①For centuries Chinese people have used folding fans to cool themselves and have regarded them as a symbol of culture and wisdom. Among them, the Rongchang folding fan, which is from Chongqing’s Rongchang District, is one of the most famous. In 2008, it was listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
②The history of Rongchang folding fans dates back to the Ming Dynasty. At that time, Rongchang became a centre for handmade fan production because of its high-quality bamboo and skilled workers. Over time, the fans have become well-known for being strong and beautiful.
③Creating a Rongchang folding fan is a highly skilled process.
④Making each fan requires over 70 steps, including cutting and painting. Workers usually spend years learning these skills to make sure the fans meet high standards (标准).
⑤During the process, one of the most important parts is to choose the material. Workers need to use thin but strong bamboo, making fans easy to carry. At the same time, the material makes Rongchang folding fans special.
⑥As dynasties rose and fell, the Rongchang folding fan continually reinvented its cultural role. From being a tool to a cultural symbol, it shows that true craftsmanship not only serves practical needs, but also carries cultural meaning.
⑦In ancient China, many of Rongchang folding fans were hand-painted with traditional Chinese calligraphy (书法) or paintings, turning each one into a piece of art. Poets wrote poems on them, and performers used them in traditional dances and operas.
⑧Though fewer people need hand-held fans nowadays, Rongchang folding fans are popular among collectors and are often given as cultural gifts. Old workers are not only training the next generation but also exploring creative designs to attract more young people. Rongchang folding fans have become a living art form that continues to spread to more people.

In the 1960s, a musical group composed a popular song called Monday, Monday: “Every other day of the week is fine, yeah. But whenever Monday comes, you can find me crying all of the time.” When talking about days of the week, Monday gets little expectation(期待). I asked friends which day of the week they like the least, and 90 percent of my friends chose Monday. Not one person thought of Monday as his or her favourite day. ①
First of all, think of all the good things that happen on Mondays. If you are a sports fan, you may get to watch Monday Night Football in the fall. Moreover, quite a few public holidays are celebrated on Mondays. That means that several times a year, a Monday provides a three-day weekend. And Monday is the best day to do shopping because there aren’t as many people shopping on the first day of the workweek.
② To me, however, there’s something even more important about Mondays. Each Monday stands for a new beginning. For example, last week I got behind on my homework and had to spend the weekend catching up. But as soon as Monday arrived, I had a clean slate. Another week I forgot to do some of my chores, so I had to give up going to a movie with my friends on the weekend. But as soon as Monday arrived, I could start all over again.
③ I also love Mondays because we usually start new lessons at school at the beginning of the week. While last week’s topics may have been boring, Monday can bring a new book to read or maths problems to work out. Besides, I always become full of energy on Mondays after getting enough sleep at weekends.
I’m aware that I am probably not going to make everyone believe that Monday is the best day of the week, but hopefully I can encourage a few people to change. The next time a Monday comes, think about all the good things that could happen and look forward to the day instead of fearing it. ④
There’s no way to avoid Mondays, so join me in making the best of them. Who knows You might even start liking the first day of the workweek.
( ) 53. Why did the song Monday, Monday become popular
A. They enjoyed being warmed up by the song.
B. The song encouraged them to like Mondays.
C. The song expressed how they disliked Mondays.
D. The song always made them cry all of the time.
( ) 54. What does “a clean slate” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. a good rest B. a sudden stop
C. a new lesson D. a fresh start
( ) 55. Where can we best put “But in fact, I think that Monday is really the best day of the week.”
A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④
( ) 56. What is the best title of the passage
A. To find out Mondays’ secrets B. To make the best of Mondays
C. To turn Mondays into holidays D. To improve yourself on Mondays

The sun hung low, brushing gold over the empty area. The air buzzed (喧闹)—not with insects, but with voices, cameras, and the weight of something about to begin.
Roy’s heart beat like a drum. He looked out at the people gathering for the pancake house ground-breaking ceremony (仪式). Behind him stood the company men and the reporters. And under his feet—hidden underground—were the tiny burrows (洞穴) of the owls.
No sign marked them. No fence protected them. They asked nothing, made no sound, yet now heavy machines waited, ready to destroy (破坏) their living area.
He thought of Mullet Fingers, the wild boy who cared about animals more than himself. He thought of brave Beatrice who helped even when it was hard. Roy had tried to stay out of trouble. He liked quiet. But now, staying quiet didn’t feel right.
He stepped up to the microphone (话筒).
“Excuse me,” he said, voice shaking. “Before you dig…you should know the truth.”
The crowd (人群) grew quiet.
“There are owls living here,” Roy said. “They’re small. They’re scared. And if you build here, you’ll destroy their homes.”
Someone in the crowd laughed. A reporter asked, “How do you know that ”
“Because I saw them. I stood right there and watched them. They live here. They belong here. And they matter.”
The manager stepped forward, “This is not your business, kid.”
Roy turned to face him. His fear turned into something else—strength.
“It’s my business. It’s everyone’s business. We can’t just destroy what we don’t see. Progress should not come at the cost of wonder,” he said.
His hands stopped shaking. People in the crowd began whispering. One mother held her child’s hand. A teacher nodded. Even the manager looked uncertain.
Roy didn’t know what would happen next. But he did what he could. He spoke the truth.
Roy used to be scared. But doing the right thing made him stronger.
Sometimes, doing what you can is enough to shift (改变) the wind.
( ) 57.Who did Roy think of before stepping up to the microphone
A.His teacher. B.Mullet Fingers and Beatrice.
C.The manager. D.The newspaper reporters.
( ) 58.Why was Roy speaking to the crowd at the ceremony
A.To raise money for wildlife. B. To protect the owls’ living area.
C.To advertise the pancake house. D. To welcome people from other towns.

A.Extra cost should be paid to protect nature.
B.There’s nothing more important than progress.
C.Nature shouldn’t be destroyed for development.
D.People should cut the cost of creating wonders.
( ) 60.What can we learn from Roy’s story in the passage
A.Silence sometimes speaks louder than actions.
B.Finding out the truth needs patience and wisdom.
C.Knowing yourself helps you make the right choice.
D.Standing up for nature takes courage but it’s worth it.

七、阅读下面短文并回答问题(本大题共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
As time goes by, more and more wild animals are in danger and some even died out. In order to make money, some people kill too many animals and sell their fur in the shopping centre and their meat to restaurants in the world.
Tibetan antelopes usually live in groups. Their wool (羊毛) is warm and fine, so people can use it to make expensive clothes. That’s why so many antelopes are killed. Although people can get the wool without killing the animals, they simply kill them before taking the wool. The number of Tibetan antelopes is dropping year by year.
As human beings continue to develop (发展), animals’ homes are becoming fewer and fewer. A long time ago, thylacines lived in the wild and they were very happy and free. But as humans made the wild land become their own farms, thylacines didn’t have enough food to eat or places to live in. So they started to eat farmers’ animals. Farmers hated thylacines very much and then they killed hundreds of them.
Some animals get endangered or die out also because of the changes of the environment. White-coated weasels live in a forest in Poland. They have white fur in winter. Their white fur is the same colour as snow so other animals have a hard time finding them. But scientists found that between 1997 and 2007, the number of snowy days dropped a lot. Many of the white-coated weasels were eaten by other animals.
96. What do people kill many Tibetan antelopes for
97. Why did farmers hate thylacines very much
98. How does the white fur of white-coated weasels help them keep safe
99. What are the two reasons for some animals getting endangered or dying out
100. What can we students do to protect wild animals in our daily life (自拟一句话回答)

One morning, there was a knock at the door. Mrs Read opened it. There stood a woman with brown hair. It was Mrs Miller. She came to borrow two eggs. She said she wanted to make cakes. Mrs Read gave her two. In the afternoon there was another knock at the door. It was a little boy. “My name is Jack Miller,” he said. “My mother sent you this cake and two eggs.” “Well, thank you, Jack,” said Mrs Read. “Come on in and meet Bob.”
Bob and Jack shared the cake in the garden. And then they played football together. They soon became good friends! Jack said, “I’m glad you live next door.” Bob said, “I must thank your mother for coming to borrow the eggs.” Jack laughed and told Bob, “My mother didn’t need the two eggs, but she wanted to make friends with your mother!” Bob said, “That’s a funny way to make friends, but it’s an easy way. It works!”

Dear chairperson,
My name is Zhang Tao. I would like to join CSAPA.
I am a Grade 8 student from Sunshine Middle School. I like to exercise so I’m strong and healthy. I am also patient and helpful, which I believe are important qualities for taking care of animals. Moreover, I like to do DIY jobs. They make me creative and smart.
I am a member of the Wildlife Club in our school. I love animals very much, especially small ones like cats and dogs. I often help stray animals in my neighborhood by giving them food and water.
By joining CSAPA, I hope to learn more about animal protection and help more animals in need. I think it is meaningful to make the world a better place for small animals.
Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely,
Zhang Tao
