Science and technology are the primary productive forces.
It is a great joy and a matter of pride to see China’s high technology brightly shining from the sky to the ground.
It is widely known that China has a well-developed high-speed railway network (铁路网) in the world. Now, the country is breaking its own speed record with the CR450. The CR450 can travel at a top speed of 453 kilometers an hour. Once put into use, it will take just about 2.5 hours to travel from Beijing to Shanghai, which takes at least 4.5 hours at the moment. Even though it can travel so fast, it can also start braking (刹车) quickly, taking just 1.7 seconds, and its noise level keeps low. It creates a safe and comfortable environment for passengers. With the advantages, the CR450 shows China’s leading role and great power to the world. The AG60E is China’s self-developed lightweight two-seat electric plane. It is 6.9 meters long, 2.6 meters high and 8.6 meters wide. It is mainly designed for pilot training, flight experience, and private travel. It uses an electric power pared with the traditional plane, it doesn’t send out greenhouse gases, and its noise level is much lower. The AG60E electric plane draws the world’s attention, for it is a practice of China’s aviation industry (航空工业) to reduce air pollution. The AG60E is only a starting point. It is expected to become an important force to achieve green and low-carbon development in the field of aviation.
31. How long will it take to travel from Beijing to Shanghai by CR450

32. What is the advantage of the CR450
A. Fast and safe. B. Light and small. C. Warm and bright. D. Quiet and clean.
33. Why does the world pay attention to the AG60E
A. It is self-developed by China. B. It can be used in many fields.
C. It’s environmentally friendly. D. It flies at a high speed.
34. What do the CR450 and the AG60E have in common
A. Their noise level is low.
B. They have been widely used.
C. They can hold many passengers.
D. They depend on traditional fuel.
35. What does the poster want to show us
A. Chinese people’s wish for green travel. B. The ways to cut down pollution in China.

Imagine you’re sitting in front of the television watching a movie. A famous actor plays a role in it. Although you do know the actor, you just can’t speak out his name at this moment.
We use the phrase “on the tip (尖) of my tongue (舌)” when we’re sure we know a word, but can’t remember it at that moment. Scientists often simply call the experience the “tip-of-the-tongue state” or the TOT state for short.
Why does it happen Well, producing language is not a simple process: our brain has to translate abstract ideas (抽象观念) into the words we need. “This normally goes smoothly,” Karin Humphreys of Canada’s McMaster University explained. “But in this case, some problems have appeared in the process. As a result, we can’t recall the words we want.”
TOT states can even happen more than once for the same word. In a 2008 study, Humphreys found that the longer you spend trying to think of a word before being reminded what it is, the more likely you are to have another TOT state when you try to remember that word again later. In a 2015 study, she also found that people are less likely to have another TOT state if they remember the word themselves rather than being told what it is.
Other studies found that people can actually remember the word they want more than 90% of the time. And it just takes minutes to recover the memory from the TOT state.
Humphreys said TOT states often happen when people are tired. Age seems to play a part, too. A study found that TOT states are more common among older people. Young people aged 18 to 24 experience them about once or twice a week, but those aged 80 to 92 experience them twice as often.
36. The writer begins the passage by ________.
A. asking a question B. giving an example
C. making a comparison D. telling his own story
37. The TOT state is the experience that ________.
A. you can’t recall a word you know B. you always forget what you have done
C. you know a word, but cannot write it down D. you have a wrong memory of the past events
38. What did the 2015 study find out about TOT states
A. How to treat TOT states. B. Why people have TOT states.
C. How often people have TOT states. D. How people are less likely to have TOT states again.
39. The underlined word “recover” has the closest meaning to “________”.
A. bring back B. cut off C. talk back D. put off
40. Which of the following may Humphreys agree with
A. You won’t have another TOT state for the same word.
B. Healthy people have TOT states once or twice a month.
C. Tired people experience more problems recalling words.
D. The tip-of-the-tongue experience doesn’t increase with age.
D
Plains wanderers are small, rare birds that live in grasslands. Unlike most birds, female plains wanderers are larger and stronger than males. Females take the lead in protecting their nests and babies from animals like foxes, while males often sit on the eggs to keep them warm. These birds are hard to find because their feathers blend (融合) into the grass, making them look like part of the landscape. Sadly, their numbers have been dropping because people are taking over their grassland homes for farms and cities.
To save them, scientists are using AI. The key is the birds’ calls. Mother wanderers make soft sounds to talk to their chicks and warn about danger. These calls are quiet and easy to miss, but AI can hear them clearly. Scientists put microphones in the grasslands to record sounds all day and night. Then they put these recordings into a computer program. AI learns to tell the wanderers’ calls apart from other noises, like the wind blowing or insects chirping (鸣叫). This helps scientists find where the mother birds are and how many chicks they have.
“AI helps us monitor these birds without troubling them,” says Dr. Lee, who leads the project. “We can find the most important areas for them and work to protect those places.” Once, the AI helped scientists find a hidden nest with three baby birds. Without AI, they might not have found it. Thanks to this technology, there is new hope for these rare birds, showing that AI can be a powerful tool in saving wildlife.
41. How do scientists use AI to find plains wanderers
A. By taking photos of their nests. B. By tracking their flying paths.
C. By counting eggs in the grass. D. By analyzing calls from mother birds.
42. The underlined word “monitor” in the last paragraph probably means “________”.
A. see B. catch C. feed D. follow
43. What can we infer from the sentence “Without AI, they might not have found it.” in the last paragraph
A. AI is the only tool that can find plains wanderers’ nests.
B. It is very difficult to discover plains wanderers’ nests manually.
C. Scientists used to find no nests at all in the grasslands.
D. Mother plains wanderers hide their nests on purpose to avoid AI.
44. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage
A. Male plains wanderers are responsible for warning about danger.
B. The AI can tell the difference between the birds’ calls and other noises.
C Dr. Lee’s project is to teach mother plains wanderers to make louder calls.
D. The feathers of plains wanderers make them stand out in the grass.
45. What is the author’s attitude towards using AI to protect plains wanderers
A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Uninterested. D. Critical.

Dear Henry,
How’s everything going Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about the rules for teens in my school and family.
First, I agree with two rules: At school, we do 20 minutes of exercise daily—it keeps me healthy and energetic for study. At home, not using phones before bed helps me sleep well.
But I dislike some rules: school gives extra weekend homework. I suggest cutting it to let us relax. Also, I can’t go out after 7 p.m. at home; maybe I can go out with my parents sometimes.
Rules help build good habits, but too strict ones limit our freedom.
Yours,
Li Hua
