off his clothes immediately and jumped into the water without any hesitation. He reached Tom just as he was sinking for the last time. With great effort, he brought Tom to the shore in time. John was happy to help his friend, though he was extremely tired. What John did taught us a lesson about what is really brave. From then on, all the children haven’t made fun of John.

T.O.Fuller State Park in Memphis, Tennessee(TN), has been loved for generations and has always been a ground where the community has come first. Back in 1938, it was the first park east of the Mississippi river to open for African American visitors. Over 80 years later, the park is continuing its forward-thinking tradition, this time, through a pioneering sustainability project.
A new walking and biking trail has been built through this historic park. Illegally dumped tires(轮胎) are not only unpleasant to see, but they're a dangerous addition to the environment. Rubber, like plastic, is a material that won't naturally break down. In a place as hot as(TN), these dumped tires often begin to melt and give off harmful gases into the air. Fortunately, the old tires were sent to Patriot Tire Recycling in Bristol, TN, the only facility in the area that can deal with tires in an environmentally sound way. There, the collected tires were safely broken down into crumb rubber that was eventually used to pave the new trail.
TN State Parks explained how the trail's construction, which has been in development since 2019, was a joint effort. Officials from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the City of Memphis, Shelby County, and Memphis City Beautiful were all involved in funding this recycling project.
These officials named their initiative the “Tires to Trails” project. Workers from these departments, alongside some 450 volunteers, came together to collect over 24,000 tires that had been illegally dumped in the area around the park to be recycled.
“This is a perfect example of recycling in full circle, collecting dumped material, then changing it into positive use,” David, a leader of the project, said in a statement.
What kind of park is T.O.Fuller State Park
A.It is a popular park with a good tradition.
B.It is the first park welcoming all visitors.
C.It is a park west of the Mississippi river.
D.It is a modern park without biking trails.
Why are dumped tires a dangerous addition to the environment
A.They are ugly to see. B.They produce harmful gases.
C.They are made up of plastic. D.They pollute the underground water.
What does David mean in the last paragraph
A.It is the park's responsibility to recycle.
B.The park is built on dumped materials.
C.The park successfully recycled dumped tires.
D.It is possible to turn everything into useful things.
Which of the following is the best title of the text
A.Areas of Reusing Tires B.Methods of Rebuilding a Trail
C.Tires Transformed into a New Trail D.Officials and People Recycle Tires
C
Body language is an essential part of communication and can be just as important as our spoken language exchanges. Body language can be both conscious or unconscious actions, so it is important to make sure your body is sending the same messages as your words to ensure good communication. These actions can strengthen the verbal (口头的) messages you’re sending or it can lead to mistrust or confusion — signs of poor communication and misunderstanding.
Body language can make interacting with others and expressing yourself much easier, but it can also introduce new challenges. Some nonverbal signs unintentionally communicate parts of ourselves that we don’t want others to know. For example, bad posture or fidgeting (坐立不安) may communicate lack of confidence, something we may not intend for others to know about us. But body language can strengthen our verbal messages and solidify(巩固)what we are telling others. Facing someone with eye contact or taking notes while someone is speaking can communicate genuine interest. Without these signs, teachers may not be able to assess a student’s understanding.
When you’re speaking sincerely, it’s natural for your body language to respond to your words through gestures or facial expressions. We also use gestures in conversations to tell stories or describe objects, often using hand signals to show how big or small something is. These are largely unconscious, naturally occurring forms of body language.
It can be difficult to communicate confidence in your actions when you may not feel it internally. When you display confident body language, such as good posture or eye-contact, even if you’re making a conscious effort, studies have shown that it can lead to feeling more confident. When speaking to others, practice controlling impulses to fidget and planting your feet confidently to increase self-esteem.
28.What would your body language tell if it can’t go with your speech
A.A probable disbelief. B.True meaning behind words.
C.An unclear condition. D.A dull speech.
29.Why does the author give some examples in paragraph 2
A.To show body language can help us all the time.
B.To tell body language can show the true side of us.
C.To explain how challenging it is to read body language.
D.To tell teachers how to assess a student’s understanding.
30.What does the author intend to tell in the last two paragraphs
A.Hand signals are essential ways to make ourselves understood.
B.Naturally occurring forms of body language makes us confident.
C.Proper body language can help us a lot in gaining confidence.
D.When speaking to others, try your best to hide your body language.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Knowing Your Friends with Body Language
B.Understanding Others by Body Language
C.Being Smart in Showing Your Body Language
D.Helping Communicate with Body Language

第二节.读后续写 (满分25分)
73. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Children like to be considered to be brave, but what kind of things can be considered to be brave It is not a question that can be answered by words, but by the real deed. A boy with the name Tom gave us a good example. Tom and John were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day as Tom and John were going home after school, they saw some people fighting on the street corner. Tom said excitedly, “Some people are fighting! Let’s go and have a look!” But John refused. “It’s none of our business. We’d better go home and don’t get close to them. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me.” “You are a coward(胆小鬼), and afraid to go”, said Tom, and off he ran to the spot with some other boys. John had to go home alone and didn’t think about it anymore.
But Tom thought John was a coward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon John and didn’t want to play with him.
John was sad but he wasn’t angry with Tom for his rude behavior, because he had learned that true courage was shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to stick to his thought and go to school and study as usual. However, Tom didn’t invite John to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had his new friends who also thought John was a coward. Every day after school, Tom and his new friends didn’t go home directly but went to bathe in the river nearby and had lots of fun.
