I think fireflies are the most unusual pets. Long ago,in Japan, people kept fireflies as pets. Fireflies are small insects that can glow (发光). This is very different from common pets like cats or dogs. They’re not the typical animals people keep as pets,so they’re really unusual.

Cross-curricular connection

1 Read the article about how to teach parrots to talk and correct the statements.
Parrots are popular pets. They are social and intelligent birds. They have the ability to mimic(模仿) human speech and we can teach them to talk!
Training your parrot
Put your parrot’s cage in a calm and quiet place.
Hold a treat in front of the bird and begin with a simple word like “hello”.
Look at your bird and say “hello” in a bright and positive voice. Repeat the
same word multiple times.
When your parrot starts making a sound like “hello”, give it lots of praise
and a treat. Say the word back to it in an excited and loud voice.
When your parrot can say “hello”, move on to teaching it the next new word!

Teaching your parrot to talk
用欢快且积极的语气
Things to bear in mind
Choose the right time to train your parrot. If the bird looks tired or not
interested, leave it alone.
Keep your training sessions short. When your parrot starts looking away
from you or cleaning its feathers(羽毛), it is time to stop.
Only give your parrot a treat when it makes a sound similar to the word you
are trying to teach.
Be patient. Give your parrot enough time to learn to say a word clearly.
Teaching your parrot takes time. Don’t be disappointed if your parrot doesn’t speak at first. One day, it may surprise you with a bright and breezy(轻松愉快的) “Hello!”
